NEW AMERICAN BIBLENOVA VULGATA
1 For the leader. On stringed instruments. A maskil of David.1 Magistro chori. Fidibus. Maskil. David.
2 Listen, God, to my prayer; do not hide from my pleading;2 Auribus percipe, Deus, orationem meam
et ne abscondaris a deprecatione mea;
3 hear me and give answer. I rock with grief; I groan3 intende mihi et exaudi me.
Excussus sum in meditatione mea et conturbatus sum
4 at the uproar of the enemy, the clamor of the wicked. They heap trouble upon me, savagely accuse me.4 a voce inimici et a tribulatione peccatoris.
Quoniam devolverunt in me iniquitatem
et in ira molesti erant mihi.
5 My heart pounds within me; death's terrors fall upon me.5 Cor meum torquetur intra me,
et formido mortis cecidit super me.
6 Fear and trembling overwhelm me; shuddering sweeps over me.6 Timor et tremor venerunt super me, et contexit me pavor. -
7 I say, "If only I had wings like a dove that I might fly away and find rest.7 Et dixi: “ Quis dabit mihi pennas sicut columbae,
et volabo et requiescam?
8 Far away I would flee; I would stay in the desert. Selah8 Ecce elongabo fugiens
et manebo in solitudine.
9 I would soon find a shelter from the raging wind and storm."9 Exspectabo eum, qui salvum me faciat
a spiritu procellae et tempestate ”.
10 Lord, check and confuse their scheming. I see violence and strife in the city10 Dissipa, Domine, divide linguas eorum,
quoniam vidi violentiam et contentionem in civitate.
11 making rounds on its walls day and night. Within are mischief and evil;11 Die ac nocte circumeunt eam super muros eius,
12 treachery is there as well; oppression and fraud never leave its streets.12 iniquitas et labor et insidiae in medio eius;
et non defecit de plateis eius fraudulentia et dolus.
13 If an enemy had reviled me, that I could bear; If my foe had viewed me with contempt, from that I could hide.13 Quoniam si inimicus meus maledixisset mihi,
sustinuissem utique;
et si is qui oderat me, super me magnificatus fuisset,
abscondissem me forsitan ab eo.
14 But it was you, my other self, my comrade and friend,14 Tu vero, homo coaequalis meus,
familiaris meus et notus meus,
15 You, whose company I enjoyed, at whose side I walked in procession in the house of God.15 qui simul habuimus dulce consortium:
in domo Dei ambulavimus in concursu.
16 Let death take them by surprise; let them go down alive to Sheol, for evil is in their homes and hearts.16 Veniat mors super illos,
et descendant in infernum viventes,
quoniam nequitiae in habitaculis eorum,
in medio eorum.
17 But I will call upon God, and the LORD will save me.17 Ego autem ad Deum clamabo,
et Dominus salvabit me.
18 At dusk, dawn, and noon I will grieve and complain, and my prayer will be heard.18 Vespere et mane et meridie meditabor et ingemiscam,
et exaudiet vocem meam.
19 God will give me freedom and peace from those who war against me, though there are many who oppose me.19 Redimet in pace animam meam ab his, qui impugnant me,
quoniam in multis sunt adversum me.
20 God, who sits enthroned forever, will hear me and humble them. For they will not mend their ways; they have no fear of God.20 Exaudiet Deus et humiliabit illos,
qui est ante saecula.
Non enim est illis commutatio,
et non timuerunt Deum.
21 They strike out at friends and go back on their promises.21 Extendit manum suam in socios;
contaminavit foedus suum.
22 Softer than butter is their speech, but war is in their hearts. Smoother than oil are their words, but they are unsheathed swords.22 Lene super butyrum est os eius,
pugna autem cor illius:
molliti sunt sermones eius super oleum,
et ipsi sunt gladii destricti. -
23 Cast your care upon the LORD, who will give you support. God will never allow the righteous to stumble.23 Iacta super Dominum curam tuam,
et ipse te enutriet;
non dabit in aeternum fluctuationem iusto.
24 But you, God, will bring them down to the pit of destruction. These bloodthirsty liars will not live half their days, but I put my trust in you.24 Tu vero, Deus, deduces eos in puteum interitus.
Viri sanguinum et dolosi non dimidiabunt dies suos;
ego autem sperabo in te, Domine.
