| 2 Davide consultou o Senhor, dizendo: Marcharei eu e desbaratarei estes Filisteus? O Senhor disse a Davide: Vai, que desbaratarás os Filisteus e salvarás Ceila. | 2 David consulted Yahweh, 'Shal I go and fight these Philistines?' Yahweh replied to David, 'Go andfight the Philistines and save Keilah.' |
| 3 Os homens, que estavam com Davide, disseram-lhe: Se, estando nós aqui na Judeia, temos medo, quanto mais se formos a Ceila contra os esquadrões dos Filisteus? | 3 But David's men said to him, 'We are already afraid here in Judah; how much more, then, if we go toKeilah to fight the Philistine troops!' |
| 4 Segunda vez Davide consultou o Senhor, o qual, respondendo, lhe disse: Levanta-te e vai a Ceila, porque eu entregarei os Filisteus nas tuas mãos. | 4 So David consulted Yahweh again and Yahweh replied, 'Be on your way; go down to Keilah, since Ishall give the Philistines into your power.' |
| 5 Foi, então, Davide com a sua gente a Ceila, e combateu contra os Filisteus, levou-Ihes os seus gados e fez neles grande mortandade, salvando assim os habitantes da Ceila. | 5 So David and his men went to Keilah and fought the Philistines and carried off their cattle and inflicteda great defeat on them. Thus David saved the inhabitants of Keilah. |
| 6 Quando Abiatar, filho de Aquimelec, fugiu para Davide em Ceila, levou consigo o éfode. | 6 When Abiathar son of Ahimelech took refuge with David, he went down to Keilah with the ephod in hishand. |
| 7 Foi noticiado a Saul que Davide tinha ido para Ceila, e Saul disse: Deus o entregou nas minhas mãos, porque entrou numa cidade que tem portas e fechaduras. | 7 When word was brought to Saul that David had gone to Keilah he said, 'God has delivered him intomy power: he has trapped himself by going into a town with gates and bars.' |
| 8 Saul mandou a todo o povo que marchasse a Ceila, para o combate, e que sitiasse Davide e os seus. | 8 Saul called all the people to arms, to go down to Keilah and besiege David and his men. |
| 9 Davide, tendo sido avisado de que Saul lhe preparava secretamente este mal, disse ao sacerdote Abiatar: Toma o éfode (para consultar o Senhor). | 9 David, however, was aware that Saul was plotting evil against him, and said to Abiathar the priest,'Bring the ephod.' |
| 10 Davide disse: Senhor Deus de Israel, o teu servo soube que Saul se preparava para vir a Ceila, para destruir a cidade por minha causa. | 10 David said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, your servant has heard that Saul is preparing to come to Keilahand destroy the town because of me. |
| 11 Os homens de Ceila entregar-me-ão nas suas mãos? Saul virá, como o teu servo ouviu dizer? Senhor Deus de Israel, dá a conhecer isto ao teu servo. O Senhor disse: Há-de vir. | 11 Wil Saul come down as your servant has heard? Yahweh, God of Israel, I beg you, let your servantknow.' Yahweh replied, 'He wil come down.' |
| 12 Davide disse: Porventura os homens de Ceila me entregarão a mim e a gente que está comigo nas mãos de Saul? O Senhor disse: Hão-de entregar. | 12 David then went on to ask, 'Wil the notables of Keilah hand me and my men over to Saul?' Yahwehreplied, 'They wil hand you over.' |
| 13 Davide, pois, levantou-se com a sua gente, (que era em número de) cerca de seiscentos homens, e, tendo partido de Ceila, erravam incertos por aqui e por ali. Foi anunciado a Saul que Davide tinha fugido de Ceila e se tinha posto a salvo. Por tal razão, Saul dissimulou não querer sair. | 13 At this, David made off with his men, about six hundred in number; they left Keilah and went wherethey could. When Saul was told that David had escaped from Keilah, he abandoned the expedition. |
| 14 Davide estava no deserto, em lugares muito seguros, e habitou no monte do deserto de Zif, monte coberto de arvoredo; Saul todavia procurava-o todos os dias, mas Deus não o entregou nas suas mãos. | 14 David stayed in the desert, in the strongholds; he stayed in the mountains, in the desert of Ziph; Saulkept looking for him day after day, but God did not deliver him into his power. |
| 15 Davide soube que Saul tinha saído em busca da sua vida. Davide estava no deserto de Zif (escondido) no bosque. | 15 David was aware that Saul had mounted an expedition to take his life. David was then at Horesh inthe desert of Ziph. |
| 16 Jónatas, filho de Saul, levantou-se e foi ter com Davide ao bosque, confortou-o muito em Deus e disse-lhe | 16 Jonathan son of Saul set off and went to David at Horesh and encouraged him in the name of God. |
| 17 Não temas, porque não te há-de encontrar a mão de Saul, meu pai, e tu reinarás sobre Israel, e eu serei o segundo depois de ti; até mesmo Saul, meu pai, sabe isto. | 17 'Do not be afraid,' he said, 'for my father Saul's hand wil not reach you. You are to reign over Israel,and I shall be second to you. Saul my father is himself aware of this.' |
| 18 Ambos, pois, fizeram aliança diante do Senhor. Davide ficou no bosque, e Jónatas voltou para sua casa. | 18 And the two made a pact before Yahweh. David stayed at Horesh and Jonathan went home. |
| 19 Entretanto os de Zif foram ter com Saul a Gabaa, dizendo: Tu não sabes que Davide está escondido entre nós, nos lugares mais seguros dos bosques, sobre a colina de Aquila, que está à direita do deserto? | 19 Some men from Ziph then went up to Saul at Gibeah and said, 'Look, David is hiding among us inthe strongholds at Horesh, on the Hil of Hachilah to the south of the wastelands. |
| 20 Agora, pois, visto que o teu coração desejou achá-lo, vem e por nós fica o entregá-lo nas mãos do rei. | 20 Now whenever you wish to go down, my lord king, do so; we shal make it our task to hand him overto the king.' |
| 21 Saul disse: Abençoados sejais do Senhor, porque vos condoestes da minha sorte. | 21 Saul replied, 'May you be blessed by Yahweh for sympathising with me. |
| 22 Ide, vos rogo, fazei todas as diligências, buscai com o maior cuidado, procurai saber o lugar onde ele possa estar, ou quem o terá visto aí, porque, segundo me disseram, ele é muito astuto. | 22 Go and make doubly sure, find out exactly what place he frequents, for I have been told that he isvery cunning. |
| 23 Examinai todos os esconderijos, onde ele se oculta, e voltai a mim com notícias seguras, a fim de eu ir convosco. Se ele estiver no país, descobri-lo-ei entre todos os milhares de Judá. | 23 Take careful note of al the hiding places where he lurks, and come back to me when you are certain.I shal then come with you and, if he is in the country, I shall track him down through every clan in Judah!' |
| 24 Eles, partindo, foram a Zif antes de Saul, mas Davide e os seus homens estavam no deserto de Maon, na planície à direita de Jesimon. | 24 Setting off they went to Ziph ahead of Saul. Meanwhile, David and his men were in the desert ofMaon, in the plain to the south of the wastelands. |
| 25 Foi, pois, Saul e toda a sua gente em busca dele. Isto foi noticiado a Davide, que imediatamente se retirou para o rochedo, ficando no deserto de Maon. Saul, tendo sabido isto, entrou pelo deserto de Maon no alcance de Davide. | 25 When Saul and his men set out in search, David was told and went down to the gorge runningthrough the desert of Maon. |
| 26 Saul costeava o monte por uma parte, Davide e os seus homens costeavam o monte pela outra parte; Davide apressava-se para poder escapar às mãos de Saul, porque Saul e os seus tinham feito como que um cerco em volta de Davide e da sua gente, para os prender. | 26 Saul and his men proceeded along one side of the mountain, David and his men along the other.David was hurrying to escape from Saul, while Saul and his men were trying to cross over to David and hismen's side, to capture them, |
| 27 Nessa altura chegou um mensageiro a Saul, dizendo: Apressa-te e vem, porque os Filisteus invadiram o país. | 27 when a messenger came to Saul and said, 'Come at once, the Philistines have invaded the country.' |
| 28 Então Saul voltou-se, deixando de perseguir Davide, e foi ao encontro dos Filisteus; por isto foi dado àquele lugar o nome de Rochedo da Separação. | 28 So Saul broke off his pursuit of David and went to oppose the Philistines. That is why the place iscal ed the Gorge of Separations. |
