| 1 O reino dos céus é semelhante a um pai de família que, ao romper da manhã, saiu a contratar operários para sua vinha. | 1 'Now the kingdom of Heaven is like a landowner going out at daybreak to hire workers for his vineyard. |
| 2 Tendo justado com os operários um dinheiro por dia, mandou-os para a sua vinha. | 2 He made an agreement with the workers for one denarius a day and sent them to his vineyard. |
| 3 Tendo saído cerca da terceira hora, viu outros, que estavam na praça ociosos, | 3 Going out at about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the market place |
| 4 e disse-lhes: Ide vós também, para a minha vinha, e dar-vos-ei o que for justo. | 4 and said to them, "You go to my vineyard too and I wil give you a fair wage." |
| 5 Eles foram. Saiu outra vez cerca da hora sexta e da nona, e fez o mesmo. | 5 So they went. At about the sixth hour and again at about the ninth hour, he went out and did the same. |
| 6 Cerca da undécima, saiu, e encontrou outros que estavam sem fazer nada, e disse-Ihes: Porque estais aqui todo o dia sem trabalhar? | 6 Then at about the eleventh hour he went out and found more men standing around, and he said tothem, "Why have you been standing here idle all day?" |
| 7 Eles responderam: Porque ninguém nos assalariou. Ele disse-lhes: Ide vós também para a minha vinha. | 7 "Because no one has hired us," they answered. He said to them, "You go into my vineyard too." |
| 8 No fim da tarde o senhor da vinha disse ao seu mordomo: Chama os operários e paga-lhes o salário, começando pelos últimos até aos primeiros. | 8 In the evening, the owner of the vineyard said to his bailiff, "Call the workers and pay them theirwages, starting with the last arrivals and ending with the first." |
| 9 Tendo chegado os que tinham ido à hora undécima, recebeu cada um seu dinheiro. | 9 So those who were hired at about the eleventh hour came forward and received one denarius each. |
| 10 Chegando também os primeiros, julgaram que haviam de receber mais; porém, também eles receberam um dinheiro cada um. | 10 When the first came, they expected to get more, but they too received one denarius each. |
| 11 Mas, ao receberem, murmuravam contra o pai de família, | 11 They took it, but grumbled at the landowner saying, |
| 12 dizendo: Estes últimos trabalharam somente uma hora, e os igualaste connosco, que suportamos o peso do dia e do calor. | 12 "The men who came last have done only one hour, and you have treated them the same as us,though we have done a heavy day's work in al the heat." |
| 13 Porém, ele, respondendo a um deles, disse: Amigo, eu não te faço injustiça. Não ajustaste tu comigo um dinheiro? | 13 He answered one of them and said, "My friend, I am not being unjust to you; did we not agree on onedenarius? |
| 14 Toma o que é teu, e vai-te. Eu quero dar também a este último tanto como a ti. | 14 Take your earnings and go. I choose to pay the lastcomer as much as I pay you. |
| 15 Ou não me é lícito fazer dos meus bens o que quero? Porventura vês com maus olhos que eu sou bom? | 15 Have I no right to do what I like with my own? Why should you be envious because I am generous?" |
| 16 Assim os últimos são os primeiros, e os primeiros serão os últimos, porque são muitos os chamados, e poucos os escolhidos." | 16 Thus the last wil be first, and the first, last.' |
| 17 Subindo Jesus a Jerusalém, tomou de parte os doze discípulos, e disse-lhes pelo caminho: | 17 Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, and on the road he took the Twelve aside by themselves and saidto them, |
| 18 "Eis que subimos para Jerusalém, e o Filho do homem será entregue aos príncipes dos sacerdotes e aos escribas, e o condenarão à morte, | 18 'Look, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man is about to be handed over to the chiefpriests and scribes. They wil condemn him to death |
| 19 e o entregarão aos gentios para ser escarnecido, açoutado e crucificado, e ao terceiro dia ressuscitará." | 19 and will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified; and on the third dayhe wil be raised up again.' |
| 20 Então aproximou-se dele a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeu com seus filhos, prostrando-se, para lhe fazer um pedido. | 20 Then the mother of Zebedee's sons came with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low; |
| 21 Ele disse-lhe: "Que queres?" Ela respondeu: "Ordena que estes meus dois filhos se sentem no teu reino, um à tua direita e outro à tua esquerda." | 21 and he said to her, 'What is it you want?' She said to him, 'Promise that these two sons of mine maysit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom.' |
| 22 Jesus disse: "Não sabeis o que pedis. Podeis vós beber o cálice que eu hei-de beber?" Eles responderam-lhe: "Podemos." | 22 Jesus answered, 'You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going todrink?' They replied, 'We can.' |
| 23 Disse-lhes: "Efectivamente habeis de beber o meu cálice, mas, quanto a estardes sentados à minha direita ou à esquerda, não pertence a mim conceder-vo-lo; será para aqueles, para quem está reservado por meu Pai." | 23 He said to them, 'Very wel ; you shal drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left,these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been al otted by my Father.' |
| 24 Os outros dez, ouvindo isto, indignaram-se contra os dois irmãos. | 24 When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers. |
| 25 Mas Jesus chamou-os e disse-Ihes: "Vós sabeis que os príncipes das nações as subjugam e que os grandes as governam com autoridade. | 25 But Jesus cal ed them to him and said, 'You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them,and great men make their authority felt. |
| 26 Não será assim entre vós, mas todo o que quiser ser entre vós o maior, seja vosso servo, | 26 Among you this is not to happen. No; anyone who wants to become great among you must be yourservant, |
| 27 e o que quiser ser entre vós o primeiro, seja vosso escravo. | 27 and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave, |
| 28 Assim como o Filho do homem não veio para ser servido, mas para servir e dar a sua vida para redenção de muitos." | 28 just as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.' |
| 29 Saindo ele de Jericó, seguiu-o muita gente. | 29 As they left Jericho a large crowd fol owed him. |
| 30 Eis que dois cegos, que estavam sentados junto à estrada, ouviram dizer que Jesus passava, e puseram-se a gritar: "Senhor, Filho de David, tem piedade de nós! | 30 And now there were two blind men sitting at the side of the road. When they heard that it was Jesuswho was passing by, they shouted, 'Lord! Have pity on us, son of David.' |
| 31 O povo repreendia-os para que se calassem. Eles, porém, cada vez gritavam mais: "Senhor, Filho de David, tem piedade de nós!" | 31 And the crowd scolded them and told them to keep quiet, but they only shouted the louder, 'Lord!Have pity on us, son of David.' |
| 32 Jesus parou, chamou-os e disse: "Que quereis que eu vos faça?" | 32 Jesus stopped, cal ed them over and said, 'What do you want me to do for you?' |
| 33 "Senhor, responderam eles, queremos que se abram os nossos olhos!" | 33 They said to him, 'Lord, let us have our sight back.' |
| 34 Jesus, compadecido, tocou-lhes os olhos, e no mesmo instante recuperaram a vista e o seguiram. | 34 Jesus felt pity for them and touched their eyes, and at once their sight returned and they fol owedhim. |
