1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.	1 Toda a alma esteja sujeita às autoridades superiores, porque não há autoridade que não venha de Deus e as que existem, foram instituídas por Deus.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.	2 Aquele, pois, que resiste à autoridade, resiste à ordenação de Deus. E os que resistem, atraem sobre si próprios a condenação.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:	3 Com efeito, os príncipes não são para temer pelas acções boas, mas pelas más. Queres, pois, não temer a autoridade? Faze o bem, e terás o louvor dela,
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.	4 porque (o príncipe) é ministro de Deus para teu bem. Mas, se fizeres o mal, teme, porque não é debalde que ele traz a espada. Porquanto ele é ministro de Deus vingador, para punir aquele que faz o mal.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.	5 É pois, necessário que lhe estejais sujeitos, não sòmente pelo temor da ira, mas também por motivo de consciência.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.	6 De facto, também por esta causa é que pagarás os tributos, pois são ministros de Deus, quando exercem o seu oficio.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.	7 Pagai, pois, a todos o que lhes é devido: a quem o imposto, o imposto; a quem as taxas, as taxas; a quem o temor, o temor; a quem a honra, a honra.
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.	8 A ninguém devais coisa alguma, a não ser o amor mútuo, porque aquele que ama o próximo, cumpriu a lei.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.	9 Em verdade, (estes mandamentos): — Não cometerás adultério; não matarás; não furtarás; não dirás falso testemunho; não cobiçarás — e qualquer outro mandamento, todos se resumem nesta palavra : amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.	10 A caridade não faz mal ao próximo. Logo, o amor é o complemento da lei.
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.	11 Bem sabeis em que tempo estamos: é já hora de sair do sono. Porquanto agora está mais perto a nossa salvação, que quando abraçámos a fé.
12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.	12 A noite está quase passada e o dia aproxima-se. Deixemos, pois, as obras das trevas, e revistamo-nos das armas da luz.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.	13 Caminhemos, como de dia, honestamente; não em glutonarias e na embriaguez, não em desonestidades e dissoluções, não em contendas e emulações,
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.	14 mas revesti-vos do Senhor Jesus Cristo e não tenhais cuidado da carne em suas concupiscências.
