DOUAI-RHEIMSBIBLES DES PEUPLES
And the angel that spoke in me came again: and he waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.1 L’ange qui me parlait revint; il me réveilla comme un homme que l’on tire de son sommeil
And he said to me: What seest thou? And I said: I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, and its lamp upon the top of it: and the seven lights thereof upon it: and seven funnels for the lights that were upon the top thereof.2 et me demanda: “Que vois-tu?” Je répondis: “Je vois un chandelier tout en or, avec à son sommet un réservoir d’huile et sept lampes à bec.”
And two olive trees over it: one upon the right side of the lamp, and the other upon the left side thereof.3 Deux oliviers se trouvaient à côté, l’un à droite de la réserve d’huile et l’autre à sa gauche.
And I answered, and said to the angel that spoke in me, saying: What are these things, my lord?4 Alors je dis à l’ange qui parlait avec moi: “Qu’est-ce que cela signifie?”
And the angel that spoke in me answered, and said to me: Knowest thou not what these things are? And I said: No, my lord.5 Il me répond: “Tu ne le sais donc pas?” Je lui dis: “Non, mon Seigneur.”
And he answered, and spoke to me, saying: This is the word of the Lord to Zorobabel, saying: Not with an army, nor by might, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.6 Il m’explique: 10b “Ces sept lampes sont les yeux de Yahvé qui observent toute la terre.”
Who art thou, O great mountain, before Zorobabel? thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring out the chief stone, and shall give equal grace to the grace thereof.7 4:11 Je demande de nouveau: “Que représentent ces deux oliviers à droite et à gauche du chandelier?”
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:8 4:12 No Text
The hands of Zorobabel have laid the foundations of this house, and his hands shall finish it: and you shall know that the Lord of hosts hath sent me to you.9 4:13 Il me répond: “Tu ne le sais pas?” Je lui dis: “Non, mon Seigneur.”
For who hath despised little days? and they shall rejoice, and shall see the tin plummet in the hand of Zorobabel. These are the seven eyes of the Lord, that run to and fro through the whole earth.10 4:14 Il m’explique: “Ce sont les deux hommes consacrés qui se tiennent devant le Seigneur de toute la terre.” 6b Voici une parole de Yahvé pour Zorobabel: “Ni par l’argent, ni par la force, mais par mon Esprit.
And I answered, and said to him: What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick, and upon the left side thereof?11 4:7 “Que la montagne est haute! Mais devant Zorobabel elle se changera en plaine. C’est lui qui portera la dernière pierre aux cris de ‘Bravo, bravo pour elle!’ ”
And I answered again, and said to him: What are the two olive branches, that are by the two golden beaks, in which are the funnels of gold?12 4:8 Une parole de Yahvé me fut alors adressée:
And he spoke to me, saying: Knowest thou not what these are? And I said: No, my lord.13 4:9 “Les mains de Zorobabel ont posé les fondations de ce Temple; ses mains aussi l’achèveront.
And he said: These are two sons of oil who stand before the Lord of the whole earth.14 4:10 Cela vous a peut-être semblé bien peu de chose le jour où l’on posait la première pierre, mais vous aurez la joie de voir la pierre de couronnement dans les mains de Zorobabel.”
