| 1 O meu coração exulta no Senhor, e a minha força foi exaltada pelo meu Deus; a minha boca abriu-se para responder aos meus inimigos, porque me alegrei na salvação que recebi de ti. | 1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. |
| 2 Não há quem seja santo como o Senhor, porque não há outro (Deus) fora de ti, não há quem seja forte como o nosso Deus. | 2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. |
| 3 Não queirais multiplicar palavras altivas, vangloriando-vos; afaste-se da vossa boca a linguagem arrogante, porque o Senhor é o Deus das ciências, e as acções (do homem) não subsistem. | 3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed. |
| 4 O arco dos fortes quebrou-se, e os fracos foram revestidos de força. | 4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. |
| 5 Os que, antes, estavam cheios de bens, assalariaram-se para terem pão; os famintos foram saciados; até a estéril teve sete filhos, e a que tinha muitos, perdeu a força (de os ter). | 5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. |
| 6 O Senhor é quem tira a vida e a dá, leva à habitação dos mortos e tira dela. | 6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. |
| 7 O Senhor é quem empobrece e enriquece, quem humilha e exalta. | 7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. |
| 8 Levanta o pobre do pó, e do esterco eleva o indigente, para que se sente com os príncipes, e ocupe um trono de glória. Porque do Senhor são as colunas da terra, sobre elas pôs o mundo. | 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them. |
| 9 Ele guardará os pés dos seus santos, e os impios perecerão nas trevas; porque o homem não vencerá pela sua robustez, | 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. |
| 10 Tremerão diante do Senhor os seus inimigos, e ele trovejará sobre eles dos céus; o Senhor julgará as extremidades da terra, e dará o império ao seu rei, e exaltará a cabeça do seu ungido. | 10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed. |
| 11 Depois disto, Elcana retirou-se para sua casa em Rama, e o menino servia na presença do Senhor, sob a direcção do sacerdote Heli. | 11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest. |
| 12 Ora os filhos de Heli eram filhos de Belial (pela sua impiedade), não conheciam o Senhor, | 12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD. |
| 13 nem as obrigações de sacerdotes para com o povo. Quando alguém imolava uma vítima, vinha o servo do sacerdote, enquanto se coziam as carnes, com um garfo de três dentes na mão, | 13 And the priests' custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; |
| 14 e metia-o no caldeirão, ou na caldeira, ou na panela, ou na marmita, e, tudo o que o garfo trazia, tomava-o para o sacerdote; assim faziam a todos os Israelitas que iam a Silo. | 14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither. |
| 15 Mesmo antes que queimassem a gordura, ia o servo do sacerdote e dizia ao que imolava: Dá-me carne, a fim de a cozer para o sacerdote, porque eu não receberei de ti carne cozida, mas crua. | 15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw. |
| 16 O imolante dizia-lhe: Queime-se hoje primeiro a gordura, como é costume, e depois toma para ti quanto quiseres. Ele respondia, dizendo: Não; hás-de dar-ma agora, senão tirar-te-ei à força. | 16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force. |
| 17 Era pois muito grande o pecado destes jovens diante do Senhor, porque retraiam os homens do sacrifício do Senhor. | 17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD. |
| 18 Entretanto o menino Samuel servia diante do Senhor revestido de um éfode de linho. | 18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod. |
| 19 Sua mãe fazia-lhe uma pequena túnica, que lhe levava, de ano a ano, quando ia com seu marido oferecer o sacrifício anual. | 19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice. |
| 20 Heli abençoou Elcana e sua mulher dizendo: O Senhor te dê sucessão desta mulher, em recompensa da prenda que ela ofereceu ao Senhor. E eles voltaram para sua casa. | 20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home. |
| 21 O Senhor visitou Ana, e ela concebeu e deu à luz três filhos e duas filhas. O menino Samuel ia crescendo diante do Senhor. | 21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD. |
| 22 Heli era muito velho, e soube tudo o que seus filhos faziam a todos os de Israel, e que dormiam com as mulheres que vigiavam a porta do tabernáculo. | 22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. |
| 23 (Em vez de os castigar com severidade) disse-lhes (sòmente): Por que fazeis estas coisas péssimas, que eu ouço de todo o povo? | 23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people. |
| 24 Não procedais assim, meus filhos, porque não é boa a fama, que eu ouço. Estais a fazer pecar o povo do Senhor. | 24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress. |
| 25 Se um homem pecar contra outro, está no meio Deus, que pode aplacar o ofendido; mas, se um homem pecar contra o Senhor quem intercederá por ele? Mas eles não ouviram a voz de seu pai, porque o Senhor queria faze-los morrer. | 25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them. |
| 26 Entretanto o menino Samuel crescia, e era agradável tanto ao Senhor como aos homens. | 26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men. |
| 27 Um homem de Deus foi ter com Heli e disse-lhe: Eis o que disse o Senhor: Porventura não me revelei eu visivelmente à casa de teu pai, quando eles estavam no Egipto na casa de Faraó? | 27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house? |
| 28 Eu o escolhi entre todas de as tribos de Israel para meu sacerdote, para subir ao meu altar, para me queimar incenso, e para trazer o éfode diante de mim. De todos os sacrifícios de combustão dos filhos do Israel dei parte à casa de teu pai. | 28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel? |
| 29 Por que calcastes vós aos pés as minhas vítimas e os meus dons, que eu mandei que fossem oferecidos no templo? Por que honraste tu mais os teus filhos do que a mim, comendo com eles as primícias de todos os sacrifícios de Israel, meu povo? | 29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people? |
| 30 Portanto o Senhor Deus de Israel diz: Eu disse e repeti que a tua casa e a casa de teu pai serviria para sempre (no sumo sacerdócio) diante da minha face. Mas agora o Senhor diz: Longe de mim tal coisa; antes, glorificarei a quem me glorificar, e desprezarei a quem me desprezar. | 30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. |
| 31 Chegam-se os dias, em que eu cortarei o teu braço e o braço da casa de teu pai, de tal modo que não haja nenhum velho em tua casa. | 31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house. |
| 32 No meio de todas as prosperidades de Israel, verás o teu émulo no templo, e não haverá velho algum em tua casa. | 32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever. |
| 33 Todavia não tirarei de todo do meu altar os teus descendentes, de modo que os teus olhos se escureçam e a tua alma se consuma (de dor na pessoa dos teus descendentes), mas todos os de tua casa morrerão, ao chegarem à idade varonil. | 33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age. |
| 34 Servirá para ti de sinal o que acontecerá aos teus dois filhos, Ofni e Finéias: Ambos morrerão no mesmo dia. | 34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them. |
| 35 Suscitarei para mim um sacerdote fiel, que procederá segundo o meu coração e a minha alma, edificar-lhe-ei uma casa fiel, e ele andará sempre diante do meu ungido. | 35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever. |
| 36 Então acontecerá que todo aquele que restar da tua casa, virá prostrar-se diante dele, para ter uma moeda de prata e uma torta de pão, e dirá: Rogo-te que me admitas a alguma função sacerdotal, a fim de que eu tenha um bocado de pão para comer. | 36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread. |
