| 1 Os Gálatas insensatos, quem vos fascinou (para não obedecerdes à verdade) vós, ante cujos olhos (pela minha viva pregação) foi já representado Jesus Cristo crucificado? | 1 O senseless Galatians, who has so fascinated you that you would not obey the truth, even though Jesus Christ has been presented before your eyes, crucified among you? |
| 2 Só quero saber isto de vós: recebestes o Espírito pelas obras da lei ou pela submissão à fé? | 2 I wish to know only this from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? |
| 3 Sois tão insensatos que, tendo começado pelo Espírito, acabeis agora pela carne ? | 3 Are you so foolish that, though you began with the Spirit, you would now end with the flesh? |
| 4 Tendes sofrido tanto (por Cristo) em vão! Se é que todavia foi em vão! | 4 Have you been suffering so much without a reason? If so, then it is in vain. |
| 5 Aquele, pois, que vos dá o seu Espírito e que opera milagres entre vós, fá-lo porventura pelas obras da lei ou pela submissão à fé? | 5 Therefore, does he who distributes the Spirit to you, and who works miracles among you, act by the works of the law, or by the hearing of the faith? |
| 6 Foi o caso de Abraão: Creu em Deus, e isto lhe foi tido em conta para a justiça (Gn. 15, 6). | 6 It is just as it was written: “Abraham believed God, and it was reputed to him unto justice.” |
| 7 Reconhecei, pois, que os que são da fé, são (os verdadeiros) filhos de Abraão. | 7 Therefore, know that those who are of faith, these are the sons of Abraham. |
| 8 Mas a Escritura, antevendo que Deus justificaria os gentios pela fé, deu antecipadamente a Abraão a boa nova: Em ti serão benditas todas as gentes (Gn. 18, 18). | 8 Thus Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, foretold to Abraham: “All nations shall be blessed in you.” |
| 9 Aqueles, pois, que são da fé, serão benditos com o fiel Abraão, | 9 And so, those who are of faith shall be blessed with faithful Abraham. |
| 10 porque todos os que são pelas obras da lei (procurando nela a sua justificação), estão debaixo da maldição, pois está escrito: Maldito todo o que não observar todas as coisas que estão escritas no livro da lei (Dt. 27, 26). | 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it has been written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all the things that have been written in the book of the Law, so as to do them.” |
| 11 Ora é manifesto que pela lei ninguém é justificado diante de Deus, porque, evidentemente, o justo vive da fé (Hc. 2, 4). | 11 And, since in the law no one is justified with God, this is manifest: “For the just man lives by faith.” |
| 12 Porém a lei não procede da fé, mas o que observar estes preceitos, terá nele a vida (Lv. 18, 5). | 12 But the law is not of faith; instead, “he who does these things shall live by them.” |
| 13 Cristo remiu-nos da lei, feito (ele mesmo) maldição por nós, porque está escrito: Maldito todo aquele que está pendurado no lenho (D l. 21,23); | 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, since he became a curse for us. For it is written: “Cursed is anyone who hangs from a tree.” |
| 14 isto, para que a bênção de Abraão fosse comunicada aos gentios em Jesus Cristo, a fim de que recebêssemos por meio da fé o Espírito prometido. | 14 This was so that the blessing of Abraham might reach the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, in order that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. |
| 15 Irmãos (falo como homem), um testamento, embora seja de um homem, estando confirmado, ninguém o anula, nem lhe acrescenta (coisa alguma). | 15 Brothers (I speak according to man), if a man’s testament has been confirmed, no one would reject it or add to it. |
| 16 Ora as promessas foram feitas a Abraão e à sua descendência. (A Escritura) não diz: Aos seus descendentes — como (se se tratasse) de muitos — mas (diz) como de um só : A tua descendência (Gn. 12, 7), a qual é Cristo. | 16 The promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. He did not say, “and to descendents,” as if to many, but instead, as if to one, he said, “and to your offspring,” who is Christ. |
| 17 Ora, eis o que eu quero dizer: o testamento, confirmado por Deus, não foi anulado pela lei, feita quatrocentos e trinta anos depois, de modo a tornar vã a promessa. | 17 But I say this: the testament confirmed by God, which, after four hundred and thirty years became the Law, does not nullify, so as to make the promise empty. |
| 18 Em verdade, se pela lei é que vem a herança, já não vem pela promessa. Ora, foi pela promessa que Deus concedeu o seu favor a Abraão. | 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, then it is no longer of the promise. But God bestowed it to Abraham through the promise. |
| 19 Para que é então a lei? Foi acrescentada por causa das transgressões (para as refrear), até que viesse a descendência (de Abraão), a quem tinha sido feita a promessa, e foi promulgada pelos anjos através de um mediador (que foi Moisés). | 19 Why, then, was there a law? It was established because of transgressions, until the offspring would arrive, to whom he made the promise, ordained by Angels through the hand of a mediator. |
| 20 Ora um mediador não o é de um só; e Deus é só um. | 20 Now a mediator is not of one, yet God is one. |
| 21 Logo (replicareis) a lei é contra as promessas de Deus? De nenhuma sorte. Porque, se fosse dada uma lei que pudesse vivificar, a justiça (ou santidade) viria realmente da lei. | 21 So then, was the law contrary to the promises of God? Let it not be so! For if a law had been given, which was able to give life, truly justice would be of the law. |
| 22 Mas a Escritura encerrou tudo debaixo do pecado, para que a promessa fosse dada aos crentes mediante a fé em Jesus Cristo. | 22 But Scripture has enclosed everything under sin, so that the promise, by the faith of Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe. |
| 23 Mas, antes que a fé viesse, estávamos encerrados sob a guarda da lei, na expectação daquela fé que havia de ser revelada. | 23 But before the faith arrived, we were preserved by being enclosed under the law, unto that faith which was to be revealed. |
| 24 A lei, pois, foi o nosso pedagogo, para nos conduzir a Cristo, a fim de sermos justificados pela fé. | 24 And so the law was our guardian in Christ, in order that we might be justified by faith. |
| 25 Mas, depois que veio a fé, já não estamos sujeitos ao pedagogo, | 25 But now that faith has arrived, we are no longer under a guardian. |
| 26 porque todos vós sois filhos de Deus pela fé em Jesus Cristo, | 26 For you are all sons of God, through the faith which is in Christ Jesus. |
| 27 pois todos os que fostes batizados em Cristo, revestistes-vos de Cristo. | 27 For as many of you as have been baptized in Christ have become clothed with Christ. |
| 28 Não há judeu, nem grego; não há servo, nem livre; não há homem, nem mulher: todos vós sois um só em Jesus Cristo. | 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek; there is neither servant nor free; there is neither male nor female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. |
| 29 Se sois de Cristo, sois a descendência de Abraão, os herdeiros segundo a promessa (sem necessitar para nada das cerimônias da lei). | 29 And if you are Christ’s, then are you the offspring of Abraham, heirs according to the promise. |
