| 1 O quinto anjo tocou a trombeta, e vi uma estrela caída do céu sobre a terra. Foi-lhe dada a chave do poço do abismo. | 1 Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky to the earth. It was given the key for the passage to the abyss. |
| 2 Ela abriu o poço do abismo; e subiu um fumo do poço, como fumo de uma grande fornalha, e escureceram-se o sol e o ar com o fumo do poço. | 2 It opened the passage to the abyss, and smoke came up out of the passage like smoke from a huge furnace. The sun and the air were darkened by the smoke from the passage. |
| 3 Do fumo saíram gafanhotos para a terra, e foi-lhes dado um poder (de fazer mal aos homens), como o poder que têm os escorpiões da terra. | 3 Locusts came out of the smoke onto the land, and they were given the same power as scorpions of the earth. |
| 4 E foi-lhes ordenado que não fizessem dano á erva da terra, nem a verdura alguma, nem a árvore alguma, mas sòmente aos homens que não têm o selo de Deus sobre as suas frontes. | 4 They were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any plant or any tree, but only those people who did not have the seal of God on their foreheads. |
| 5 Foi-lhes concedido, não que os matassem, mas que os atormentassem, durante cinco meses. O tormento que causam é como o tormento do escorpião, quando fere um homem. | 5 They were not allowed to kill them but only to torment them for five months; the torment they inflicted was like that of a scorpion when it stings a person. |
| 6 Naqueles dias, os homens buscarão a morte e não a encontrarão; desejarão morrer e a morte fugirá deles. | 6 During that time these people will seek death but will not find it, and they will long to die but death will escape them. |
| 7 Os gafanhotos eram parecidos a cavalos aparelhados para a batalha; sobre as suas cabeças tinham uma espécie de coroas semelhantes ao ouro, e os seus rostos eram como rostos de homens; | 7 The appearance of the locusts was like that of horses ready for battle. On their heads they wore what looked like crowns of gold; their faces were like human faces, |
| 8 tinham os cabelos como os cabelos das mulheres, e os seus dentes eram como os dentes dos leões; | 8 and they had hair like women's hair. Their teeth were like lions' teeth, |
| 9 tinham um tórax como uma couraça de ferro, e o ruído das suas asas era como o ruído de carros de muitos cavalos que correm ao combate. | 9 and they had chests like iron breastplates. The sound of their wings was like the sound of many horse-drawn chariots racing into battle. |
| 10 Têm caudas semelhantes às dos escorpiões, e aguilhões nas suas caudas, em que está o poder de fazer mal aos homens durante cinco meses; | 10 They had tails like scorpions, with stingers; with their tails they had power to harm people for five months. |
| 11 têm sobre si como rei o anjo do abismo, chamado em hebreu Abadon e em grego Apolion. | 11 They had as their king the angel of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon and in Greek Apollyon. |
| 12 O primeiro ai já passou, e eis que vêm ainda dois ais depois destas coisas. | 12 The first woe has passed, but there are two more to come. |
| 13 O sexto anjo tocou a trombeta, e ouvi uma voz que saía dos quatro cantos do altar de ouro, que está diante da face de Deus, | 13 Then the sixth angel blew his trumpet, and I heard a voice coming from the [four] horns of the gold altar before God, |
| 14 a qual dizia ao sexto anjo, que tinha a trombeta: "Solta os quatro anjos que estão atados sobre o grande rio Eufrates." | 14 telling the sixth angel who held the trumpet, "Release the four angels who are bound at the banks of the great river Euphrates." |
| 15 Então foram desatados os quatro anjos que estavam preparados para a hora, dia, mês e ano, a fim de matarem a terça parte dos homens. | 15 So the four angels were released, who were prepared for this hour, day, month, and year to kill a third of the human race. |
| 16 O número dos de cavalaria era de duas miríades de miríades: ouvi dizer o seu número. | 16 The number of cavalry troops was two hundred million; I heard their number. |
| 17 Eis como vi na visão os cavalos e os que estavam montados neles: (estes) tinham couraças de cor de fogo, de jacinto e de enxofre. As cabeças dos cavalos são como cabeças de leões, e da sua boca sai fogo, fumo e enxofre, | 17 Now in my vision this is how I saw the horses and their riders. They wore red, blue, and yellow breastplates, and the horses' heads were like heads of lions, and out of their mouths came fire, smoke, and sulfur. |
| 18 Por estas três pragas, isto é, pelo fogo, pelo fumo e pelo enxofre, que saíam da sua boca, foi morta a terça parte dos homens. | 18 By these three plagues of fire, smoke, and sulfur that came out of their mouths a third of the human race was killed. |
| 19 O poder dos cavalos está na sua boca e nas suas caudas; com efeito, as suas caudas assemelham-se a serpentes, têm cabeças, e é com elas que fazem mal. | 19 For the power of the horses is in their mouths and in their tails; for their tails are like snakes, with heads that inflict harm. |
| 20 Os outros homens, que não foram mortos por estas pragas, não fizeram penitência das obras das suas mãos: continuaram a adorar os demônios e os ídolos de ouro, de prata, de bronze, de pedra e de pau, que não podem ver, nem ouvir, nem andar. | 20 The rest of the human race, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, to give up the worship of demons and idols made from gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot see or hear or walk. |
| 21 Não fizeram penitência dos seus homicídios, nem dos seus malefícios, nem da sua fornicação, nem dos seus furtos. | 21 Nor did they repent of their murders, their magic potions, their unchastity, or their robberies. |
