Deuteronomio 25

1 Se nasce lite tra due uomini, e si fa ricorso ai giudici, questi daranno laude di giustizia al giusto, e l'empio condanneranno di empietà.	1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked.
2 E se vedranno, che colui, che ha peccato, sia degno di essere battuto, lo faran distendere per terra, e lo faran battere in loro presenza. La quantità delle battiture sarà secondo la misura del peccato.	2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number.
3 Con questo però, che non oltrepassino il numero di quaranta: affinché non abbia a ritirarsi il tuo fratello lacerato sconciamente sotto i tuoi occhi.	3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.
4 Non metterai la musoliera al bue, che tribbia le tue biade nell’aia.	4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn.
5 Quando due fratelli staranno insieme, e uno di essi sarà morto senza figliuoli, la moglie del defunto non si mariterà a un estraneo: ma la prenderà l’altro fratello, il quale darà discendenza al fratello morto:	5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband's brother unto her.
6 E al primo figliuolo che avrà da lei, darà il nome di quello, affinché il nome di lui non si estingua in Israele.	6 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not put out of Israel.
7 Ma se quegli non vorrà sposar la moglie del fratello, che debb'essere sua in vigor della legge, andrà la donna alla porta della città, e interpellerà i seniori, e dirà: Non vuole il fratello del mio marito far rivivere il nome del suo fratello in Israele, né prendermi in moglie.	7 And if the man like not to take his brother's wife, then let his brother's wife go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband's brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of my husband's brother.
8 E tosto lo faranno citare, e lo interrogheranno. Se risponderà: Non voglio sposarla:	8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand to it, and say, I like not to take her;
9 Si appresserà a lui la donna alla presenza de' seniori, e gli leverà dal piede la scarpa, e gli sputerà in faccia e dirà: Così sia fatto a colui che non vuole mantener la casa di suo fratello.	9 Then shall his brother's wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face, and shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto that man that will not build up his brother's house.
10 E la casa di lui sarà chiamata in Israele la Casa dello scalzato.	10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed.
11 Se due uomini verranno a contesa tra di loro, e l’uno principierà ad attaccare l’altro, e volendo la moglie di questo salvare il marito dalle mani di quello, che è più forte, stenderà la mano per prenderlo in parte, che non si nomina;	11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets:
12 Tu le farai tagliar la mano, e non avrai niente di compassione per lei.	12 Then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her.
13 Non porterai nella sacchetta stadere diverse, una più forte, l’altra meno:	13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small.
14 Non avrai in casa tua il moggio più grande, e il più piccolo:	14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small.
15 Terrai stadera giusta, e vera, e moggio giusto e vero: affinché tu viva lungo tempo sopra la terra, che sarà a te data dal Signore Dio tuo:	15 But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
16 Perocché il Signore Dio tuo ha in abbominazione chi pecca in questo, e odia ogni ingiustizia.	16 For all that do such things, and all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God.
17 Ricordati di quello che fece a te Amalec, quando tu eri in viaggio uscendo dall'Egitto:	17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt;
18 Com'egli si mosse inverso di te, e mise a fil di spada gli ultimi del tuo esercito, che si erano per la stanchezza arrestati, quando tu eri rifinito dalle fatiche, e dalla fame, ed egli non ebbe timore di Dio.	18 How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God.
19 Quando adunque il Signore Dio tuo ti avrà dato requie, e avrà rendute soggette tutte all’intorno le genti del paese ch'ei ti ha promesso, tu farai sì, ch'egli più non si nomini sotto del cielo. Bada di non dimenticartene.	19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.
