| 1 ALEF. Como assim está sentada solitária, a cidade (antes) cheia de povo! Tornou-se como uma viúva grande entre as nações; a princesa (outrora) das províncias ficou sujeita ao tributo. | 1 How lonely sits the city that was full of people! How like a widow has she become, she that was great among the nations! She that was a princess among the cities has become a vassal. |
| 2 BET. Chora sem cessar durante a noite e as suas lágrimas inundam as suas faces; não há quem a console entre todos os que a amavam; todos os seus amigos a atraiçoaram, tornaram-se seus inimigos. | 2 She weeps bitterly in the night, tears on her cheeks; among all her lovers she has none to comfort her; all her friends have dealt treacherously with her, they have become her enemies. |
| 3 CHIMEL. Judá sofreu a deportação com grande miséria e pesada escravidão. Habita entre as nações, e não acha repouso; todos os seus perseguidores a põem em aperto, numa pungente angústia. | 3 Judah has gone into exile because of affliction and hard servitude; she dwells now among the nations, but finds no resting place; her pursuers have all overtaken her in the midst of her distress. |
| 4 DALET. Os caminhos de Sião estão de luto, porque não há mais quem venha às solenidades; todas as suas portas se acham destruídas, os seus sacerdotes gementes, as suas virgens desoladas, e ela oprimida de amargura. | 4 The roads to Zion mourn, for none come to the appointed feasts; all her gates are desolate, her priests groan; her maidens have been dragged away, and she herself suffers bitterly. |
| 5 HE. Os seus adversários prevaleceram, os seus inimigos prosperaram, porque o Senhor a atormentou por causa da multidão das suas iniquidades; os seus filhinhos foram levados para o cativeiro ante a face do opressor. | 5 Her foes have become the head, her enemies prosper, because the LORD has made her suffer for the multitude of her transgressions; her children have gone away, captives before the foe. |
| 6 VAU. Desterrou-se da filha de Sião toda a sua formosura; os seus príncipes ficaram sendo como carneiros, que não acham pastagens; foram caminhando desfalecidos diante do seu perseguidor. | 6 From the daughter of Zion has departed all her majesty. Her princes have become like harts that find no pasture; they fled without strength before the pursuer. |
| 7 ZAIN. Jerusalém recordou-se, nos dias da sua aflição e da sua vida errante, de todas as coisas apetecíveis, que tinha tido desde os dias antigos. Quando o seu povo cala debaixo da mão inimiga, sem haver quem lhe acudisse, os seus inimigos viram-na e fizeram escárnio da sua ruína. | 7 Jerusalem remembers in the days of her affliction and bitterness all the precious things that were hers from days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the foe, and there was none to help her, the foe gloated over her, mocking at her downfall. |
| 8 HET. Jerusalém cometeu um grande pecado tornou-se coisa impura. Todos os que a honravam, desprezam-na porque viram a sua nudez. Ela, gemendo, volta o rosto para o lado (confundida). | 8 Jerusalem sinned grievously, therefore she became filthy; all who honored her despise her, for they have seen her nakedness; yea, she herself groans, and turns her face away. |
| 9 TET. As suas impurezas mancharam suas vestes. (Entre os seus pecados) não pensava neste fim; foi pasmosamente abatida, sem ter consolador. Vê Senhor, a minha aflição, porque o inimigo está triunfante. | 9 Her uncleanness was in her skirts; she took no thought of her doom; therefore her fall is terrible, she has no comforter. "O LORD, behold my affliction, for the enemy has triumphed!" |
| 10 JOD. O inimigo lançou a mão a tudo o que ela tinha de precioso: ela viu os gentios entrar no seu santuário, (os gentios) acerca dos quais tu tinhas mandado que não entrassem na tua assembleia. | 10 The enemy has stretched out his hands over all her precious things; yea, she has seen the nations invade her sanctuary, those whom thou didst forbid to enter thy congregation. |
| 11 CAF. Todo o seu povo está gemendo, procurando pão; dão tudo o que têm de precioso a troco de alimento, para sustentar a vida. Vê Senhor, e considera o vilipêndio a que estou reduzida. | 11 All her people groan as they search for bread; they trade their treasures for food to revive their strength. "Look, O LORD, and behold, for I am despised." |
| 12 LAMED. Ó vós todos os que passais pelo caminho, atendei e vede se há dor semelhante à dor que me atormenta, com que o Senhor me afligiu no dia sua ardente cólera. | 12 "Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was brought upon me, which the LORD inflicted on the day of his fierce anger. |
| 13 MEM. Ele enviou, do alto, um fogo que consome os meus ossos; estendeu uma rede aos meus pés, fez-me cair para trás; lançou-me na desolação, na tristeza, todo o dia. | 13 "From on high he sent fire; into my bones he made it descend; he spread a net for my feet; he turned me back; he has left me stunned, faint all the day long. |
| 14 NUN. O jugo (ou castigo) das minhas maldades pesa sobre mim; com a sua mão foram elas enfelxadas e postas sobre o meu pescoço; enfraqueceu-se a minha força; o Senhor entregou-me a mãos a que não poderei resistir. | 14 "My transgressions were bound into a yoke; by his hand they were fastened together; they were set upon my neck; he caused my strength to fail; the Lord gave me into the hands of those whom I cannot withstand. |
| 15 SAMBC. O Senhor tirou todos os meus guerreiros do meio de mim; convocou contra mim um exército para destruir os meus jovens escolhidos. O Senhor pisou como em um lagar, a virgem, filha de Judá. | 15 "The LORD flouted all my mighty men in the midst of me; he summoned an assembly against me to crush my young men; the Lord has trodden as in a wine press the virgin daughter of Judah. |
| 16 AIN. Por isso eu choro, os meus olhos derramam lágrimas, porque se afastou de mim o consolador, que podia tornar-me a vida. Os meus filhos estão abatidos porque o inimigo prevaleceu. | 16 "For these things I weep; my eyes flow with tears; for a comforter is far from me, one to revive my courage; my children are desolate, for the enemy has prevailed." |
| 17 PE. Estendeu Sião as suas mãos, mas não há quem a console. O Senhor enviou contra Jacob os seus inimigos que o cercam; Jerusalém tornou-se para eles como uma coisa manchada (e repugnante). | 17 Zion stretches out her hands, but there is none to comfort her; the LORD has commanded against Jacob that his neighbors should be his foes; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them. |
| 18 SADB. Justo é o Senhor, porque fui rebelde aos seus preceitos. Ouvi, todos os povos, e vede a minha dor; as minhas virgens e os meus jovens foram para o cativeiro. | 18 "The LORD is in the right, for I have rebelled against his word; but hear, all you peoples, and behold my suffering; my maidens and my young men have gone into captivity. |
| 19 COF. Chamei os meus amigos, mas eles me enganaram; os meus sacerdotes e os meus anciães pereceram na cidade, quando buscavam alimento com que sustentassem a vida. | 19 "I called to my lovers but they deceived me; my priests and elders perished in the city, while they sought food to revive their strength. |
| 20 RES. Vê, Senhor, a minha angústia! Estremecem as minhas entranhas; conturbado está o meu coração dentro de mim mesma, porque tenho sido sempre rebelde. Fora, a espada faz estragos, e dentro há (fome que é) mortandade. | 20 "Behold, O LORD, for I am in distress, my soul is in tumult, my heart is wrung within me, because I have been very rebellious. In the street the sword bereaves; in the house it is like death. |
| 21 SIN. Ouvem os meus gemidos, mas não há quem me console! Todos os meus inimigos souberam a minha desventura, e alegraram-se com o que fizeste. Faze vir o dia que publicaste e (então) eles tornar-se-ão semelhantes a mim. | 21 "Hear how I groan; there is none to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that thou hast done it. Bring thou the day thou hast announced, and let them be as I am. |
| 22 TAU. Põe diante de ti toda a sua malícia e trata-os como me trataste por causa de todas as minhas iniquidades. Porque os meus gemidos são incessantes e o meu coração desfalece. | 22 "Let all their evil doing come before thee; and deal with them as thou hast dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my groans are many and my heart is faint." |
