| 1 Estando ele a fazer oração em certo lugar, quando acabou, um dos seus discípulos disse-lhe: "Senhor, ensina-nos a orar, assim como também João ensinou aos seus discípulos." | 1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. |
| 2 Ele respondeu-lhes: "Quando orardes, dizei: Pai, santificado seja o teu nome. Venha o teu reino. | 2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. |
| 3 O pão nosso de cada dia nos dá hoje; | 3 Give us day by day our daily bread. |
| 4 perdoa-nos os nossos pecados, pois que também nós perdoámos aos que nos ofenderam; e não nos deixes cair em tentação." | 4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. |
| 5 Disse-lhes mais: "Se algum de vós tiver um amigo, e for ter com ele à meia-noite para lhe dizer: "Amigo, empresta-me três pães, | 5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; |
| 6 porque um meu amigo acaba de chegar a minha casa de uma viagem, e não tenho nada que lhe dar; | 6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? |
| 7 e ele, respondendo lá de dentro, disser; Não me sejas importuno, a porta está agora fechada, os meus filhos e eu estamos deitados; não me posso levantar para tos dar... | 7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. |
| 8 digo-vos que, ainda que ele se não levantasse a dar-lhos, por ser seu amigo, certamente pela sua importunação se levantará, e lhe dará tudo aquilo de que precisar. | 8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. |
| 9 Eu digo-vos: Pedi, e dár-se-vos-á; buscai, e encontrareis; batei, e abrir-se-vos-á. | 9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. |
| 10 Porque todo aquele que pede, recebe; e o que busca, encontra; e ao que bate, se lhe abrirá. | 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. |
| 11 Se um filho pedir pão, qual é entre vós o pai que lhe dará uma pedra? Ou, se lhe pedir um peixe, dar-lhe-á ele, em vez do peixe, uma serpente? | 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? |
| 12 Ou se lhe pedir um ovo, porventura dar-lhe-á um escorpião? | 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? |
| 13 Se pois vós, sendo maus, sabeis dar boas dádivas a vossos filhos, quanto mais o vosso Pai celestial dará o Espírito Santo aos que lho pedirem." | 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? |
| 14 Jesus estava expelindo um demônio, que era mudo. Depois de ter expelido o demônio, o mudo falou, e as multidões ficaram maravilhadas. | 14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. |
| 15 Mas alguns disseram: "Ele expele os demônios por virtude de Belzebu, príncipe dos demônios." | 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. |
| 16 Outros, para o tentarem, pediam-lhe um prodígio vindo do céu. | 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. |
| 17 Ele, porém, conhecendo os seus pensamentos, disse-Ihes: "Todo o reino dividido contra si mesmo será devastado, e cairá casa sobre casa. | 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. |
| 18 Se, pois, Satanás está dividido contra si mesmo, como estará em pé o seu reino? Porque vós dizeis que por virtude de Belzebu é que eu lanço fora os demônios. | 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. |
| 19 Ora, se é por virtude de Belzebu que eu lanço fora os demônios, vossos filhos por virtude de quem os expelem? Por isso eles mesmos serão os vossos juízes. | 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. |
| 20 Mas se eu, pelo dedo de Deus, lanço fora os demônios, certamente chegou a vós o reino de Deus. | 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. |
| 21 Quando um valente armado, guarda o seu palácio, estão em segurança os bens que possui; | 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: |
| 22 porém, se, sobrevindo outro mais valente do que ele, o vencer, tira-lhe as armas, em que confiava, e reparte os seus despojos. | 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. |
| 23 Quem não é comigo, é contra mim; e quem não colhe comigo desperdiça. | 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth. |
| 24 Quando o espírito imundo saiu de um homem, anda por lugares secos, buscando repouso. Não o encontrando, diz: Voltarei para minha casa, donde sai. | 24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. |
| 25 Quando vem, a encontra varrida e adornada. | 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. |
| 26 Então vai, toma consigo outros sete espíritos piores do que ele, e, entrando, habitam ali. E o último estado daquele homem torna-se pior do que o primeiro." | 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. |
| 27 Aconteceu que, enquanto ele dizia estas palavras, uma mulher, levantando a voz do meio da multidão, disse-lhe: "Bem-aventurado o ventre que te trouxe, e os peitos a que foste amamentado." | 27 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. |
| 28 Porém ele disse: "Antes bem-aventurados aqueles que ouvem a palavra de Deus, e a põem em prática." | 28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. |
| 29 Concorrendo as multidões, começou a dizer: "Esta geração é uma geração perversa; pede um sinal, mas não lhe será dado outro sinal, senão o sinal do profeta Jonas. | 29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. |
| 30 Porque, assim como Jonas foi um sinal para os ninivitas, assim o Filho do homem será um sinal para esta geração. | 30 For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. |
| 31 A rainha do meio-dia levantar-se-á no dia de juízo contra os homens desta geração, e condená-los-á, porque veio da extremidade da terra ouvir a sabedoria de Salomão; entretanto, eis aqui está quem é mais do que Salomão. | 31 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. |
| 32 Os ninivitas levantar-se-ão no (dia de) juízo contra esta geração, e condená-la-ão, porque fizeram penitência com a pregação de Jonas; entretanto eis aqui está quem é mais do que Jonas! | 32 The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. |
| 33 Ninguém acende uma lucerna, e a põe em lugar escondido, nem debaixo do alqueire, mas sobre o candelabro, para que os que entram vejam a luz. | 33 No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. |
| 34 O teu olho é a lucerna do teu corpo. Se o teu olho for puro, todo o teu corpo terá luz; se, porém, for mau, também o teu corpo estará nas trevas. | 34 The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. |
| 35 Vê, pois, que a luz que está em ti não seja trevas. | 35 Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. |
| 36 Se, pois, o teu corpo for todo lúcido, sem ter parte alguma escura, todo ele será luminoso, e iluminar-te-á como uma lâmpada resplandecente." | 36 If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light. |
| 37 Enquanto Jesus falava, um fariseu convidou-o a ir jantar com ele. Tendo entrado, pôs-se à mesa. | 37 And as he spake, a certain Pharisee besought him to dine with him: and he went in, and sat down to meat. |
| 38 Ora o fariseu estranhou que ele não se tivesse lavado antes de comer. | 38 And when the Pharisee saw it, he marvelled that he had not first washed before dinner. |
| 39 Mas o Senhor disse-lhe: "Agora vós os fariseus limpais o que está por fora do vaso e do prato; mas o vosso interior está cheio de rapina e de iniquidade. | 39 And the Lord said unto him, Now do ye Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness. |
| 40 Néscios, quem fez o que está de fora, não fez também o que está por dentro? | 40 Ye fools, did not he that made that which is without make that which is within also? |
| 41 Dai contudo esmola segundo os vossos meios, e tudo será puro para vós. | 41 But rather give alms of such things as ye have; and, behold, all things are clean unto you. |
| 42 Mas ai de vós, fariseus, que pagais o dízimo da hortelã, da arruda, de toda a casta de ervas, e desprezais a justiça e o amor de Deus! Era necessário praticar estas coisas, mas não omitir aquelas. | 42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. |
| 43 Ai de vós, fariseus, que gostais de ter as primeiras cadeiras nas sinagogas, e as saudações nas praças! | 43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. |
| 44 Ai de vós, porque sois como os sepulcros que não se vêem, e sobre os quais se anda sem saber!" | 44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. |
| 45 Então um dos doutores da lei, tomando a palavra, disse-lhe: "Mestre, falando assim, também nos ofendes a nós." | 45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. |
| 46 Jesus respondeu-lhe: "Ai de vós também, doutores da lei, porque carregais os homens de pesos que não podem suportar, e vós nem com um dedo vosso lhe tocais a carga! | 46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. |
| 47 Ai de vós, que edificais sepulcros aos profetas, e foram vossos pais que lhes deram a morte! | 47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. |
| 48 Por certo dais a conhecer que aprovais as obras de vossos pais; porque eles os mataram, e vós edificais os seus sepulcros. | 48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. |
| 49 Por isso disse a sabedoria de Deus: Mandar-lhes-ei profetas e apóstolos, e eles darão a morte a uns, e perseguirão outros, | 49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: |
| 50 para que a esta geração se peça conta do sangue de todos os profetas, derramado desde o principio do mundo, | 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; |
| 51 desde o sangue de Abel até ao sangue de Zacarias, que foi morto entre o altar e o templo. Sim, eu vos digo que será pedida conta disto a esta geração. | 51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. |
| 52 Ai de vós, doutores da lei, que usurpastes a chave da ciência, e nem entrastes vós, nem deixastes entrar os que queriam entrar!" | 52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. |
| 53 Dizendo-lhes ele estas coisas, começaram os fariseus e doutores da lei a insistir fortemente, e a importuná-lo com muitas perguntas, | 53 And as he said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: |
| 54 armando-lhe laços, e buscando ocasião de lhe apanharem da boca alguma palavra para o acusarem. | 54 Laying wait for him, and seeking to catch something out of his mouth, that they might accuse him. |
