| 1 Ao mesmo tempo o Senhor fez que ali houvesse um grande peixe para engolir Jonas; e Jonas esteve no ventre do peixe três dias e três noites. | 1 But the LORD sent a large fish, that swallowed Jonah; and he remained in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. |
| 2 Jonas fez oração ao Senhor seu Deus, do ventre do peixe. | 2 From the belly of the fish Jonah said this prayer to the LORD, his God: |
| 3 Disse: Clamei ao Senhor no meio da minha tribulação, e ele ouviu-me. Clamei do ventre do sepulcro, e tu ouviste a minha voz. | 3 Out of my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me; From the midst of the nether world I cried for help, and you heard my voice. |
| 4 Lançaste-me ao abismo, ao coração dos mares, e as correntes das águas me cercaram; todas as tuas vagas e todas as tuas ondas passaram por cima de mim. | 4 For you cast me into the deep, into the heart of the sea, and the flood enveloped me; All your breakers and your billows passed over me. |
| 5 E eu já dizia: Fui rejeitado de diante dos teus olhos; acaso verei ainda novamente o teu santo templo? | 5 Then I said, "I am banished from your sight! yet would I again look upon your holy temple." |
| 6 As águas me cercaram até ao pescoço, o abismo encerrou-me em si, as algas cercavam-me a cabeça. | 6 The waters swirled about me, threatening my life; the abyss enveloped me; seaweed clung about my head. |
| 7 Desci até às raízes dos montes; os ferrolhos da terra encerraram-me para sempre; tu, contudo, Senhor Deus meu, retiraste a minha vida da cova. | 7 Down I went to the roots of the mountains; the bars of the nether world were closing behind me forever, But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD, my God. |
| 8 Quando em mim desfalecia a minha alma, lembrei-me do Senhor; a minha oração chegou a ti, subindo até ao teu santo templo. | 8 When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; My prayer reached you in your holy temple. |
| 9 Os que se entregam aos ídolos vãos, abandonam a misericórdia (daquele que os teria livrado). | 9 Those who worship vain idols forsake their source of mercy. |
| 10 Eu, porém, te oferecerei sacrifícios com cânticos de louvor, cumprirei todos os votos que fiz. Do Senhor vem a salvação. | 10 But I, with resounding praise, will sacrifice to you; What I have vowed I will pay: deliverance is from the LORD. |
| 11 Então o Senhor mandou ao peixe, e este vomitou e Jonas na praia. | 11 Then the LORD commanded the fish to spew Jonah upon the shore. |
