Against the army of Pharaoh Neco, king of Egypt, which was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates by Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, son of Josiah, king of Judah: |

| 4 Aparelhai os cavalos e montai, cavaleiros! Ponde os elmos, açacalai as lanças, revesti-vos das couraças! | 4 Harness the horses, mount, charioteers! Fall in with your helmets; polish your spears, put on your breastplates. |
| 5 Mas que vejo? Vejo-os medrosos, voltar as costas. Os seus valentes derrotados, fogem precipitados, nem para trás olham. O terror cerca-os de todas as partes, diz o Senhor. | 5 What do I see? With broken ranks They fall back; their heroes are routed, They flee headlong without making a stand. Terror on every side, says the LORD! |
| 6 Não pode fugir o ágil, nem salvar-se o valente: para as bandas do Aquilão, junto ao rio Eufrates, vacilam, caem por terra. | 6 The swift cannot flee, nor the hero escape: There in the north, on the Euphrates' bank, they stumble and fall. |
| 7 Quem é este (exército) que sobe como o Nilo, como um rio de águas tumultuantes? | 7 Who is this that surges forward like the Nile, like rivers of billowing waters? |
| 8 É o Egito que sobe como o Nilo, como um rio de águas tumultuantes. Dizia: Subindo, cobrirei a terra, destruirei as cidades e os seus habitantes. | 8 Egypt surges like the Nile, like rivers of billowing waters. "I will surge forward," he says, "and cover the earth, destroying the city and its people. |

Faz-se uma imolação ao Senhor Deus dos exércitos na terra do Aquilão, junto ao rio Eufrates. | 10 But this is the day of the Lord GOD of hosts, a day of vengeance, vengeance on his foes! The sword devours, is sated, drunk with their blood: for the Lord GOD of hosts holds a slaughter feast in the northland, on the Euphrates. |

| 13 Palavra que o Senhor dirigiu ao profeta Jeremias sobre a vinda de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, para assolar a terra do Egito: | 13 The message which the LORD gave to the prophet Jeremiah concerning the advance of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, to attack the land of Egypt: |
| 14 Anunciai no Egito, publicai em Migdol, em Mênfis e em Tafnis. Dizei: Levanta-te, e prepara-te, porque a espada vai devorar o que está em volta de ti. | 14 Announce it in Egypt, publish it in Migdol, proclaim it in Memphis and Tahpanhes! Say: Take your stand, prepare yourselves, the sword has already devoured your neighbors. |

| 19 Prepara a tua bagagem para transmigrar, ó moradora do Egito, porque Mênfis será convertida num deserto, ficará devastada e despovoada. | 19 Pack your baggage for exile, capital city of daughter Egypt; Memphis shall become a desert, an empty ruin. |

| 23 Cortam as árvores do seu bosque, diz o Senhor, as quais não podem contar-se. São mais numerosos que gafanhotos, são inumeráveis. | 23 They cut down her forest, says the LORD, impenetrable though it be; More numerous than locusts, they cannot be counted. |
| 24 Confundida está a filha do Egito, entregue nas mãos dum povo do Aquilão. | 24 Disgraced is daughter Egypt, handed over to the people of the north. |
| 25 O Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel, disse: Eis que castigarei Amon de Nó, Faraó, o Egito, os seus deuses e os seus reis; Faraó e aqueles que confiam nele. | 25 The LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, has said: See! | 27 Mas tu não temas, servo meu Jacob, não te enchas de pavor, Israel, porque eu te livrarei da terra longínqua, e tirarei os teus descendentes do país onde estão cativos. Jacob voltará e viverá tranquilo e contente, sem haver quem o amedronte. | 27 But you, my servant Jacob, fear not; be not dismayed, O Israel. Behold, I will deliver you from the far-off land, your descendants, from their land of exile. Jacob shall again find rest, shall be tranquil and undisturbed. |
| 28 Não temas, servo meu Jacob, diz o Senhor, porque eu sou contigo. Hei-de consumir todas as nações, para as quais te desterrei; a ti, porém, não te consumirei, mas castigar-te-ei com medida, sem te deixar impune (como se fosses inocente). | 28 You, my servant Jacob, never fear, says the LORD, for I am with you; I will make an end of all the nations to which I have driven you, But of you I will not make an end: I will chastise you as you deserve, I will not let you go unpunished. |
