| 1 Se tu ouvires a voz do Senhor teu Deus, pondo em prática e observando todos os seus mandamentos, que hoje te prescrevo, o Senhor teu Deus te exaltará sobre todas as nações da terra. | 1 'But if you faithful y obey the voice of Yahweh your God, by keeping and observing al hiscommandments, which I am laying down for you today, Yahweh your God wil raise you higher than every othernation in the world, |
| 2 Todas estas bênçãos virão sobre ti, e te alcançarão, contanto que ouças os preceitos do Senhor teu Deus: | 2 and al these blessings wil befal and overtake you, for having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God. |
| 3 Tu serás bendito na cidade e bendito no campo. | 3 'You wil be blessed in the town and blessed in the countryside; |
| 4 Será bendito o fruto do teu ventre, o fruto da tua terra, o fruto dos teus animais, as crias de gado graúdo e de gado miúdo. | 4 blessed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the yield of your livestock, the young of yourcattle and the increase of your flocks; |
| 5 Benditos os teus celeiros, benditas as tuas sobras. | 5 blessed, your basket and your kneading trough. |
| 6 Serás bendito ao entrar e ao sair. | 6 You wil be blessed in coming home, and blessed in going out. |
| 7 O Senhor fará cair na tua presença os teus inimigos, que se levantam contra ti: eles virão contra ti por um só caminho, e por sete fugirão da tua presença. | 7 The enemies who attack you, Yahweh wil defeat before your eyes; they wil advance on you from onedirection and flee from you in seven. |
| 8 O Senhor derramará a (sua) bênção sobre os teus celeiros e sobre todas as obras das tuas mãos. Abençoar-te-á na terra que receberes. | 8 Yahweh wil command blessedness to be with you, on your barns and on al your undertakings, andhe wil bless you in the country given you by Yahweh your God. |
| 9 O Senhor te confirmará como seu povo santo, conforme ele te jurou, se observares os mandamentos do Senhor teu Deus e andares nos seus caminhos. | 9 'From you Yahweh wil make a people consecrated to himself, as he has sworn to you, if you keep thecommandments of Yahweh your God and fol ow his ways. |
| 10 Todos os povos da terra verão que é invocado sobre ti o nome do Senhor, e temer-te-ão. | 10 The peoples of the world, seeing that you bear Yahweh's name, wil al be afraid of you. |
| 11 O Senhor te fará cumular de todos os bens, do fruto do teu ventre, do fruto dos teus gados, do fruto da tua terra, que o Senhor jurou a teus pais que te havia de dar. | 11 Yahweh wil make you abound in possessions: in the offspring of your body, in the yield of your cattleand in the yield of your soil, in the country which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you. |
| 12 O Senhor abrirá o seu óptimo tesouro, o céu, para dar a seu tempo a chuva à tua terra, e abençoará todas as obras das tuas mãos. Tu emprestarás a muitas gentes, e de nenhum receberás emprestado. | 12 For you Yahweh wil open his treasury of rain, the heavens, to give your country its rain at the righttime, and to bless al your labours. You wil make many nations your subjects, yet you wil be subject to none. |
| 13 O Senhor te colocará à frente, e não na cauda: estarás sempre de cima, e não debaixo, contanto que ouças os mandamentos do Senhor teu Deus, que eu hoje te prescrevo, os observes, ponhas em prática, | 13 Yahweh wil put you at the head, not at the tail; you wil always be on top and never underneath, ifyou listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I am laying down for you today, and then keepthem and put them into practice, |
| 14 e não te desvies deles nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, para seguires os deuses estranhos e servi-los. | 14 not deviating to right or to left from any of the words which I am laying down for you today, byfol owing other gods and serving them. |
| 15 Porém, se tu não quiseres ouvir a voz do Senhor teu Deus, para observar e pôr em prática todos os seus mandamentos e leis, que eu hoje te prescrevo, virão sobre ti e te alcançarão todas estas maldições: | 15 'But if you do not obey the voice of Yahweh your God, and do not keep and observe all hiscommandments and laws which I am laying down for you today then all these curses wil befall and overtakeyou. |
| 16 Serás maldito na cidade, maldito no campo. | 16 'You wil be accursed in the town and accursed in the countryside; |
| 17 Maldito o teu celeiro, malditas as tuas sobras. | 17 accursed, your basket and your kneading trough; |
| 18 Maldito o fruto do teu ventre, o fruto da tua terra, as crias das tuas vacas e das tuas ovelhas. | 18 accursed, the offspring of your body, the yield of your soil, the young of your cattle and the increaseof your flock. |
| 19 Serás maldito ao entrar, e maldito ao sair. | 19 You wil be accursed in coming home, and accursed in going out. |
| 20 O Senhor mandará sobre ti a fome a carestia, e a maldição sobre todas as obras que fizeres até te destruir e exterminar dentro de pouco tempo, por causa dos teus péssimos desígnios, pelos quais me abandonaste. | 20 'Yahweh wil send a curse on you, a spel , an imprecation on al your labours until you have beendestroyed and quickly perish, because of your perverse behaviour, for having deserted me. |
| 21 O Senhor te fará pegar a peste, até que ela te consuma da terra em que entrarás para a possuir. | 21 Yahweh wil fasten the plague on you, until it has exterminated you from the country which you areabout to enter and make your own. |
| 22 O Senhor te fira com a fraqueza, com febre e com frio, com calor e secura, com ar corrompido e com ferrugem, e te persiga até que pereças. | 22 Yahweh wil strike you down with consumption, fever, inflammation, burning fever, drought, wind-blast, mildew, and these wil pursue you to your ruin. |
| 23 O céu, que está por cima de ti, seja de bronze, e a terra, que pisas, seja de ferro. | 23 The heavens above you wil be brass, the earth beneath you iron. |
| 24 Em lugar de chuva mande o Senhor sobre a tua terra areia, e do céu caia cinza sobre ti até que sejas destruído. | 24 Your country's rain Yahweh wil turn into dust and sand; it will fal on you from the heavens until youperish. |
| 25 O Senhor te faça cair diante de teus inimigos: por um caminho saias contra eles, e por sete fujas, e sejas disperso por todos os reinos da terra. | 25 Yahweh wil have you defeated by your enemies; you will advance on them from one direction andflee from them in seven; and you wil be a terrifying object-lesson to al the kingdoms of the world. |
| 26 Sirva o teu cadáver de pasto a todas as aves do céu e às feras da terra, e não haja quem as afugente. | 26 Your carcase will be carrion for al wild birds and al wild animals, with no one to scare them away. |
| 27 O Senhor te castigue com a úlcera do Egipto, e (fira) de hemorroidas, sarna e tinha, de que te não poderás curar. | 27 'Yahweh wil strike you down with Egyptian ulcers, with swel ings in the groin, with scurvy and theitch, for which you wil find no cure. |
| 28 O Senhor te fira de loucura, de cegueira e de frenesi, | 28 Yahweh wil strike you down with madness, blindness, distraction of mind, |
| 29 de sorte que andes às apalpadelas ao meio dia como um cego costuma andar às apalpadelas nas trevas, e não acertes nos teus caminhos. Em todo o tempo sejas oprimido pela violência e despojado (dos teus bens), e não tenhas quem te livre. | 29 until you grope your way at noon like a blind man groping in the dark, and your steps will lead younowhere. 'You will never be anything but exploited and plundered, with no one to save you. |
| 30 Recebas uma mulher, e outro durma com ela. Edifiques uma casa, e não a habites. Plantes uma vinha, e outro a vindime. | 30 Get engaged to a woman, another man will have her; build a house, you wil not live in it; plant avineyard, you wil not gather its first-fruits. |
| 31 O teu boi seja imolado diante de ti e não comas dele. O teu jumento te seja arrebatado na tua presença, e não te seja restituído. As tuas ovelhas sejam dadas aos teus inimigos, e não haja quem te socorra. | 31 Your ox wil be slaughtered before your eyes and you will eat none of it; your donkey wil be carriedoff in front of you and not be returned to you; your sheep wil be given to your enemies, and no one will come toyour help. |
| 32 Os teus filhos e as tuas filhas sejam entregues a outro povo, e vejam-no os teus olhos, desfaleçam de os ver todo o dia, e não haja força na tua mão. | 32 Your sons and daughters wil be handed over to another people, and every day you will wear youreyes out watching for them, while your hands are powerless. |
| 33 Os frutos da tua terra e do teu trabalho coma-os um povo que tu não conheces, e sejas sempre oprimido e esmagado. | 33 A nation hitherto unknown to you wil eat the yield of your soil and of all your hard work. You wilnever be anything but exploited and crushed. |
| 34 Enlouqueças por causa do terror daquilo que os teus olhos hão-de ver. | 34 You wil be driven mad by the sights you wil see. |
| 35 O Senhor te fira com a chaga maligna nos joelhos e nas pernas, e não possas ser curado: (depois) cubra-te dela desde a planta do pé até ao alto da cabeça. | 35 Yahweh wil strike you down with foul ulcers on knee and leg, for which you wil find no cure -- fromthe sole of your foot to the top of your head. |
| 36 O Senhor te levará a ti e ao teu rei, que tiveres estabelecido sobre ti, a uma nação que nem tu nem teus pais conhecem: lá servirás a deuses estranhos, ao pau e à pedra. | 36 'Yahweh wil send away both you and the king whom you have appointed to rule you to a nationunknown either to you or to your ancestors, and there you will serve other gods, made of wood and stone. |
| 37 Serás objecto de pasmo, de ludibrio e de fábula para todos os povos, onde o Senhor te houver levado. | 37 And you wil be the astonishment, the byword, the laughing-stock of al the peoples where Yahweh istaking you. |
| 38 Lançarás muita semente à terra e recolherás muito pouco, porque os gafanhotos devorarão tudo. | 38 'You wil cast seed in plenty on the fields but harvest little, since the locust wil devour it. |
| 39 Plantarás a vinha, e a cavarás, mas não beberás o vinho, nem dela colherás coisa alguma, porque será destruída pelos vermes. | 39 You wil plant and till your vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, since the grub willeat them up. |
| 40 Terás oliveiras em todas as tuas terras, mas não te ungirás com azeite, porque as azeitonas cairão. | 40 You wil grow olive trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with the oil, since your olivetrees wil be cut down. |
| 41 Gerarás filhos e filhas, mas não serão para ti porque irão para o cativeiro. | 41 You wil father sons and daughters but they will not belong to you, since they wil go into captivity. |
| 42 Todas as tuas árvores e os frutos da tua terra consumi-los-ão os insectos. | 42 Al your trees and the whole yield of your soil will be the prey of insects. |
| 43 O estrangeiro que vive contigo no país, levantar-se-á contra ti, cada vez mais alto; e tu descerás cada vez mais baixo. | 43 'The foreigners living with you wil rise higher and higher at your expense, while you yourself sinklower and lower. |
| 44 Ele te emprestará, e tu não lhe emprestarás. Ele estará à cabeça, e tu na cauda. | 44 You wil be subject to them, not they to you; they wil be the ones at the head, and you the one at thetail. |
| 45 Todas estas maldições virão sobre ti, e, perseguindo-te, te alcançarão, até que sejas destruído, porque não ouviste a voz do Senhor teu Deus, nem observaste os seus mandamentos nem as leis que ele te prescreveu. | 45 'Al these curses wil befal you, pursue you and overtake you until you have been destroyed, for nothaving obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God by keeping his commandments and laws which he has laid downfor you. |
| 46 Essas maldições serão, para ti e para a tua posteridade, como um sinal e um prodígio, para sempre | 46 They wil be a sign and a wonder over you and your descendants for ever. |
| 47 Visto que não serviste ao Senhor teu Deus com gosto e alegria de coração, na abundância de todas as coisas, | 47 'For not having joyful y and with happy heart served Yahweh your God, despite the abundance ofeverything, |
| 48 servirás o inimigo, que o Senhor enviará contra ti, com fome e com sede, com nudez e com falta de tudo; ele porá sobre o teu pescoço um jugo de ferro, até que te destrua. | 48 you will have to serve the enemy whom Yahweh wil send against you, in hunger, thirst, lack ofclothing and total privation. He will put an iron yoke on your neck, until he has destroyed you. |
| 49 O Senhor fará vir sobre ti de longe, das extremidades da terra, uma nação que voa como a águia, cuja língua tu não poderás compreender, | 49 'Against you Yahweh wil raise a distant nation from the ends of the earth like an eagle taking wing: anation whose language you do not understand, |
| 50 nação em extremo arrogante, que não terá respeito pelo velho nem se compadecerá do menino, | 50 a nation grim of face, with neither respect for the old, nor pity for the young. |
| 51 que devorará o fruto dos teus gados, os frutos da tua terra, até que pereças, que não te deixará nem trigo, nem vinho, nem azeite, nem manadas de bois, nem rebanhos de ovelhas, até que te disperse | 51 He wil eat the yield of your cattle and the yield of your soil until you have been destroyed; he willleave you neither wheat, nor wine, nor oil, nor the young of your cattle, nor increase of your flock, until he hasmade an end of you. |
| 52 até que te aniquile em todas as tuas cidades, e sejam derribados, em toda a tua terra, os teus muros sólidos e altos, em que punhas a tua confiança. Serás sitiado dentro das tuas portas, em toda a terra, que o Senhor teu Deus te dará. | 52 He wil besiege you inside al your towns until your loftiest and most strongly fortified walls collapse,on which, throughout your country, you have relied. He wil besiege you inside al the towns throughout yourcountry, given you by Yahweh your God. |
| 53 Comerás o fruto do teu ventre, as carnes dos teus filhos e de tuas filhas, que o Senhor teu Deus te tiver dado, tamanhas serão a angústia e a fome, com que te oprimirá o teu inimigo. | 53 During the siege and in the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you, you wil eat the offspring ofyour own body, the flesh of the sons and daughters given you by Yahweh your God. |
| 54 O homem mais delicado dos teus, o mais habituado ao luxo, terá inveja ao próprio irmão, à (sua) mulher, que repousa sobre o seu seio, aos filhos que ainda lhe restam (que ainda não devorou) | 54 The gentlest and tenderest of your men wil scowl at his brother, and at the wife whom he embraces,and at his remaining children, |
| 55 e não lhes dará das carnes de seus filhos, que ele comerá, por não ter outra coisa, no cerco e na penúria, com que te afligirão os teus inimigos em todas as tuas cidades. | 55 not wil ing to give any of them any of his own children's flesh, which he is eating; because of thesiege and the distress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns, he wil have nothing left. |
| 56 A mulher, de entre vós, mais delicada e mais dada ao luxo, que nem sequer tentava pousar na terra a planta do pé, por causa da sua excessiva brandura e delicadeza, olhará com maus olhos o marido do seu coração, o seu filho e a sua filha (não querendo repartir com eles) | 56 The most refined and fastidious of your women, so refined, so fastidious that she has never venturedto set the sole of her foot to the ground, wil scowl at the husband whom she embraces, and at her son anddaughter, and at the after-birth when it leaves her womb, and at the child to which she has given birth- |
| 57 as secundinas, que sairão do seu ventre, e os filhos que no mesmo momento lhe nascerem, porque os comerá ocultamente pela falta de todas as coisas, no cerco e na devastação com que te oprimirá o teu inimigo dentro das tuas portas. | 57 she will hide away and eat them, so complete wil be the starvation resulting from the siege and thedistress to which your enemy wil reduce you in all your towns. |
| 58 Se não cuidares de pôr em prática todas as palavras desta lei, que estão escritas neste volume, e não temeres este nome glorioso e terrível: Iavé (Senhor) teu Deus — | 58 'If you do not keep and observe al the words of this Law, which are written in this book, in the fear ofthis glorious and awe-inspiring name: Yahweh your God, |
| 59 o Senhor aumentará as tuas pragas e as pragas da tua descendência, pragas grandes e permanentes, doenças horríveis e pertinazes. | 59 Yahweh wil strike you down with monstrous plagues, you and your descendants: with plaguesgrievous and lasting, diseases pernicious and enduring. |
| 60 Voltará contra ti todas as aflições do Egipto, que temeste, e elas se agarrarão a ti. | 60 He wil afflict you with al the maladies of Egypt which you used to dread, and they wil fasten on you. |
| 61 Além disso, o Senhor enviará sobre ti, até te destruir, todas as enfermidades e pragas, que não estão escritas no livro desta lei. | 61 What is more, Yahweh wil afflict you with all the plagues and all the diseases not mentioned in thebook of this Law, until you have been destroyed. |
| 62 Ficareis em pequeno número, vós que antes, pela multidão, éreis como as estrelas do céu, porque não foi ouvida a voz do Senhor vosso Deus. | 62 There will only be a smal group of you left, you who were once as numerous as the stars of heaven.'For not having obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God, |
| 63 E, assim como o Senhor de comprazia em vos fazer bem e em vos multiplicar, assim se comprazerá em vos perder, em vos destruir, de maneira que sejais exterminados daquela terra, em cuja posse estais para entrar. | 63 just as Yahweh used to delight in making you happy and in making your numbers grow, so wil hetake delight in ruining you and destroying you. You wil be torn from the country which you are about to enter andmake your own. |
| 64 O Senhor te dispersará entre todos os povos, desde uma extremidade da terra até à outra; lá servirás a deuses estranhos, que tu e teus pais ignoram, a paus e a pedras. | 64 Yahweh wil scatter you throughout every people, from one end of the earth to the other; there youwil serve other gods made of wood and stone, hitherto unknown either to you or to your ancestors. |
| 65 Também não terás repouso entre estes povos, nem a planta do teu pé terá descanso, porque o Senhor te dará ali um coração medroso, uns olhos lânguidos, e uma alma consumida de tristeza. | 65 Among these nations there wil be no repose for you, no rest for the sole of your foot; there Yahwehwil give you a quaking heart, weary eyes, halting breath. |
| 66 A tua vida estará como suspensa por um fio diante de ti. Temerás de noite e de dia, e não acreditarás na tua vida. | 66 Your life ahead of you wil hang in doubt; you wil be afraid day and night, uncertain of your life. |
| 67 Pela manhã dirás: Quem me dera a tarde? — e à tarde; Quem me dera a manhã? — por causa do temor do teu coração, e por causa daquelas coisas que verás com os teus olhos. | 67 In the morning you wil say, "How I wish it were evening!", and in the evening you will say, "How I wish it were morning!", such terror will grip your heart and such sights you wil see! |
| 68 O Senhor te reconduzirá em navios ao Egipto, pelo caminho do qual ele te tinha dito que não o veríeis mais. Lá sereis vendidos aos vossos inimigos como escravos, e escravas, e não haverá quem vos compre. | 68 Yahweh wil send you back to Egypt, either by ship or by a road which I promised you would neversee again. And there you wil want to offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as serving men and women, butno one wil buy you.' |
| 69 These are the words of the covenant which Yahweh ordered Moses to make with the Israelites inMoab, in addition to the covenant which he had made with them at Horeb. |
