1 LA parola che il Signore pronunziò contro a Babilonia, contro al paese de’ Caldei, per lo profeta Geremia.	1 The word that the Lord has spoken about Babylon and about the land of the Chaldeans, by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.
2 Annunziate fra le genti, e bandite, ed alzate la bandiera; banditelo, nol celate; dite: Babilonia è stata presa, Bel è confuso, Merodac è rotto in pezzi; le sue immagini sono confuse, i suoi idoli son rotti in pezzi.	2 “Announce it among the Gentiles, and make it known. Lift up a sign. Proclaim it and do not conceal it. Say this: ‘Babylon has been captured. Bel has been confounded. Merodach has been conquered. Their graven things have been confounded. Their idols have not survived.’
3 Perciocchè una nazione è salita contro a lei dal Settentrione, la quale metterà il paese di quella in desolazione, e non vi sarà più alcuno che abiti in lei; uomini, e bestie si son dileguati, se ne sono andati via.	3 For a nation has ascended against her from the north, which will set her land in desolation. And there will be no one who may live within it, from man even to beast. For they have been removed and have gone away.
4 In que’ giorni, ed in quel tempo, dice il Signore, i figliuoli d’Israele, ed i figliuoli di Giuda verranno, tutti insieme, e andranno piangendo, e ricercheranno il Signore Iddio loro.	4 In those days and in that time, says the Lord, the sons of Israel will advance, they and the sons of Judah together. Weeping as they walk, they will hurry on, and they will seek the Lord their God.
5 Domanderanno di Sion; per la via avranno volte là le facce; diranno: Venite, e congiungetevi al Signore per un patto eterno, che giammai non si dimentichi.	5 They will ask the way to Zion; their faces will be set toward this place. They will arrive and will be joined to the Lord by an everlasting covenant, which nothing will wipe away into oblivion.
6 Il mio popolo è stato a guisa di pecore smarrite; i lor pastori le hanno fatte andare errando, le han traviate su per li monti; sono andate di monte in colle, hanno dimenticata la lor mandra.	6 My people have become a lost flock. Their shepherds have led them astray and have caused them to wander in the mountains. They have crossed from mountain to hill. They have forgotten their resting place.
7 Tutti coloro che le hanno trovate le han divorate; e i lor nemici hanno detto: Noi non saremo colpevoli di misfatto; conciossiachè abbiano peccato contro al Signore, abitacolo di giustizia, e contro al Signore, speranza de’ lor padri.	7 All whom they have found, they have devoured. And their enemies have said: ‘We have not sinned. For it is they who have sinned against the Lord, the beauty of justice, and against the Lord, the hope of their fathers.’
8 Fuggite del mezzo di Babilonia, ed uscite del paese de’ Caldei; e siate come becchi dinanzi alla greggia	8 Withdraw from the midst of Babylon, and go forth from the land of the Chaldeans. And be like young goats before the flock.
9 Perciocchè, ecco, io eccito, e fo levare contro a Babilonia una raunanza di grandi nazioni del paese di Settentrione; ed esse ordineranno la battaglia contro a lei, e sarà presa; le lor saette saranno come d’un valente, ed intendente saettatore che non ritorna a vuoto.	9 For behold, I am raising up, and I will lead against Babylon, a congregation of great nations from the land of the north. And they will be prepared against her, and from there she will be taken. Their arrows, like those of a strong man, a killer, will not return empty.
10 E la Caldea sarà in preda; tutti quelli che la prederanno saranno saziati, dice il Signore.	10 And Chaldea will become a prey. All who lay waste to her will be filled, says the Lord.
11 Perciocchè voi vi siete rallegrati; perciocchè voi avete trionfato, rubando la mia eredità; perciocchè voi avete ruzzato a guisa di vitella che pastura fra l’erbetta tenera, e avete annitrito come destrieri.	11 For you exult and you speak great things, plundering my inheritance. For you have spread out like calves upon the grass, and you have bellowed like bulls.
12 La madre vostra è grandemente confusa; quella che vi ha partoriti è svergognata; ecco, è l’ultima delle nazioni, un deserto, un luogo arido, ed una solitudine.	12 Your mother has been exceedingly shamed, and she who bore you has become equal to the dust. Behold, she will be the last among the nations, a desert, impassable and dry.
13 Per l’indegnazione del Signore, ella non sarà più abitata, anzi sarà tutta desolata; chiunque passerà presso di Babilonia sarà attonito, e zufolerà, per tutte le sue piaghe.	13 By the wrath of the Lord, it will not be inhabited. Instead, it will be entirely desolate. Every one who passes by Babylon will be stupefied and will hiss over all her wounds.
14 Ordinate l’assalto contro a Babilonia d’ogni intorno, o voi arcieri tutti; saettate contro a lei, non risparmiate le saette; perciocchè ella ha peccato contro al Signore.	14 Prepare yourselves against Babylon, on every side, all you who bend the bow. Make war against her! You should not spare the arrows, for she has sinned against the Lord.
15 Date di gran gridi contro a lei d’ogn’intorno; ella porge le mani; i suoi fondamenti caggiono, e le sue mura son diroccate; perciocchè questa è la vendetta del Signore; prendete vendetta di lei; fatele siccome ella ha fatto.	15 Cry out against her! For where she has put forth a hand, her foundations have fallen, her walls have been destroyed. For it is the vengeance of the Lord. Take vengeance against her! Just as she has done, do so to her.
16 Sterminate di Babilonia il seminatore, e colui che tratta la falce nel tempo della mietitura; ritorni ciascuno al suo popolo, e fuggasene ciascuno al suo paese, d’innanzi alla spada dello sforzatore.	16 Destroy the founder from Babylon, and the one who holds the sickle in the time of harvest. Before the face of the sword of the dove, each one will turn back to his people, and every one will flee to his own land.
17 Israele è stato una pecorella smarrita, i leoni l’hanno cacciata; il primo che la divorò fu il re d’Assiria; ma quest’ultimo, cioè, Nebucadnesar, re di Babilonia, le ha tritate le ossa.	17 Israel is a scattered flock. The lions have driven him away. First, the king of Assyria devoured him. And last, this Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, has taken away his bones.
18 Perciò, il Signor degli eserciti, l’Iddio d’Israele, ha detto così: Ecco, io farò punizione del re di Babilonia, e del suo paese, siccome ho fatta punizione del re di Assiria.	18 Because of this, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will visit the king of Babylon and his land, just as I have visited the king of Assyria.
19 E ricondurrò Israele alla sua mandra, ed egli pasturerà in Carmel, ed in Basan; e l’anima sua sarà saziata nel monte di Efraim, e di Galaad.	19 And I will lead back Israel to his habitation. And he will pasture on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul will be satiated at mount Ephraim and Gilead.
20 In quei giorni, e in quel tempo, dice il Signore, si cercherà l’iniquità d’Israele, ma non sarà più; e i peccati di Giuda, ma non si ritroveranno più: perciocchè io perdonerò a quelli che avrò lasciati di resto	20 In those days and at that time, says the Lord, the iniquity of Israel will be sought, and there will be none. And the sin of Judah will be sought, and none will be found. For I will be forgiving to them, whom I will leave behind.
21 Sali contro al paese di Merataim, e contro agli abitanti di Pecod; deserta, e distruggi ogni cosa dietro a loro, dice il Signore; e fa’ secondo tutto ciò che io ti ho comandato.	21 Ascend against the land of the rulers, and visit against its inhabitants! Scatter and destroy whatever has been left behind them, says the Lord, and act according to all that I have instructed you.
22 Vi è un grido di guerra nel paese, ed una gran rotta.	22 A voice of war in the land, and great destruction!
23 Come è stato mozzato, e rotto il martello di tutta la terra? come è stata Babilonia ridotta in desolazione fra le genti?	23 How has the mallet of the entire earth been broken and crushed? How has Babylon been turned into a desert among the nations?
24 Io ti ho incapestrata, o Babilonia, e tu sei stata presa, senza che tu l’abbia saputo; tu sei stata trovata, ed anche colta; perciocchè tu hai combattuto col Signore.	24 I have ensnared you, and you have been captured, O Babylon, and you did not realize it. You have been discovered and seized, because you provoked the Lord.
25 Il Signore ha aperta la sua armeria, ed ha tratte fuori l’armi della sua indegnazione; perciocchè questa è un’opera, che il Signore Iddio degli eserciti vuole eseguire nel paese dei Caldei.	25 The Lord has opened his storehouse, and he has brought forth the instruments of his wrath. For there is work for the Lord, the God of hosts, within the land of the Chaldeans.
26 Venite contro a lei dall’estremità del mondo, aprite le sue aie; calcatela come delle manelle di biade, e distruggetela; non restine alcun rimanente.	26 Advance against her from the furthest regions! Open, so that those who will trample her may go out! Take stones from the road, and gather them into piles, and destroy her. And let there be nothing left of her.
27 Ammazzate con la spada tutti i suoi giovenchi, scendano al macello; guai a loro! perciocchè il giorno loro è venuto, il tempo della lor visitazione.	27 Scatter all her strong ones. Let them descend to the slaughter. Woe to them! For their day has arrived, the time of their visitation.
28 Vi è una voce di genti che fuggono, e scampano dal paese di Babilonia, per annunziare in Sion la vendetta del Signore Iddio nostro, la vendetta del suo Tempio.	28 It is the voice of those who are fleeing and of those who have escaped from the land of Babylon: to announce in Zion the revenge of the Lord our God, the revenge of his Temple.
29 Radunate a grida gran numero di genti contro a Babilonia; voi tutti che tirate dell’arco, accampatevi contro a lei d’ogn’intorno; niuno ne scampi; rendetele la retribuzione delle sue opere; secondo tutto ciò ch’ella ha fatto, fatele altresì; perciocchè ella è superbita contro al Signore, contro al Santo d’Israele.	29 Announce it to the many in Babylon, to all who bend the bow. Stand together against her all around, and let no one escape. Repay her according to her work. In accord with all that she has done, do to her. For she has raised herself up against the Lord, against the Holy One of Israel.
30 Perciò i suoi giovani caderanno nelle sue piazze, e tutti i suoi guerrieri saranno distrutti in quel giorno, dice il Signore.	30 For this reason, her young men will fall in her streets. And all her men of war will be silenced, in that day, says the Lord.
31 Eccomiti, o superba, dice il Signore Iddio degli eserciti; perciocchè il tuo giorno è venuto, il tempo che io ti visiterò.	31 Behold, I am against you, O proud one, says the Lord, the God of hosts. For your day has arrived, the time of your visitation.
32 E la superbia traboccherà, e caderà, e non vi sarà alcuno che la rilevi; ed io accenderò un fuoco nelle sue città, che consumerà tutti i suoi luoghi circonvicini	32 And the proud one will fall and be ruined. And there will be no one who may lift him up. And I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it will devour everything around him.”
33 Così ha detto il Signor degli eserciti: I figluioli d’Israele, e i figliuoli di Giuda, sono tutti quanti oppressati; tutti quelli che li hanno menati prigioni li ritengono, hanno ricusato di lasciarli andare.	33 Thus says the Lord of hosts: “The sons of Israel and the sons of Judah have endured calumny together. All who have seized them are holding them and refusing to release them.
34 Il lor Redentore è forte, il suo Nome è: Il Signor degli eserciti; egli di certo dibatterà la lor querela, per commuovere la terra, e per mettere in turbamento gli abitatori di Babilonia.	34 Their redeemer is strong. The Lord of hosts is his name. He will defend their case in judgment, so that he may terrify the land and disturb the inhabitants of Babylon.
35 La spada soprasta a’ Caldei, dice il Signore, ed agli abitatori di Babilonia, ed a’ suoi principi, ed a’ suoi savi.	35 A sword is for the Chaldeans, says the Lord, and for the inhabitants of Babylon, and for her leaders, and for her wise ones.
36 La spada soprasta a’ bugiardi indovini d’essa, e ne smanieranno; la spada soprasta agli uomini prodi di essa, e ne saranno spaventati.	36 A sword is for her diviners, who will be fooled. A sword is for her strong ones, who will be afraid.
37 La spada, soprasta a’ suoi cavalli, ed a’ suoi carri, ed a tutto il popolo mischiato, che è in mezzo di essa, e diverranno come donne; la spada soprasta a’ suoi tesori, e saranno predati.	37 A sword is for their horses, and for their chariots, and for all the common people who are in her midst. And they will be like women. A sword is for her storehouses, and they will be plundered.
38 Disseccamento soprasta alle sue acque, e saranno asciutte, perciocchè ella è un paese di sculture, ed essi sono insensati intorno agl’idoli.	38 A drought is over her waters, and they will be dried up. For it is a land of graven images, and they glory in portents.
39 Perciò, le fiere, de’ deserti avranno in essa la loro stanza, insieme co’ gufi; e l’ulule vi dimoreranno; e non sarà giammai più abitata; e giammai, per niuna età, non vi si dimorerà più.	39 Because of this, dragons will live there with the fig fauns, and ostriches will live in it. And it will no longer be inhabited, even in perpetuity, nor will it be raised up, even from generation to generation.
40 Siccome Iddio sovvertì Sodoma, Gomorra, e le città lor vicine, dice il Signore; così non abiterà più quivi uomo alcuno, e niun figliuol d’uomo vi dimorerà più.	40 Just as the Lord overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and their neighboring towns, says the Lord, no man will live there, and a son of man will not tend it.
41 Ecco, un popolo viene di Settentrione, ed una gran nazione; e re possenti si muovono dal fondo della terra.	41 Behold, a people arrives from the north, and a great nation. And many kings will rise up from the ends of the earth.
42 Impugneranno l’arco e la lancia; sono crudeli, senza pietà; la voce loro romoreggerà come il mare, e cavalcheranno sopra cavalli; saranno in ordine, a guisa d’uomini prodi, per la battaglia, contro a te, o figliuola di Babilonia.	42 They will take up the bow and the shield. They are cruel and merciless. Their voice will sound out, like the sea, and they will ride upon horses, like a man prepared for battle against you, O daughter of Babylon.
43 Il re di Babilonia ne ha udito il grido, e le sue mani ne son divenute fiacche; angoscia l’ha occupato; dolore, come di donna che partorisce.	43 The king of Babylon has heard the report about them, and his hands have been weakened. Anguish has overtaken him, like the pains of a woman giving birth.
44 Ecco, colui salirà a guisa di leone, più violentemente che la piena del Giordano, contro all’abitacolo forte; perciocchè io lo farò correre sopra essa; e chi è valent’uomo scelto? ed io lo rassegnerò contro ad essa. Perciocchè, chi è pari a me? e chi mi sfiderà? e chi è il pastore che possa star fermo davanti a me?	44 Behold, he will ascend like a lion from the arrogance of the Jordan to the robust beauty. For I will cause him to rush upon her suddenly. And who will be the elect one, whom I may appoint over her? For who is like me? And who can endure me? And who is that pastor who can withstand my countenance?”
45 Perciò, ascoltate il consiglio del Signore, ch’egli ha preso contro a Babilonia; e i pensieri ch’egli ha divisati contro al paese de’ Caldei: Se i più piccoli della greggia non li trascinano; se la lor mandra non è deserta insieme con loro.	45 Because of this, listen to the counsel of the Lord, which he has conceived in his mind against Babylon, and to his thoughts, which he has devised against the land of the Chaldeans: “Certainly the little ones of the flocks will pull them down, unless their habitation will have been destroyed with them.
46 La terra ha tremato per lo romore della presa di Babilonia, e il grido se n’è udito fra le genti	46 At the voice of the captivity of Babylon, the earth has been moved, and an outcry has been heard among the nations.”
