| 1 Quanto, porém, ao tempo e ao momento (desta segunda vinda de Jesus Cristo) não tendes necessidade, irmãos, que vos escrevamos, | 1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you |
| 2 porque sabeis muito bem que o dia do Senhor virá como um ladrão durante a noite. | 2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night. |
| 3 Quando (os ímpios) disserem: "Paz e segurança" então lhes sobrevirá uma destruição repentina, como as dores a uma mulher grávida, e não escaparão. | 3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape. |
| 4 Mas vós, irmãos, não estais nas trevas, de modo que aquele dia vos surpreenda como um ladrão, | 4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief. |
| 5 porque todos sois filhos da luz e filhos do dia. Não somos filhos da noite nem das trevas. | 5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness, |
| 6 Não durmamos, pois, como os outros, mas vigiemos e sejamos sóbrios. | 6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober. |
| 7 Os que dormem, dormem de noite; e os que se embriagam, embriagam-se de noite. | 7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk, |
| 8 Mas nós, que somos (filhos) do dia (isto é da luz da fé), sejamos sóbrios, estando revestidos da couraça da fé e da caridade, e (tendo) por elmo a esperança da salvação, | 8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet. |
| 9 pois Deus não nos destinou para a ira, mas para alcançar a salvação, por Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, | 9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, |
| 10 que morreu por nós, afim de que, ou vigiemos ou durmamos, vivamos juntamente com ele. | 10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him. |
| 11 Pelo que, consolai-vos mutuamente e edificai-vos uns aos outros, como já fazeis. | 11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already. |
| 12 Nós vos suplicamos, irmãos, que tenhais consideração com aqueles que trabalham entre vós, que vos governam no Senhor e vos admoestam. | 12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you. |
| 13 Tende com eles uma caridade particular, por causa das funções que desempenham. Vivei em paz entre vós. | 13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves. |
| 14 Pedimo-vos também, irmãos, que corrijais os que não observam a boa ordem, conforteis os pusilânimes, suporteis os fracos, sejais pacientes com todos. | 14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone. |
| 15 Vede que nenhum retribua a outro mal por mal, mas procurai sempre fazer bem entre vós e para com todos. | 15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone. |
| 16 Estai sempre alegres; | 16 Always be joyful; |
| 17 orai sem cessar; | 17 pray constantly; |
| 18 por tudo dai graças (a Deus), porque esta é a vontade de Deus, em Jesus Cristo, em relação a todos vós. | 18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus. |
| 19 Não extingais o Espírito (Santo); | 19 Do not stifle the Spirit |
| 20 não desprezeis as profecias; | 20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt; |
| 21 examinai tudo e abraçai o que for bom; | 21 test everything and hold on to what is good |
| 22 guardai-vos de toda a espécie de mal. | 22 and shun every form of evil. |
| 23 O Deus de paz, em pessoa, vos santifique em tudo, a fim de que todo o vosso ser, o espírito, a alma e o corpo, se conservem sem culpa para a vinda de Nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo. | 23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 24 Fiel é aquele que vos chamou, o qual fará isso. | 24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out. |
| 25 Irmãos, orai por nós. | 25 Pray for us, my brothers. |
| 26 Saudai todos os irmãos com ósculo santo. | 26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss. |
| 27 Eu vos conjuro pelo Senhor que esta carta seja lida a todos os irmãos. | 27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers. |
