A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing.1 For the First Sabbath. A Psalm of David. The earth and all its fullness belong to the Lord: the whole world and all that dwells in it.
He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment:2 For he has founded it upon the seas, and he has prepared it upon the rivers.
he hath converted my soul. He hath led me on the paths of justice, for his own name's sake.3 Who will ascend to the mountain of the Lord? And who will stand in his holy place?
For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me.4 The innocent of hands and the clean of heart, who has not received his soul in vain, nor sworn deceitfully to his neighbor.
Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil; and my chalice which inebriateth me, how goodly is it!5 He will receive a blessing from the Lord, and mercy from God, his Saviour.
And thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.6 This is the generation that seeks him, that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.
Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. And the King of Glory shall enter.
Who is this King of Glory? The Lord who is strong and powerful; the Lord powerful in battle.
Lift up your gates, you princes, and be lifted up, eternal gates. And the King of Glory shall enter.
Who is this King of Glory? The Lord of virtue. He himself is the King of Glory.
