1 Los jefes de familia del clan de los descendientes de Galaad –hijo de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, uno de los clanes de los descendientes de José– se presentaron delante de Moisés y de los principales jefes de familia de Israel	1 Then the leaders of the families of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, from the stock of the sons of Joseph, approached and spoke to Moses before the leaders of Israel, and they said:
2 y les dijeron: El Señor mandó a Moisés que repartiera el país entre los israelitas mediante un sorteo, y Moisés también recibió del Señor la orden de entregar a sus hijas la herencia de nuestro hermano Selofjad.	2 “The Lord has instructed you, our ruler, so that you would divide the land by lot to the sons of Israel, and so that you would give to the daughters of Zelophehad, our brother, the possession owed to their father.
3 Ahora bien, si ellas se casan con un miembro de otra tribu de Israel, su parte será sustraída de la herencia de la tribu a la que van a pertenecer. De esa manera, disminuirá la herencia que nos ha tocado en suerte.	3 But if men of another tribe receive them as wives, their possession will follow them, and having been transferred to another tribe, there will be a reduction in our inheritance.
4 Y cuando los israelitas celebren el año del jubileo, la herencia de ellas se sumará a la de la otra tribu y será sustraída del patrimonio de nuestra tribu.	4 And so it may be that, when the Jubilee of remission, that is, the fiftieth year, has arrived, the distribution by lots shall be confounded, and the possession of the one shall be transferred to others.”
5 Entonces Moisés, por orden del Señor, dio estas instrucciones a los israelitas: La tribu de los descendientes de José tiene razón.	5 Moses answered the sons of Israel, and, at the instruction of the Lord, he said: “The tribe of the sons of Joseph has spoken correctly.
6 Esto es lo que el Señor ha ordenado respecto de las hijas de Selofjad: Ellas pueden casarse con quien les parezca mejor, con tal que lo hagan dentro de un clan perteneciente a la tribu de su padre.	6 And so, this is the law which has been promulgated by the Lord about the daughters of Zelophehad: Let them marry whomever they may wish, but only among the men of their own tribe,
7 La parte hereditaria de los israelitas no pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada israelita deberá retener la herencia de su tribu paterna.	7 lest the possession of the sons of Israel become commingled, from tribe to tribe. For all men shall take wives from their own tribe and kinship;
8 Por lo tanto, toda joven que posea una herencia en alguna tribu de los israelitas, se casará dentro de un clan de su tribu paterna, de manera que los israelitas conserven cada uno la herencia de sus padres.	8 and all women shall take husbands from their same tribe, so that the inheritance may remain within the families,
9 Así, ninguna herencia pasará de una tribu a otra, sino que cada una de las tribus de los israelitas retendrá su parte.	9 and so that the tribes may not be mingled together, but may remain such as they were separated by the Lord.”
10 Las hijas de Selofjad procedieron como el Señor se lo había ordenado a Moisés.	10 And the daughters of Zelophehad acted according to what was ordered.
11 Majlá, Tirsá, Joglá, Milcá y Noá, hijas de Selofjad, se casaron con hijos de sus tíos paternos.	11 And Mahlah, and Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noa were wed to the sons of their paternal uncle,
12 Y como lo hicieron dentro de los clanes de los descendientes de Manasés, la herencia de ellas quedó en la tribu del clan de su padre.	12 from the family of Manasseh, who was a son of Joseph. And the possession which had been distributed to them remained in the tribe and family of their father.
13 Estos son los mandamientos y las leyes que el Señor dio a los israelitas por medio de Moisés, en las estepas de Moab, junto al Jordán, a la altura de Jericó.	13 These are the commandments and judgments which the Lord ordered by the hand of Moses to the sons of Israel, in the plains of Moab, above the Jordan, opposite Jericho.
