Psalms 132

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 A song of ascents. LORD, remember David and all his anxious care;	1 [Song of Ascents] Yahweh, remember David and al the hardships he endured,
2 How he swore an oath to the LORD, vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob:	2 the oath he swore to Yahweh, his vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:
3 "I will not enter the house where I live, nor lie on the couch where I sleep;	3 'I wil not enter tent or house, wil not climb into bed,
4 I will give my eyes no sleep, my eyelids no rest,	4 will not al ow myself to sleep, not even to close my eyes,
5 Till I find a home for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob."	5 til I have found a place for Yahweh, a dwel ing for the Mighty One of Jacob!'
6 "We have heard of it in Ephrathah; we have found it in the fields of Jaar.	6 Listen, we heard of it in Ephrathah, we found it at Forest-Fields.
7 Let us enter God's dwelling; let us worship at God's footstool."	7 Let us go into his dwel ing-place, and worship at his footstool.
8 "Arise, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your majestic ark.	8 Go up, Yahweh, to your resting-place, you and the ark of your strength.
9 Your priests will be clothed with justice; your faithful will shout for joy."	9 Your priests are robed in saving justice, your faithful are shouting for joy.
10 For the sake of David your servant, do not reject your anointed.	10 For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed.
11 The LORD swore an oath to David, a pledge never to be broken: "Your own offspring I will set upon your throne.	11 Yahweh has sworn to David, and wil always remain true to his word, 'I promise that I wil set a sonof yours upon your throne.
12 If your sons observe my covenant, the laws I shall teach them, Their sons, in turn, shall sit forever on your throne."	12 If your sons observe my covenant and the instructions I have taught them, their sons too forevermore wil occupy your throne.'
13 Yes, the LORD has chosen Zion, desired it for a dwelling:	13 For Yahweh has chosen Zion, he has desired it as a home.
14 "This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I desire it.	14 'Here shal I rest for evermore, here shal I make my home as I have wished.
15 I will bless Zion with meat; its poor I will fill with bread.	15 'I shal generously bless her produce, give her needy their fil of food,
16 I will clothe its priests with blessing; its faithful shall shout for joy.	16 I shal clothe her priests with salvation, and her faithful wil sing aloud for joy.
17 There I will make a horn sprout for David's line; I will set a lamp for my anointed.	17 'There I shal raise up a line of descendants for David, light a lamp for my anointed;
18 His foes I will clothe with shame, but on him my crown shall gleam."	18 I shal clothe his enemies with shame, while his own crown shall flourish.'
