1 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremias the prophet against the Gentiles,	1 Parole du Seigneur qui fut adressée au prophète Jérémie contre les nations.
2 Against Egypt, against the army of Pharao Nechao king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Charcamis, whom Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon defeated, in the fourth year of Joakim the son of Josias king of Juda.	2 A l'Egypte. Contre l'armée du pharaon Néchao, roi d'Egypte, qui était près du fleuve de l'Euphrate, à Charcamis, et qui fut battue par Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, la quatrième année de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda.
3 Prepare ye the shield and buckler, and go forth to battle.	3 Préparez l'écu et le bouclier, et marchez au combat.
4 Harness the horses, and get up, ye horsemen: stand forth with helmets, furbish the spears, put on coats of mail.	4 Attelez les chevaux, et montez, cavaliers; mettez vos casques, polissez les lances, revêtez-vous de vos cuirasses.
5 What then? I have seen them dismayed, and turning their backs, their valiant ones slain: they fled apace, and they looked not back: terror was round about, saith the Lord.	5 Mais quoi! Je les ai vus effrayés et tournant le dos, leurs héros sont taillés en pièces; ils fuient à la hâte, sans se retourner; la terreur est partout, dit le Seigneur.
6 Let not the swift flee away, nor the strong think to escape: they are overthrown, and fallen down, towards the north by the river Euphrates.	6 Que le plus agile ne fuie pas, et que le robuste n'espère pas être sauvé: vers l'aquilon, sur le bord de l'Euphrate, ils ont été vaincus et renversés.
7 Who is this that cometh up as a flood: and his streams swell like those of rivers ?	7 Quel est celui qui monte comme un fleuve, et dont les flots se gonflent comme ceux des grandes rivières?
8 Egypt riseth up like a hood, and the waves thereof shall be moved as rivers, and he shall say: I will go up and will cover the earth: I will destroy the city, and its inhabitants.	8 L'Egypte monte comme un fleuve et ses vagues s'agitent comme celles des grandes rivières; et elle dit: Je monterai, je couvrirai la terre; je détruirai la ville et ses habitants.
9 Get ye up on horses, and glory in chariots, and let the valiant men come forth, the Ethiopians, and the Libyans that hold the shield, and the Lydians that take, and shoot arrows.	9 Montez à cheval, élancez-vous sur vos chars; que les héros s'avancent, l'Ethiopie et la Libye armées de boucliers, et les Lydiens qui manient et lancent des flèches.
10 For this is the day of the Lord the God of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may revenge himself of his enemies: the sword shall devour, and shall be filled, and shall be drunk with their blood: for there is a sacrifice of the Lord God of hosts in the north country, by the river Euphrates.	10 C'est le jour du Seigneur, du Dieu des armées; c'est le jour de la vengeance, où Il Se vengera de Ses ennemis; le glaive dévorera et se rassasiera, et s'enivrera de leur sang; car c'est la victime du Seigneur, du Dieu des armées, au pays de l'aquilon, sur le bord de l'Euphrate.
11 Go up into Galaad, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain dost thou multiply medicines, there shall be no cure for thee.	11 Monte à Galaad, et prends du baume, vierge, fille de l'Egypte; c'est en vain que tu multiplies les remèdes; il n'y aura pas de guérison pour toi.
12 The nations have heard of thy disgrace, and thy howling hath filled the land: for the strong hath stumbled against the strong, and both are fallen together.	12 Les nations ont appris ta honte, et tes hurlements ont rempli la terre, car le héros s'est heurté contre le héros, et ils sont tombés tous deux ensemble.
13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremias the prophet, how Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon should come and strike the land of Egypt:	13 Parole que le Seigneur adressa au prophète Jérémie, pour prédire que Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, viendrait, et qu'il frapperait le pays d'Egypte:
14 Declare ye to Egypt, and publish it in Magdal, and let it be known in Memphis, and in Taphnis: say ye: Stand up, and prepare thyself: for the sword shall devour all round about thee.	14 Annoncez-le en Egypte, et publiez-le à Magdalo, faites-le retentir à Memphis et à Taphnis; dites: Lève-toi et prépare-toi, car le glaive va dévorer ce qui est autour de toi.
15 Why are thy valiant men come to nothing? they stood not: because the Lord hath overthrown them.	15 Pourquoi ton héros est-il pourri? Il n'est pas resté debout, parce que le Seigneur l'a renversé.
16 He hath multiplied them that fall, and one hath fallen upon another, and they shall say: Arise, and let us return to our own people, and to the land our nativity, from the sword of the dove.	16 Il a multiplié ceux qui tombaient, ils ont été terrassés l'un sur l'autre, et ils ont dit: Allons, retournons vers notre peuple, et au pays de notre naissance, devant le glaive de la colombe.
17 Call ye the name of Pharao king Egypt, a tumult time hath brought.	17 Appelez le pharaon, roi d'Egypte, de ce nom: Le temps a apporté le tumulte.
18 As I live, (saith the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts,) as Thabor is among the mountains, and as Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.	18 Par Ma vie, dit le Roi qui a pour nom le Seigneur des armées, comme le Thabor parmi les montagnes, et comme le Carmel près de la mer, il viendra.
19 Furnish thyself to go into captivity, thou daughter inhabitant of Egypt: for Memphis shall be made desolate, and shall be forsaken and uninhabited.	19 Prépare ce qu'il te faut pour l'exil, habitante fille de l'Egypte; car Memphis deviendra un désert, elle sera abandonnée et inhabitable.
20 Egypt is like a fair and beautiful heifer: there shall come from the north one that shall goad her.	20 L'Egypte est une génisse belle et agréable; celui qui doit l'aiguillonner viendra de l'aquilon.
21 Her hirelings also that lived in the midst of her, like fatted calves are turned back, and are fled away together, and they could not stand, for the day of their slaughter is come upon them, the time of their visitation.	21 Les mercenaires, qui étaient au milieu d'elle comme des veaux engraissés, se sont retournés et ont tous pris la fuite sans pouvoir résister, car le jour de leur massacre était venu, le temps où Dieu devait les visiter.
22 Her voice shall sound like brass, for they shall hasten with an army, and with axes they shall come against her, as hewers of wood.	22 Sa voix retentira comme celle de l'airain; car ils s'élanceront avec une armée, et ils viendront sur elle avec des haches, comme ceux qui abattent des arbres.
23 They have cut down her forest, saith the Lord, which cannot be counted: they are multiplied above locusts, and are without number.	23 Ils ont coupé, dit le Seigneur, sa forêt, dont on ne peut compter les arbres; ils se sont multipliés plus que les sauterelles, et ils sont innombrables.
24 The daughter of Egypt is confounded, and delivered into the hand of the people of the north.	24 La fille de l'Egypte est confuse, et elle a été livrée entre les mains du peuple de l'aquilon.
25 The Lord of hosts the God of Israel hath said: Behold I will visit upon the tumult of Alexandria, and upon Pharao, and upon Egypt, and upon her gods, and upon her kings, and upon Pharao, upon them that trust in him.	25 Le Seigneur des armées, le Dieu d'Israël a dit: Voici que Je vais visiter le tumulte d'Alexandrie, et le pharaon et l'Egypte, ses dieux et ses rois, et le pharaon, et ceux qui ont confiance en lui.
26 And I will deliver them into the hand of them that seek their lives, into the hand of Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants: and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith the Lord.	26 Je les livrerai entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, entre les mains de Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, et entre les mains de ses serviteurs. Et après cela l'Egypte sera habitée comme aux jours d'autrefois, dit le Seigneur.
27 And thou my servant Jacob, fear not and be not thou dismayed, O Israel: for behold I will save thee from afar off, and thy seed out of the land of thy captivity: and Jacob shall return and be at rest, and prosper: and there shall be none to terrify him.	27 Et toi ne crains pas, Mon serviteur Jacob, et ne t'effraye pas, Israël, car Je te sauverai de loin, et Je tirerai ta race du pays où tu es captif; Jacob reviendra et se reposera; il sera prospère, et il n'y aura personne qui l'épouvante.
28 And thou, my servant Jacob, fear not, saith the Lord: because I am with thee, for I will consume all the nations to which I have cast thee out: but thee I will not consume, but I will correct thee in judgment, neither will I spare thee as if thou wert innocent.	28 Et toi ne crains pas, Mon serviteur Jacob, dit le Seigneur, car Je suis avec toi, et Je détruirai toutes les nations parmi lesquelles Je t'ai banni; pour toi, Je ne te détruirai pas, mais Je te châtirai avec équité, sans t'épargner comme si tu étais innocent.
