1 When the lord brought back the captivity of Sion, we became like men comforted.	1 [Ein Wallfahrtslied Salomos.] Wenn nicht der Herr das Haus baut, müht sich jeder umsonst, der daran baut.Wenn nicht der Herr die Stadt bewacht, wacht der Wächter umsonst.
2 Then was our mouth filled with gladness; and our tongue with joy. Then shall they say among the Gentiles: The Lord hath done great things for them.	2 Es ist umsonst, dass ihr früh aufsteht und euch spät erst niedersetzt, um das Brot der Mühsal zu essen; denn der Herr gibt es den Seinen im Schlaf.
3 The Lord hath done great things for us: we are become joyful.	3 Kinder sind eine Gabe des Herrn, die Frucht des Leibes ist sein Geschenk.
4 Turn again our captivity, O Lord, as a stream in the south.	4 Wie Pfeile in der Hand des Kriegers, so sind Söhne aus den Jahren der Jugend.
5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.	5 Wohl dem Mann, der mit ihnen den Köcher gefüllt hat! Beim Rechtsstreit mit ihren Feinden scheitern sie nicht.
6 Going they went and wept, casting their seeds.
7 But coming they shall come with joyfulness, carrying their sheaves.
