| 1 Seis dias depois, tomou Jesus consigo Pedro, Tiago e João, seu irmão, e levou-os aparte a um alto monte, | 1 After six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. |
| 2 e transfigurou-se diante deles. O seu rosto ficou refulgente como o sol, e as suas vestiduras tornaram-se luminosas de brancas que estavam. | 2 And he was transfigured before them; his face shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light. |
| 3 Eis que lhes apareceram Moisés e Elias, falando com ele. | 3 And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, conversing with him. |
| 4 Pedro, tomando a palavra, disse a Jesus: "Senhor, bom é nós estarmos aqui; se queres, farei aqui três tabernáculos, um para ti, um para Moisés, e um para Elias." | 4 Then Peter said to Jesus in reply, "Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." |
| 5 Estando ele ainda a falar, eis que uma nuvem resplandecente os envolveu; e saiu da nuvem uma voz que dizia: 'Este é o meu Filho dilecto em quem pus toda a minha complacência; ouvi-o." | 5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud cast a shadow over them, then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." |
| 6 Ouvindo isto, os discípulos caíram de bruços, e tiveram grande medo. | 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. |
| 7 Porém, Jesus, aproximou-se deles, tocou-os e disse-Ihes: "Levantai-vos, não temais." | 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, "Rise, and do not be afraid." |
| 8 Eles, então, levantando os olhos, não viram ninguém, excepto só Jesus. | 8 And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. |
| 9 Quando desciam do monte, Jesus fez-lhes a seguinte proibição: "Não digais a ninguém o que vistes, até que o Filho do homem ressuscite dos mortos." | 9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, "Do not tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead." |
| 10 Os discípulos perguntaram-lhe: "Porque dizem, pois, os escribas que Elias deve vir primeiro?" | 10 Then the disciples asked him, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" |
| 11 Ele respondeu-lhes: "Elias certamente há-de vir (antes da minha segunda vinda), e restabelecerá todas as coisas. | 11 He said in reply, "Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; |
| 12 Digo-vos, porém, que Elias já veio, e não o reconheceram, antes fizeram dele o que quiseram. Assim também o Filho do homem há-de padecer às suas mãos. " | 12 but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands." |
| 13 Então os discípulos compreenderam que lhes tinha falado de João Baptista. | 13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist. |
| 14 Tendo ido para junto do povo, aproximou-se dele um homem que se lançou de joelhos diante dele, | 14 When they came to the crowd a man approached, knelt down before him, |
| 15 dizendo: "Senhor, tem piedade de meu filho, porque é lunático e sofre muito; pois muitas vezes cai no fogo, e muitas na água. | 15 and said, "Lord, have pity on my son, for he is a lunatic and suffers severely; often he falls into fire, and often into water. |
| 16 Apresentei-o a teus discípulos, e não o puderam curar." | 16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not cure him." |
| 17 Jesus respondeu: "Ó geração incrédula e perversa, até quando hei-de estar convosco? Até quando vos hei-de suportar? Trazei-mo cá." | 17 Jesus said in reply, "O faithless and perverse generation, how long will I be with you? How long will I endure you? Bring him here to me." |
| 18 Jesus ameaçou o demônio, e este saiu do jovem, o qual, desde aquele momento, ficou curado. | 18 Jesus rebuked him and the demon came out of him, and from that hour the boy was cured. |
| 19 Então os discípulos aproximaram-se de Jesus, em particular, e disseram-lhe: "Porque não pudemos nós lançá-lo fora? | 19 Then the disciples approached Jesus in private and said, "Why could we not drive it out?" |
| 20 Jesus disse-lhes: Por causa da vossa falta de fé. Porque na verdade vos digo que, se tiverdes fé como um grão de mostarda, direis a este monte: Passa daqui para acolá, e ele passará, e nada vos será impossível. | 20 He said to them, "Because of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." |

| 22 Enquanto andavam pela Galileia, Jesus disse-Ihes: "O Filho do homem será entregue às mãos dos homens, | 22 As they were gathering in Galilee, Jesus said to them, "The Son of Man is to be handed over to men, |
| 23 eles lhe darão a morte, e ressuscitará ao terceiro dia." E eles entristeceram-se em extremo. | 23 and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day." And they were overwhelmed with grief. |
| 24 Quando entraram em Cafarnaum, chegaram-se a Pedro os que recebiam o didracma (para o templo), e disseram-lhe: "Vosso Mestre não paga o didracma?" | 24 When they came to Capernaum, the collectors of the temple tax approached Peter and said, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?" |
| 25 Ele respondeu-lhes: "Sim." Quando Pedro entrou em casa, Jesus o preveniu, dizendo: "Que te parece, Simão? De quem recebem os reis da terra o tributo ou o censo? De seus filhos, ou dos estranhos?" | 25 "Yes," he said. When he came into the house, before he had time to speak, Jesus asked him, "What is your opinion, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take tolls or census tax? From their subjects or from foreigners?" |
| 26 Ele respondeu: "Dos estranhos." Disse-lhe Jesus: "Logo estão isentos os filhos. | 26 When he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him, "Then the subjects are exempt. |
| 27 Todavia, para que os não escandalizemos, vai ao mar e lança o anzol, e o primeiro peixe que subir, toma-o, e, abrindo-lhe a boca, acharás dentro um stater. Toma-o, e dá-lho por mim e por ti. | 27 But that we may not offend them, go to the sea, drop in a hook, and take the first fish that comes up. Open its mouth and you will find a coin worth twice the temple tax. Give that to them for me and for you." |
