Lettera agli Efesini 4

1 IO adunque, il prigione, vi esorto nel Signore, che camminiate condegnamente alla vocazione, della quale siete stati chiamati;	1 And so, as a prisoner in the Lord, I beg you to walk in a manner worthy of the vocation to which you have been called:
2 con ogni umiltà, e mansuetudine; con pazienza, comportandovi gli uni gli altri in carità;	2 with all humility and meekness, with patience, supporting one another in charity.
3 studiandovi di serbar l’unità dello Spirito per il legame della pace.	3 Be anxious to preserve the unity of the Spirit within the bonds of peace.
4 V’è un corpo unico, e un unico Spirito; come ancora voi siete stati chiamati in un’unica speranza della vostra vocazione.	4 One body and one Spirit: to this you have been called by the one hope of your calling:
5 V’è un unico Signore, una fede, un battesimo;	5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 un Dio unico, e Padre di tutti, il quale è sopra tutte le cose, e fra tutte le cose, e in tutti voi.	6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
7 Ma a ciascun di noi è stata data la grazia, secondo la misura del dono di Cristo.	7 Yet to each one of us there has been given grace according to the measure allotted by Christ.
8 Per la qual cosa dice: Essendo salito in alto, egli ha menata in cattività moltitudine di prigioni, e ha dati de’ doni agli uomini.	8 Because of this, he says: “Ascending on high, he took captivity itself captive; he gave gifts to men.”
9 Or quello: È salito, che cosa è altro, se non che prima ancora era disceso nelle parti più basse della terra?	9 Now that he has ascended, what is left except for him also to descended, first to the lower parts of the earth?
10 Colui che è disceso è quello stesso, il quale ancora è salito di sopra a tutti i cieli, acciocchè empia tutte le cose.	10 He who descended is the same one who also ascended above all the heavens, so that he might fulfill everything.
11 Ed egli stesso ha dati gli uni apostoli, e gli altri profeti, e gli altri evangelisti, e gli altri pastori, e dottori;	11 And the same one granted that some would be Apostles, and some Prophets, yet truly others evangelists, and others pastors and teachers,
12 per lo perfetto adunamento de’ santi, per l’opera del ministerio, per l’edificazione del corpo di Cristo;	12 for the sake of the perfection of the saints, by the work of the ministry, in the edification of the body of Christ,
13 finchè ci scontriamo tutti nell’unità della fede, e della conoscenza del Figliuol di Dio, in uomo compiuto, alla misura della statura perfetta del corpo di Cristo.	13 until we all meet in the unity of faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as a perfect man, in the measure of the age of the fullness of Christ.
14 Acciocchè non siam più bambini, fiottando e trasportati da ogni vento di dottrina, per la baratteria degli uomini, per la loro astuzia all’artificio, ed insidie dell’inganno.	14 So may we then no longer be little children, disturbed and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, and by the craftiness which deceives unto error.
15 Ma che, seguitando verità in carità, cresciamo in ogni cosa in colui che è il capo, cioè in Cristo.	15 Instead, acting according to truth in charity, we should increase in everything, in him who is the head, Christ himself.
16 Dal quale tutto il corpo ben composto, e commesso insieme per tutte le giunture di cui è fornito, secondo la virtù che è nella misura di ciascun membro, prende il suo accrescimento alla propria edificazione in carità	16 For in him, the whole body is joined closely together, by every underlying joint, through the function allotted to each part, bringing improvement to the body, toward its edification in charity.
17 QUESTO dico adunque, e protesto nel Signore, che voi non camminiate più come camminano ancora gli altri Gentili, nella vanità della lor mente;	17 And so, I say this, and I testify in the Lord: that from now on you should walk, not as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 intenebrati nell’intelletto, alieni dalla vita di Dio, per l’ignoranza che è in loro, per l’induramento del cuor loro.	18 having their intellect obscured, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is within them, because of the blindness of their hearts.
19 I quali, essendo divenuti insensibili ad ogni dolore, si sono abbandonati alla dissoluzione, da operare ogni immondizia, con insaziabile cupidità.	19 Such as these, despairing, have given themselves over to sexual immorality, carrying out every impurity with rapacity.
20 Ma voi non avete così imparato Cristo;	20 But this is not what you have learned in Christ.
21 se pur l’avete udito, e siete stati in lui ammaestrati, secondo che la verità è in Gesù:	21 For certainly, you have listened to him, and you have been instructed in him, according to the truth that is in Jesus:
22 di spogliare, quant’è alla primiera condotta, l’uomo vecchio, il qual si corrompe nelle concupiscenze della seduzione;	22 to set aside your earlier behavior, the former man, who was corrupted, by means of desire, unto error,
23 e d’essere rinnovati per lo Spirito della vostra mente;	23 and so be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 e d’esser vestiti dell’uomo nuovo, creato, secondo Iddio, in giustizia, e santità di verità.	24 and so put on the new man, who, in accord with God, is created in justice and in the holiness of truth.
25 Perciò, deposta la menzogna, parlate in verità ciascuno col suo prossimo; poichè noi siam membra gli uni degli altri.	25 Because of this, setting aside lying, speak the truth, each one with his neighbor. For we are all part of one another.
26 Adiratevi, e non peccate; il sole non tramonti sopra il vostro cruccio.	26 “Be angry, but do not be willing to sin.” Do not let the sun set over your anger.
27 E non date luogo al diavolo.	27 Provide no place for the devil.
28 Chi rubava non rubi più; anzi più tosto fatichi, facendo qualche buona opera con le proprie mani, acciocchè abbia di che far parte a colui che ha bisogno.	28 Whoever was stealing, let him now not steal, but rather let him labor, working with his hands, doing what is good, so that he may have something to distribute to those who suffer need.
29 Niuna parola malvagia esca dalla vostra bocca; ma, se ve n’è alcuna buona ad edificazione, secondo il bisogno; acciocchè conferisca grazia agli ascoltanti.	29 Let no evil words proceed from your mouth, but only what is good, toward the edification of faith, so as to bestow grace upon those who listen.
30 E non contristate lo Spirito Santo di Dio, col quale siete stati suggellati per il giorno della redenzione.	30 And do not be willing to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed, unto the day of redemption.
31 Sia tolta via da voi ogni amaritudine, ed ira, e cruccio, e grido, e maldicenza, con ogni malizia.	31 Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and outcry and blasphemy be taken away from you, along with all malice.
32 Ma siate gli uni inverso gli altri benigni, misericordiosi, perdonandovi gli uni gli altri, siccome ancora Iddio vi ha perdonati in Cristo	32 And be kind and merciful to one another, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you in Christ.
