He cal ed the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases,
Enviou-os a pregar o reino de Deus, e a curar os doentes.2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
He said to them, 'Take nothing for the journey: neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money; anddo not have a spare tunic.
Em qualquer casa, em que entrardes, ficai lá, e ( não ) saiais dela até à vossa partida.4 Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave let your departure be from there.
As for those who do not welcome you, when you leave their town shake the dust from your feet asevidence against them.'
Tendo eles partido, andavam de aldeia em aldeia pregando o Evangelho, e fazendo curas por toda a parte.6 So they set out and went from village to vil age proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.
Herodes tetrarca ouviu falar de tudo o que se passava, e não sabia que pensar, porque uns diziam:7 Meanwhile Herod the tetrarch had heard about al that was going on; and he was puzzled, becausesome people were saying that John had risen from the dead,
"É João que ressuscitou dos mortos"; outros: "É Elias que apareceu"; outros: "É um dos antigos profetas, que ressuscitou."8 others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.
E buscava ocasião de o ver.9 But Herod said, 'John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?' And he was anxiousto see him.
Ele, tomando-os consigo, retirou-se aparte a um lugar do território de Betsaida.10 On their return the apostles gave him an account of al they had done. Then he took them with him andwithdrew towards a town called Bethsaida where they could be by themselves.
Sabendo isto, as multidões foram-no seguindo. E as recebeu, falou-lhes do reino de Deus e sarou os que necessitavam de cura.11 But the crowds got to know and they went after him. He made them welcome and talked to them aboutthe kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing.
Ora o dia começava a declinar. It was late afternoon when the Twelve came up to him and said, 'Send the people away, and they cango to the vil ages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.'
He replied, 'Give them something to eat yourselves.' But they said, 'We have no more than five loavesand two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for al these people.'
Pois eram quase cinco mil homens. For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, 'Get them to sit down in parties ofabout fifty.'
Eles assim o executaram, e mandaram-nos sentar a todos.15 They did so and made them al sit down.
Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven, and said the blessing overthem; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd.
Comeram todos, e ficaram saciados. E levantaram do que lhes sobejou doze cestos de fragmentos.17 They al ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps left over were col ected they fil ed twelvebaskets.
Jesus interrogou-os: "Quem dizem as multidões que sou eu?"18 Now it happened that he was praying alone, and his disciples came to him and he put this question tothem, 'Who do the crowds say I am?'
And they answered, 'Some say John the Baptist; others Elijah; others again one of the ancientprophets come back to life.'
Ele diese-lhes: "E vós quem dizeis que sou eu?" Pedro, respondendo, disse: "O Cristo de Deus."20 'But you,' he said to them, 'who do you say I am?' It was Peter who spoke up. 'The Christ of God,' hesaid.
But he gave them strict orders and charged them not to say this to anyone.
He said, 'The Son of man is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priestsand scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.'
Depois, dirigindo-se a todos: "Se alguém quer vir após de mim, negue-se a si mesmo, tome a sua cruz todos os dias, e siga-me.23 Then, speaking to al , he said, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himself andtake up his cross every day and fol ow me.
Porque o que quiser salvar a sua vida (abandonando-me), a perderá; e quem perder a sua vida por causa de mim, salvá-la-á.24 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake, wil save it.
What benefit is it to anyone to win the whole world and forfeit or lose his very self?
For if anyone is ashamed of me and of my words, of him the Son of man wil be ashamed when hecomes in his own glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.
I tel you truly, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the kingdom ofGod.'
Cerca de oito dias depois destas palavras, tomou consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, e subiu a um monte para orar.28 Now about eight days after this had been said, he took with him Peter, John and James and went upthe mountain to pray.
And it happened that, as he was praying, the aspect of his face was changed and his clothing becamesparkling white.
And suddenly there were two men talking to him; they were Moses and Elijah
os quais apareceram cheios de majestade, e falavam da morte que ele devia sofrer em Jerusalém.31 appearing in glory, and they were speaking of his passing which he was to accomplish in Jerusalem.
Mas, despertando, viram a majestade de Jesus, e os dois varões que estavam com ele.32 Peter and his companions were heavy with sleep, but they woke up and saw his glory and the two menstanding with him.
As these were leaving him, Peter said to Jesus, 'Master, it is wonderful for us to be here; so let usmake three shelters, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.' He did not know what he was saying.
As he was saying this, a cloud came and covered them with shadow; and when they went into thecloud the disciples were afraid.
Então saiu uma voz da nuvem, dizendo: "Este é o meu filho dilecto, ouvi-o."35 And a voice came from the cloud saying, 'This is my Son, the Chosen One. Listen to him.'
Ao soar aquela voz, Jesus ficou só. Eles calaram-se, e a ninguém disseram naqueles dias nada do que tinham visto.36 And after the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. The disciples kept silence and, at that time, told no one what they had seen.
Now it happened that on the fol owing day when they were coming down from the mountain a largecrowd came to meet him.
And suddenly a man in the crowd cried out. 'Master,' he said, 'I implore you to look at my son: he is myonly child.
A spirit wil suddenly take hold of him, and all at once it gives a sudden cry and throws the boy intoconvulsions with foaming at the mouth; it is slow to leave him, but when it does, it leaves the boy worn out.
I begged your disciples to drive it out, and they could not.'
Jesus respondeu: "O ’ geração incrédula e perversa! Até quando estarei convosco e vos sofrerei? Traz cá o teu filho."41 In reply Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be among you andput up with you? Bring your son here.'
Mas Jesus ameaçou o espírito imundo, sarou o menino, e restituiu-o a seu pai.42 Even while the boy was coming, the devil threw him to the ground in convulsions. But Jesus rebukedthe unclean spirit and cured the boy and gave him back to his father,
E todos pasmavam da grandeza de Deus. Enquanto todos admiravam as coisas que ele fazia, Jesus disse aos seus discípulos;43 and everyone was awestruck by the greatness of God. But while everyone was ful of admiration for alhe did, he said to his disciples,
"Ponde nos vossos corações estas palavras: O Filho do homem está para ser entregue nas mãos dos homens."44 'For your part, you must have these words constantly in mind: The Son of man is going to be deliveredinto the power of men.'
But they did not understand what he said; it was hidden from them so that they should not see themeaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about it.
An argument started between them about which of them was the greatest.
Jesus, vendo os pensamentos do seu coração, tomou pela mão um menino, pô-lo junto a si,47 Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child whom he set byhis side
Porque aquele que entre vós todos é o menor, esse é o maior."48 and then he said to them, 'Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; andanyone who welcomes me, welcomes the one who sent me. The least among you all is the one who is thegreatest.'
'Master,' he said, 'we saw someone driving out devils in your name, and because he isnot with us we tried to stop him.'
But Jesus said to him, 'You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.'
Aconteceu que, aproximando-se o tempo da sua partida deste mundo, dirigiu-se resolutamente para Jerusalém,51 Now it happened that as the time drew near for him to be taken up, he resolutely turned his facetowards Jerusalem
e enviou adiante de si mensageiros, os quais entraram numa aldeia de Samaritanos para lhe prepararem pousada.52 and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan vil age to makepreparations for him,
Não o receberam, por dar mostras de que ia para Jerusalém.53 but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem.
Vendo isto os seus discípulos Tiago e João, disseram : "Senhor, queres tu que digamos que desça fogo do céu, que os consuma?"54 Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, 'Lord, do you want us to cal down fire from heaven toburn them up?'
E foram para outra povoação.56 and they went on to another village.
As they travel ed along they met a man on the road who said to him, 'I wil fol ow you wherever you go.'
Jesus respondeu-lhe: "As raposas têm suas covas, as aves do céu têm seus ninhos, porém o Filho do homem não tem onde reclinar a cabeça."58 Jesus answered, 'Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of man hasnowhere to lay his head.'
A um outro disse: "Segue-me." Mas ele disse: "Senhor, permite-me que eu vá primeiro sepultar meu pai."59 Another to whom he said, 'Fol ow me,' replied, 'Let me go and bury my father first.'
But he answered, 'Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of thekingdom of God.'
Another said, 'I wil fol ow you, sir, but first let me go and say good -- bye to my people at home.'
Jesus respondeu-lhe; "Ninguém que, depois de ter metido a sua mão ao arado, olha para trás, é apto para o reino de Deus.62 Jesus said to him, 'Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom ofGod.'
