Proverbi 5

1 Figliuol mio, attendi alla mia sapienza, Inchina il tuo orecchio al mio intendimento;	1 My son, to my wisdom be attentive, to my knowledge incline your ear,
2 Acciocchè tu osservi gli avvedimenti, E che le tue labbra conservino la scienza.	2 That discretion may watch over you, and understanding may guard you.
3 Perciocchè le labbra della donna straniera stillano favi di miele. E il suo palato è più dolce che olio;	3 The lips of an adulteress drip with honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil;
4 Ma il fine di essa è amaro come assenzio, Acuto come una spada a due tagli.	4 But in the end she is as bitter as wormwood, as sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 I suoi piedi scendono alla morte; I suoi passi fanno capo all’inferno.	5 Her feet go down to death, to the nether world her steps attain;
6 I suoi sentieri sono vaganti, senza che essa sappia ove va, Perchè non considera attentamente la via della vita.	6 Lest you see before you the road to life, her paths will ramble, you know not where.
7 Ora dunque, figliuoli, ascoltatemi, E non vi dipartite da’ detti della mia bocca.	7 So now, O children, listen to me, go not astray from the words of my mouth.
8 Allontana la tua via da essa, E non accostarti all’uscio della sua casa;	8 Keep your way far from her, approach not the door of her house,
9 Che talora tu non dia il tuo onore agli stranieri, E gli anni tuoi al crudele;	9 Lest you give your honor to others, and your years to a merciless one;
10 Che talora i forestieri non si sazino delle tue facoltà; E che le tue fatiche non vadano nella casa dello strano;	10 Lest strangers have their fill of your wealth, your hard-won earnings go to an alien's house;
11 E che tu non gema alla fine, Quando la tua carne ed il tuo corpo saranno consumati;	11 And you groan in the end, when your flesh and your body are consumed;
12 E non dica: Come ebbi io in odio l’ammaestramento? E come rigettò il mio cuore la correzione?	12 And you say, "Oh, why did I hate instruction, and my heart spurn reproof!
13 E come non ascoltai la voce di quelli che mi ammaestravano, E non inchinai il mio orecchio a quelli che m’insegnavano?	13 Why did I not listen to the voice of my teachers, nor to my instructors incline my ear!
14 Quasi che sono stato in ogni male, In mezzo della raunanza e della congregazione	14 I have all but come to utter ruin, condemned by the public assembly!"
15 Bevi delle acque della tua cisterna, E de’ ruscelli di mezzo della tua fonte.	15 Drink water from your own cistern, running water from your own well.
16 Spandansi le tue fonti fuori, Ed i ruscelli delle tue acque per le piazze.	16 How may your water sources be dispersed abroad, streams of water in the streets?
17 Sieno quelle acque a te solo, E a niuno strano teco.	17 Let your fountain be yours alone, not one shared with strangers;
18 Sia la tua fonte benedetta; E rallegrati della moglie della tua giovanezza.	18 And have joy of the wife of your youth,
19 Siati ella una cerva amorosa, ed una cavriuola graziosa; Inebbrinti le sue mammelle in ogni tempo; Sii del continuo invaghito del suo amore.	19 your lovely hind, your graceful doe. Her love will invigorate you always, through her love you will flourish continually, (6:22) When you lie down she will watch over you, and when you wake, she will share your concerns; wherever you turn, she will guide you.
20 E perchè, figliuol mio, t’invaghiresti della straniera, Ed abbracceresti il seno della forestiera?	20 Why then, my son, should you go astray for another's wife and accept the embraces of an adulteress?
21 Conciossiachè le vie dell’uomo sieno davanti agli occhi del Signore, E ch’egli consideri tutti i suoi sentieri.	21 For each man's ways are plain to the LORD'S sight; all their paths he surveys;
22 Le iniquità dell’empio lo prenderanno, Ed egli sarà ritenuto con le funi del suo peccato.	22 By his own iniquities the wicked man will be caught, in the meshes of his own sin he will be held fast;
23 Egli morrà per mancamento di correzione; E andrà errando per la molta sua pazzia	23 He will die from lack of discipline, through the greatness of his folly he will be lost.
