1 Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.	1 Meglio un tozzo di pan secco in pace, che una casa piena di banchetti e di discordie.
2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.	2 Un servo saggio comanderà ai figli stolti, e dividerà l'eredità tra i fratelli.
3 As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.	3 Come si prova, l'argento col fuoco e l'oro col crogiolo, così il Signore prova i cuori.
4 The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.	4 Il malvagio obbedisce alla lingua iniqua, l'ingannatore dà retta a labbra menzognere.
5 He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.	5 Chi disprezza il povero ne insulta il Creatore, e chi si rallegra dell'altrui rovina non rimarrà impunito.
6 Children's children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.	6 I figlioli dei figli son la corona dei vecchi, e i padri son la gloria dei figli.
7 Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.	7 Non s'addice allo stolto il parlare sentenzioso, nè al principe un labbro menzognero.
8 The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.	8 L'aspettativa d'un dono è gemma carissima, da qualunque lato si volge agisce con prudente intelligenza.
9 He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.	9 Chi cela i falli s'acquista amicizie, chi li dice e li ridice mette discordie tra gli amici.
10 A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.	10 Fa più una correzione all'uomo prudente che cento colpi all'insensato.
11 An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.	11 Il malvagio cerca sempre litigi; ma l'angelo crudele sarà spedito contro di lui.
12 It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.	12 E' meglio imbattersi in un'orsa a cui siano stati rapiti gli orsacchiotti, che incontrarsi con un insensato, il quale confida nella sua follia.
13 He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.	13 Chi rende mah? per il bene non vedrà mai partire da casa sua la sventura.
14 The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.	14 Chi dà la stura alle acque comincia una contesa, avanti di patir dànno tronca la lite.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.	15 Chi assolve il reo e chi condanna l'innocente, tutt'e due sono abbominevoli davanti a Dio.
16 What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.	16 Che giova allo stolto avere ricchezze, se non può comprare la sapienza? Chi fa molto alta la sua casa cerca la rovina, chi ricusa d'imparare cadrà in guai.
17 He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.	17 L'amico vuole bene in ogni tempo, e il fratello si prova nelle afflizioni.
18 A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.	18 Un uomo insensato batterà le mani quando è restato mallevadore per un suo amico.
19 He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.	19 Chi medita discordie ama le risse, e chi alza molto la sua porta cerca la rovina.
20 He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.	20 Chi è perverso di cuore non avrà bene, e chi è doppio di lingua cadrà in guai.
21 A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.	21 Lo stolto è nato per sua ignominia, ma nemmeno il padre ci troverà consolazione.
22 A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.	22 L'animo allegro rende l'età florida; lo spirito malinconico secca le ossa.
23 The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.	23 L'empio riceve di sottomano regali per sovvertire il corso della giustizia.
24 Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.	24 Sulla faccia dell'uomo prudente brilla la sapienza, ma gli occhi dello stolto van fino ai confini del mondo.
25 A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.	25 Il figlio stolto è lo sdegno del padre e il dolore della madre che lo ha generato.
26 It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.	26 Non sta bene danneggiare il giusto, nè percuotere il principe che giudica rettamente.
27 He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.	27 Chi modera le sue parole è dotto e prudente, e l'uomo saggio è di spirito riservato.
28 Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.	28 Anche lo stolto, se tace, sarà stimato sapiente, e intelligente, se terrà chiuse le labbra.
