| 1 Num sábado, passando Jesus pelas searas, os seus discípulos colhiam espigas, e, machucando-as nas mãos, as comiam. | 1 It happened that one Sabbath he was walking through the cornfields, and his disciples were pickingears of corn, rubbing them in their hands and eating them. |
| 2 Alguns dos fariseus disseram-Ihes: "Porque fazeis o que não é permitido nos sábados?" | 2 Some of the Pharisees said, 'Why are you doing something that is forbidden on the Sabbath day?' |
| 3 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Não leste o que fez David, quando teve fome, ele e os que com ele estavam?" | 3 Jesus answered them, 'So you have not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry- |
| 4 Como entrou na casa de Deus, tomou os pães da proposição, comeu deles, e deu aos seus companheiros, embora não fosse permitido comer deles senão aos sacerdotes?" | 4 how he went into the house of God and took the loaves of the offering and ate them and gave them tohis fol owers, loaves which the priests alone are al owed to eat?' |
| 5 Depois acrescentou: "O Filho do homem é Senhor também do sábado." | 5 And he said to them, 'The Son of man is master of the Sabbath.' |
| 6 Aconteceu que, em outro sábado, entrou Jesus na sinagoga, e ensinava. Estava ali um homem que tinha a mão direita seca. | 6 Now on another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and began to teach, and a man was present, andhis right hand was withered. |
| 7 Os escribas e os fariseus o estavam observando para ver se curava ao sábado, a fim de terem de que o acusar. | 7 The scribes and the Pharisees were watching him to see if he would cure somebody on the Sabbath,hoping to find something to charge him with. |
| 8 Mas ele conhecia os seus pensamentos, e disse ao homem que tinha a mão seca: "Levanta-te, e põe-te em pé no meio." Ele, levantando-se, pôs-se de pé. | 8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man with the withered hand, 'Get up and stand out in themiddle!' And he came forward and stood there. |
| 9 Jesus disse-lhe: "Pergunto-vos se é lícito aos sábados fazer bem ou mal, salvar a vida ou tirá-la." | 9 Then Jesus said to them, 'I put it to you: is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good, or to do evil; to savelife, or to destroy it?' |
| 10 Depois, correndo a todos com o olhar, disse ao homem : "Estende a tua mão." Ele estendeu-a, e a sua mão tornou-se sã. | 10 Then he looked round at them al and said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He did so, and his handwas restored. |
| 11 Eles encheram-se de furor, e falavam uns com os outros para ver que fariam contra Jesus. | 11 But they were furious and began to discuss the best way of dealing with Jesus. |
| 12 Naqueles dias Jesus retirou-se para o monte a orar, e passou toda a noite em oração a Deus. | 12 Now it happened in those days that he went onto the mountain to pray; and he spent the whole night inprayer to God. |
| 13 Quando se fez dia, chamou os seus discipulos, e escolheu doze dentre eles, aos quais deu o nome de Apóstolos: | 13 When day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve of them; he cal ed them 'apostles': |
| 14 Simão, a quem deu o sobrenome de Pedro, André, seu irmão, Tiago, João, Filipe, Bartolomeu, | 14 Simon whom he called Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, |
| 15 Mateus, Tomé, Tiago, filho de Alfeu, Simão, chamado o Zelador, | 15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon cal ed the Zealot, |
| 16 Judas, irmão de Tiago, e Judas Escariotes, que foi o traidor. | 16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor. |
| 17 Descendo com eles, parou numa planície. Estava lá um grande número dos seus discipulos, e uma grande multidão de povo de toda a Judeia, de Jerusalém, do litoral de Tiro e de Sidónia, | 17 He then came down with them and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a largegathering of his disciples, with a great crowd of people from al parts of Judaea and Jerusalem and the coastalregion of Tyre and Sidon |
| 18 que tinham vindo para o ouvir, e para ser curados das suas doenças. Os que eram vexados pelos espíritos imundos ficavam também sãos. | 18 who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. People tormented by unclean spirits werealso cured, |
| 19 Todo o povo procurava tocá-lo, porque saía dele uma virtude que os curava a todos. | 19 and everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him because power came out of him that cured them al . |
| 20 Levantando os olhos para os seus discípulos, dizia: "Bem-aventurados vós os pobres, porque vosso é o reino de Deus. | 20 Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said: How blessed are you who are poor: the kingdom of Godis yours. |
| 21 Bem-aventurados os que agora tendes fome, porque sereis saciados. Bem-aventurados os que agora chorais, porque rireis. | 21 Blessed are you who are hungry now: you shal have your fil . Blessed are you who are weeping now:you shall laugh. |
| 22 Bem-aventurados sereis quando os homens vos odiarem, vos repelirem, vos carregarem de injúrias, e rejeitarem o vosso nome como mau, por causa do Filho do homem. | 22 'Blessed are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal,on account of the Son of man. |
| 23 Alegrai-vos nesse dia, e exultai, porque será grande a vossa recompensa no céu. Era assim que os pais deles tratavam os profetas. | 23 Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, look!-your reward wil be great in heaven. This wasthe way their ancestors treated the prophets. |
| 24 Mas, ai de vós, ó ricos! porque tendes a vossa consolação (neste mundo). | 24 But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now. |
| 25 Ai de vós os que estais saciados! porque vireis a ter fome. Ai de vós os que agora rides! porque gemereis e chorareis. | 25 Alas for you who have plenty to eat now: you shal go hungry. Alas for you who are laughing now: youshall mourn and weep. |
| 26 Ai de vós, quando todos os homens vos louvarem! porque assim faziam aos falsos profetas os pais deles. | 26 'Alas for you when everyone speaks wel of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the falseprophets. |
| 27 Mas digo-vos a vós, que me ouvis: Amai os vossos inimigos, fazei bem aos que vos odeiam | 27 'But I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, |
| 28 abençoai os que vos amaldiçoam, orai pelos que vos caluniam. | 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly. |
| 29 A o que te ferir numa face, oferece-lhe também a outra. Ao que te tirar o manto, não o impeças de levar também a túnica. | 29 To anyone who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek as well; to anyone who takes yourcloak from you, do not refuse your tunic. |
| 30 Dá a todo aquele que te pede: e ao que leva o que é teu, não lho tornes a pedir. | 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from someone who takes it. |
| 31 O que quereis que vos façam os homens, fazei-o vós também a eles. | 31 Treat others as you would like people to treat you. |
| 32 Se vós amais os que vos amam, que mérito tendes? Porque os pecadores também amam quem os ama. | 32 If you love those who love you, what credit can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. |
| 33 Se fizerdes bem aos que vos fazem bem, que mérito tendes? Os pecadores também fazem isto. | 33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit can you expect? For even sinners do thatmuch. |
| 34 Se emprestardes àqueles de quem esperais receber, que mérito tendes? Os pecadores também emprestam aos pecadores, para que se lhes faça outro tanto. | 34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to get money back, what credit can you expect? Evensinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. |
| 35 Vós, porém, amai os vossos inimigos; fazei bem e emprestai, sem daí esperardes nada; e será grande a vossa recompensa, e sereis filhos do Altíssimo, que é bom para os ingratos e para os maus. | 35 Instead, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend without any hope of return. You wil have agreat reward, and you wil be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. |
| 36 Sede misericordiosos, como também vosso Pai é misericordioso. | 36 'Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate. |
| 37 Não julgueis, e não sereis julgados; não condeneis, e não sereis condenados; perdoai, e sereis perdoados; | 37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you wil not be condemned; forgive,and you wil be forgiven. |
| 38 dai, e dar-se-vos-à. Um a medida boa, cheia, recalcada e acogulada, vos será lançada nas dobras do vosso vestido. Porque, com a mesma medida com que medirdes para os outros, será medido para vós." | 38 Give, and there wil be gifts for you: a ful measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing,wil be poured into your lap; because the standard you use will be the standard used for you.' |
| 39 Dizia-lhes também esta comparação : "Pode porventura um cego guiar outro cego? Não cairão ambos no barranco? | 39 He also told them a parable, 'Can one blind person guide another? Surely both wil fal into a pit? |
| 40 O discípulo não é mais que o mestre; mas todo o discipulo será perfeito, se for como seu mestre. | 40 Disciple is not superior to teacher; but ful y trained disciple wil be like teacher. |
| 41 Porque vês tu a aresta no olho do teu irmão, e não notas a trave que tens no teu? | 41 Why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the great log in your own? |
| 42 Ou como podes tu dizer a teu irmão : Deixa, irmão, que eu tire do teu olho a aresta, não vendo tu mesmo a trave que tens no teu? Hipócrita, tira primeiro a trave do teu olho, e depois verás para tirar a aresta do olho de teu irmão. | 42 How can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me take out that splinter in your eye," when you cannotsee the great log in your own? Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you wil see clearlyenough to take out the splinter in your brother's eye. |
| 43 Porque não é boa árvore a que dá frutos maus, nem má árvore a que dá bom fruto. | 43 'There is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces sound fruit. |
| 44 Porquanto cada árvore se conhece pelo seu fruto; pois nem se colhem figos dos espinheiros, nem se vindimam uvas de um abrolho. | 44 Every tree can be told by its own fruit: people do not pick figs from thorns, nor gather grapes frombrambles. |
| 45 O homem bom, do bom tesouro do seu coração tira o bem; o homem mau, do mau tesouro tira o mal; porque a boca fala da abundância do coração. | 45 Good people draw what is good from the store of goodness in their hearts; bad people draw what isbad from the store of badness. For the words of the mouth flow out of what fil s the heart. |
| 46 Porque me chamais vós Senhor, Senhor, e não fazeis o que eu vos digo? | 46 'Why do you call me, "Lord, Lord" and not do what I say? |
| 47 Todo o que vem a mim, que ouve as minhas palavras, e as põe em prática, vou mostrar-vos a quem ele é semelhante. | 47 'Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and acts on them -- I wil show you what such aperson is like. |
| 48 É semelhante a um homem que, edificando uma casa, cavou profundamente, e pôs os alicerces sobre a rocha. Vindo uma inundação, investiu a torrente contra aquela casa, e não pôde movê-la, porque estava bem edificada. | 48 Such a person is like the man who, when he built a house, dug, and dug deep, and laid thefoundations on rock; when the river was in flood it bore down on that house but could not shake it, it was so welbuilt. |
| 49 Mas o que ouve, e não pratica, é semelhante a um homem, que edificou a sua casa sobre a terra sem fundamentos. Investiu a torrente contra ela, e logo caiu, e foi grande a ruína daquela casa." | 49 But someone who listens and does nothing is like the man who built a house on soil, with nofoundations; as soon as the river bore down on it, it col apsed; and what a ruin that house became!' |
