For the leader; with stringed instruments, "upon the eighth." A psalm of David.1 [For the choirmaster For strings For the octachord Psalm Of David] Yahweh, let your rebuke to me notbe in anger, your punishment not in the heat of wrath.
Do not reprove me in your anger, LORD, nor punish me in your wrath.2 Have pity on me, Yahweh, for I am fading away. Heal me, Yahweh, my bones are shaken,
Have pity on me, LORD, for I am weak; heal me, LORD, for my bones are trembling.3 my spirit is shaken to its very depths. But you, Yahweh . . . how long?
In utter terror is my soul-- and you, LORD, how long...?4 Yahweh, relent and save my life rescue me because of your faithful love,
Turn, LORD, save my life; in your mercy rescue me.5 for in death there is no remembrance of you; who could sing your praises in Sheol?
For who among the dead remembers you? Who praises you in Sheol?6 I am worn out with groaning, every night I drench my pil ow and soak my bed with tears.
I am wearied with sighing; all night long tears drench my bed; my couch is soaked with weeping.7 My eyes waste away with vexation. Arrogance from al my foes!
My eyes are dimmed with sorrow, worn out because of all my foes.8 Away from me, al evil-doers! For Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping,
Away from me, all who do evil! The LORD has heard my weeping.9 Yahweh has heard my pleading. Yahweh wil accept my prayer.
The LORD has heard my prayer; the LORD takes up my plea.10 Let al my enemies be put to confusion, shaken to their depths, let them retreat in sudden confusion.
My foes will be terrified and disgraced; all will fall back in sudden shame.
