| 6 Se pretendemos ter comunhão com ele e andamos nas trevas (do pecado), mentimos e não praticamos a verdade. | 6 If we say, "We have fellowship with him," while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. |
| 7 Porém, se andamos na luz (da verdade e da santidade), como ele mesmo também está na luz, temos comunhão recíproca, e o sangue de Jesus Cristo, seu Filho, nos purifica de todo o pecado. | 7 But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin. |

| 9 Porém se confessamos (com humildade e arrependimento) os nossos pecados, (Deus) é fiel e justo para no-Ios perdoar e para nos purificar de toda a iniquidade. | 9 If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from every wrongdoing. |
| 10 Se pretendemos não ter pecado, fazemo-lo mentiroso, e a sua palavra não está em nós. | 10 If we say, "We have not sinned," we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. |
