1 ויבוא ויעבר ביריחו	1 And having entered, he walked through Jericho.
2 והנה איש ושמו זכי מראשי המוכסים והוא עשיר	2 And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. And he was the leader of the tax collectors, and he was wealthy.
3 ויבקש לראות את ישוע מי הוא ולא יכל מפני העם כי שפל קומה היה	3 And he sought to see Jesus, to see who he was. But he was unable to do so, because of the crowd, for he was small in stature.
4 ויקדם וירץ ויעל על שקמה לראותו כי שם הדרך אשר יעבר בה	4 And running ahead, he climbed up a sycamore tree, so that he might see him. For he was to pass near there.
5 ויהי בבאו אל המקום ההוא ויבט ישוע ויראהו ויאמר אליו זכי רד מהר כי צריך אני לשבת היום בביתך	5 And when he had arrived at the place, Jesus looked up and saw him, and he said to him: “Zacchaeus, hurry down. For today, I should lodge in your house.”
6 וימהר וירד ויאספהו בשמחה	6 And hurrying, he came down, and he received him joyfully.
7 וילונו כל הראים לאמר בא ללון בבית איש חוטא	7 And when they all saw this, they murmured, saying that he had turned aside to a sinful man.
8 ויעמד זכי ויאמר אל האדון הנה אדני את מחצית נכסי אני נתן לעניים ואם עשקתי איש אשיב לו ארבעתים	8 But Zacchaeus, standing still, said to the Lord: “Behold, Lord, one half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone in any matter, I will repay him fourfold.”
9 ויאמר אליו ישוע היום היתה תשועה לבית הזה באשר בן אברהם גם הוא	9 Jesus said to him: “Today, salvation has come to this house; because of this, he too is a son of Abraham.
10 כי בא בן האדם לבקש ולהושיע את האבד	10 For the Son of man has come to seek and to save what had been lost.”
11 ויהי הם שמעים את זאת ויסף שאת משל על אשר קרב לירושלים והמה חשבים כי מהרה תגלה מלכות האלהים	11 As they were listening to these things, continuing on, he spoke a parable, because he was nearing Jerusalem, and because they guessed that the kingdom of God might be manifested without delay.
12 על כן אמר איש אחד מן האדירים הלך אל ארץ רחוקה לקחת לו ממלכה ולשוב	12 Therefore, he said: “A certain man of nobility traveled to a far away region, to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
13 ויקרא אל עשרה מעבדיו ויתן להם עשרה מנים ויאמר להם סחרו בהם עד באי	13 And calling his ten servants, he gave them ten pounds, and he said to them: ‘Do business until I return.’
14 ובני עירו שנאים אותו וישלחו מלאכים אחריו לאמר לא נחפץ בזה כי ימלך עלינו	14 But his citizens hated him. And so they sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this one to reign over us.’
15 ויהי אחרי קחתו את הממלכה וישב ויאמר לקרא את העבדים ההם אשר נתן להם את הכסף למען ידע מה הרויח כל אחד במסחרו	15 And it happened that he returned, having received the kingdom. And he ordered the servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called so that he would know how much each one had earned by doing business.
16 ויבא הראשון ויאמר אדני מנה שלך הביא עשרת מנים	16 Now the first approached, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned ten pounds.’
17 ויאמר אליו כן העבד הטוב תחת אשר היית נאמן במעט מזער היה שליט על עשר ערים	17 And he said to him: ‘Well done, good servant. Since you have been faithful in a small matter, you will hold authority over ten cities.’
18 ויבא השני ויאמר אדני מנה שלך עשה חמשת מנים	18 And the second came, saying: ‘Lord, your one pound has earned five pounds.’
19 ויאמר גם לזה אף אתה היה על חמש ערים	19 And he said to him, ‘And so, you shall be over five cities.’
20 ויבא האחר ויאמר הא לך מנה שלך אשר היה אצלי צרור בסודר	20 And another approached, saying: ‘Lord, behold your one pound, which I kept stored in a cloth.
21 מפני יראתי אתך כי אתה איש קשה לקח את אשר לא הנחת וקצר את אשר לא זרעת	21 For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You take up what you did not lay down, and you reap what you did not sow.’
22 ויאמר אליו מפיך אשפטך העבד הרע אתה ידעת כי אני איש קשה לקח את אשר לא הנחתי וקוצר את אשר לא זרעתי	22 He said to him: ‘By your own mouth, do I judge you, O wicked servant. You knew that I am an austere man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow.
23 ולמה לא נתת את כספי לשלחני ואני בבואי הייתי תובע אותו במרבית	23 And so, why did you not give my money to the bank, so that, upon my return, I might have withdrawn it with interest?’
24 ויאמר אל העמדים שם שאו ממנו את המנה ותנוהו אל אשר לו עשרת המנים	24 And he said to the bystanders, ‘Take the pound away from him, and give it to him who has ten pounds.’
25 ויאמרו אליו אדנינו יש לו עשרת מנים	25 And they said to him, ‘Lord, he has ten pounds.’
26 הן אני אמר לכם כי כל איש שיש לו ינתן לו ואשר אין לו יקח ממנו גם את אשר לו	26 So then, I say to you, that to all who have, it shall be given, and he will have in abundance. And from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.
27 אבל את איבי ההם אשר לא חפצו מלכי עליהם הביאו אתם הנה והרגו אתם לפני	27 ‘Yet truly, as for those enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here, and put them to death before me.’ ”
28 ויכל לדבר הדברים האלה ויעבר לפניהם ויעל ירושלים	28 And having said these things, he went ahead, ascending to Jerusalem.
29 ויהי בקרבו אל בית פגי ובית היני בהר הנקרא הר הזיתים וישלח שנים מתלמידיו לאמר	29 And it happened that, when he had drawn near to Bethphage and Bethania, to the mount which is called Olivet, he sent two of his disciples,
30 לכו אל הכפר אשר ממולנו והיה בבואכם שמה תמצאו עיר אסור אשר לא ישב עליו אדם עד עתה התירו אתו והביאו	30 saying: “Go into the town which is opposite you. Upon entering it, you will find the colt of a donkey, tied, on which no man has ever sat. Untie it, and lead it here.
31 וכי ישאל אתכם איש למה תתירהו כה תאמרו אליו יען כי האדון צריך לו	31 And if anyone will ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say this to him: ‘Because the Lord has requested its service.’ ”
32 וילכו השלוחים וימצאו כאשר דבר אליהם	32 And those who were sent went out, and they found the colt standing, just as he told them.
33 ויתירו את העיר ויאמר אליהם בעליו למה זה אתם מתירים את העיר	33 Then, as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?”
34 ויאמרו האדון צריך לו	34 So they said, “Because the Lord has need of it.”
35 ויביאהו אל ישוע וישליכו את בגדיהם על העיר וירכיבו עליו את ישוע	35 And they led it to Jesus. And casting their garments on the colt, they helped Jesus onto it.
36 ובנסעו הציעו את בגדיהם על הדרך	36 Then, as he was traveling, they were laying down their garments along the way.
37 ויקרב אל מורד הר הזיתים ויחלו כל המון התלמידים לשבח את האלהים בשמחה ובקול גדול על כל הגבורות אשר ראו לאמר	37 And when he was now drawing near to the descent of Mount Olivet, the entire crowd of his disciples began to praise God joyfully, with a loud voice, over all the powerful works which they had seen,
38 ברוך המלך הבא בשם יהוה שלום בשמים וכבוד במרומים	38 saying: “Blessed is the king who has arrived in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory on high!”
39 ומקצת פרושים אשר בתוך העם אמרו אליו רבי גער בתלמידיך	39 And certain Pharisees within the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.”
40 ויען ויאמר אני אמר לכם כי אם יחשו אלה תזעקנה האבנים	40 And he said to them, “I tell you, that if these will keep silent, the stones themselves will cry out.”
41 ויהי כאשר קרב וירא את העיר ויבך עליה לאמר	41 And when he drew near, seeing the city, he wept over it, saying:
42 לו ידעת אף את בעוד יומך הזה את דבר שלומך ועתה נעלם מעיניך	42 “If only you had known, indeed even in this your day, which things are for your peace. But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 כי ימים באים עליך ושפכו איביך סוללה סביביך והקיפוך וצרו עליך מכל עבריך	43 For the days will overtake you. And your enemies will encircle you with a valley. And they will surround you and hem you in on every side.
44 וסחבו אותך ואת בניך בקרבך ולא ישאירו בך אבן על אבן עקב כי לא ידעת את עת פקדתך	44 And they will knock you down to the ground, with your sons who are in you. And they will not leave stone upon stone within you, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”
45 ויבא אל המקדש ויחל לגרש משם את המכרים ואת הקונים בו	45 And entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold in it, and those who bought,
46 ויאמר אליהם הן כתוב ביתי בית תפלה הוא ואתם עשתים אותו למערת פריצים	46 saying to them: “It is written: ‘My house is a house of prayer.’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”
47 ויהי מלמד יום יום במקדש והכהנים הגדולים והסופרים וגם ראשי העם מבקשים לאבדו	47 And he was teaching in the temple daily. And the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the leaders of the people were seeking to destroy him.
48 ולא מצאו מה לעשות כי כל העם דבקו אחריו לשמע אתו	48 But they could not find what to do to him. For all the people were listening to him attentively.
