1 Tizenkét esztendős volt Manassze, amikor uralkodni kezdett, s ötvenöt esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben.	1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
2 Azt cselekedte, ami gonosz az Úr előtt, azoknak a nemzeteknek undokságai szerint, amelyeket kiűzött az Úr Izrael fiai elől.	2 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, according to the abominable practices of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.
3 Ismét felépítette a magaslatokat, amelyeket atyja, Hiszkija leromboltatott, oltárokat emelt a Baáloknak, berkeket csináltatott, s imádta s tisztelte az ég egész seregét.	3 For he rebuilt the high places which his father Hezekiah had broken down, and erected altars to the Baals, and made Asherahs, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served them.
4 Oltárokat építtetett az Úr házában is, pedig arról azt mondta az Úr: »Jeruzsálemben lesz az én nevem mindörökké« –	4 And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD had said, "In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever."
5 az ég egész seregének tiszteletére építtette azokat, az Úr házának mindkét udvarán.	5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
6 Fiait átvitette a tűzön Ennom fiának völgyében, álmokra adott, jóslást űzött, varázslással foglalkozott, varázslókat és bűbájosokat tartott maga mellett, és sok olyasmit tett, ami gonosz az Úr előtt, hogy bosszantsa őt.	6 And he burned his sons as an offering in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and practiced soothsaying and augury and sorcery, and dealt with mediums and with wizards. He did much evil in the sight of the LORD, provoking him to anger.
7 Faragott és öntött képet is helyezett az Isten házába, pedig arról azt ígérte és azt mondta Isten Dávidnak s fiának, Salamonnak: »Ebbe a házba és Jeruzsálembe, amelyet kiválasztottam magamnak Izrael valamennyi törzséből, fogom elhelyezni nevemet mindörökre,	7 And the image of the idol which he had made he set in the house of God, of which God said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put my name for ever;
8 s nem mozdítom el Izrael lábát arról a földről, amelyet atyáiknak adtam, feltéve, hogy gondosan megcselekszik azt, amit Mózes által meghagytam nekik, minden törvényt, szertartást és rendeletet.«	8 and I will no more remove the foot of Israel from the land which I appointed for your fathers, if only they will be careful to do all that I have commanded them, all the law, the statutes, and the ordinances given through Moses."
9 Így csábította el Manassze Júdát és Jeruzsálem lakóit arra, hogy még gonoszabbul cselekedjenek, mint mindazok a nemzetek, amelyeket az Úr kiűzött Izrael fiainak színe elől.	9 Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did more evil than the nations whom the LORD destroyed before the people of Israel.
10 Az Úr szólt is hozzá és népéhez, de nem akarták meghallgatni.	10 The LORD spoke to Manasseh and to his people, but they gave no heed.
11 Ezért aztán rájuk hozta az asszírok királyának hadvezéreit, s azok elfogták Manasszét s láncba-bilincsbe verve elvitték Babilonba.	11 Therefore the LORD brought upon them the commanders of the army of the king of Assyria, who took Manasseh with hooks and bound him with fetters of bronze and brought him to Babylon.
12 Ő azonban szorongatásában az Úrhoz, az ő Istenéhez imádkozott s nagy bűnbánatot tartott atyái Istene előtt.	12 And when he was in distress he entreated the favor of the LORD his God and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers.
13 Esdekelt előtte s állhatatosan könyörgött, úgy, hogy Ő meghallgatta könyörgését s visszavitette Jeruzsálembe, országába. Ekkor Manassze elismerte, hogy az Úr az Isten.	13 He prayed to him, and God received his entreaty and heard his supplication and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD was God.
14 Aztán falat építtetett a Dávid-városon kívül, a Gíhontól nyugatra, a völgyben, a Halkapu bejárójától körös-körül az Ófelig, s azt igen magasra felhúzatta. Majd hadvezéreket állított Júda valamennyi megerősített városába,	14 Afterwards he built an outer wall for the city of David west of Gihon, in the valley, and for the entrance into the Fish Gate, and carried it round Ophel, and raised it to a very great height; he also put commanders of the army in all the fortified cities in Judah.
15 és eltávolította az idegen isteneket és a bálványokat az Úr házából. Az oltárokat pedig, amelyeket az Úr házának hegyén és Jeruzsálemben állíttatott, mind kivetette a városon kívülre.	15 And he took away the foreign gods and the idol from the house of the LORD, and all the altars that he had built on the mountain of the house of the LORD and in Jerusalem, and he threw them outside of the city.
16 Megújította továbbá az Úr oltárát s vágó-, béke- és dicsérő áldozatokat mutatott be rajta, és meghagyta Júdának, hogy az Úrnak, Izrael Istenének szolgáljon.	16 He also restored the altar of the LORD and offered upon it sacrifices of peace offerings and of thanksgiving; and he commanded Judah to serve the LORD the God of Israel.
17 Ám a nép továbbra is a magaslatokon áldozott az Úrnak, az ő Istenének.	17 Nevertheless the people still sacrificed at the high places, but only to the LORD their God.
18 Manassze többi dolgát, könyörgését az ő Istenéhez, meg azoknak a látnokoknak a szavait, akik az Úr, Izrael Istenének nevében szóltak neki, megírták Izrael királyainak dolgai között.	18 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and the words of the seers who spoke to him in the name of the LORD the God of Israel, behold, they are in the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
19 Imádságát és meghallgatását, valamennyi vétkét és bűnét, meg azokat a helyeket, amelyeken magaslatokat építtetett s berkeket és szobrokat készíttetett, mielőtt bűnbánatot tartott, feljegyezték Hózáj beszédeiben.	19 And his prayer, and how God received his entreaty, and all his sin and his faithlessness, and the sites on which he built high places and set up the Asherim and the images, before he humbled himself, behold, they are written in the Chronicles of the Seers.
20 Amikor aztán Manassze aludni tért atyáihoz, eltemették házában s fia, Ámon lett a király helyette.	20 So Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his house; and Amon his son reigned in his stead.
21 Huszonkét esztendős volt Ámon, amikor uralkodni kezdett, s két esztendeig uralkodott Jeruzsálemben.	21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem.
22 Azt cselekedte, ami gonosz az Úr színe előtt, úgy, ahogy atyja, Manassze cselekedett. Valamennyi bálványnak, amelyet Manassze készíttetett, áldozott és szolgált,	22 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD, as Manasseh his father had done. Amon sacrificed to all the images that Manasseh his father had made, and served them.
23 sőt nem is alázta meg magát az Úr színe előtt, mint ahogyan atyja, Manassze megalázta magát, hanem sokkal nagyobb bűnöket követett el.	23 And he did not humble himself before the LORD, as Manasseh his father had humbled himself, but this Amon incurred guilt more and more.
24 Végül szolgái összeesküdtek ellene s megölték házában.	24 And his servants conspired against him and killed him in his house.
25 Erre a föld népe lekaszabolta mindazokat, akik Ámont megölték, és fiát, Joziját tette meg királlyá helyette.	25 But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against King Amon; and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his stead.
