| 4 O Senhor enviou-vos desde manhã, todos os seus servos, os profetas, mas vós não ouvistes, nem inclinastes os vossos ouvidos para ouvir. | 4 Furthermore, Yahweh has untiringly sent you al his servants the prophets, but you have not listened orpaid attention). |
| 5 Dizia: Retirai-vos do vosso mau caminho, da perversidade das vossas obras e habitareis por todos os séculos na terra que vos deu o Senhor, a vós e a vossos pais, desde sempre. | 5 The message was this, "Turn back, each one of you, from your evil behaviour and your evil actions,and you wil go on living on the soil Yahweh long ago gave to you and your ancestors for ever. |
| 6 Não queirais ir atrás dos outros deuses, para os servirdes e adorardes; não me provoqueis à ira com as obras das vossas mãos, e eu não vos afligirei. | 6 (And do not fol ow other gods to serve and worship them, do not provoke me with things youyourselves have made, and then I shall not harm you.) |
| 7 Mas não me ouvistes, diz o Senhor, de modo que me haveis provocado à ira com as obras das vossas mãos, para vosso mal. | 7 But you have not listened to me (Yahweh declares, so that you have now provoked me with things youyourselves have made, and thus harmed yourselves)." |
| 8 Pelo que, assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos: Porque não ouvistes as minhas palavras, | 8 'So-this is what Yahweh Sabaoth says, "Since you have not listened to my words, |
| 9 vou mandar tomar todos os povos do Aquilão, diz o Senhor, (e levar) a meu servo Nabucodonosor rei de Babilônia; fá-los-ei vir contra esta terra e seus moradores, e contra todas as nações que a cercam. Destruí-los-ei e farei deles um objecto de horror, de ludíbrio e de vergonha eterna. | 9 I shal now send for al the families of the north (Yahweh declares, that is, for Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon, my servant) and bring them down on this country and its inhabitants (and on al these surroundingnations); I shal curse them with utter destruction and make them an object of horror, of scorn, and ruin them for ever. |
| 10 Farei cessar entre eles os gritos de júbilo, os gritos de alegria, os cantos do esposo e os cantos da esposa, o ruído da mó e a luz da lâmpada. | 10 From them I shall banish the shouts of rejoicing and mirth, the voices of bridegroom and bride, thesound of the handmil and the light of the lamp; |
| 11 Toda esta terra se tornará deserto e desolação, e estas nações servirão o rei de Babilônia durante setenta anos. | 11 and this whole country will be reduced to ruin and desolation, and these nations will be enslaved tothe king of Babylon for seventy years. |
| 12 Completos que forem os setenta anos, irei visitar o rei de Babilônia e aquela gente, diz o Senhor, para castigar a sua iniquidade, assim como a terra dos Caldeus, que transformarei numa eterna solidão. | 12 (But when the seventy years are over, I shall punish the king of Babylon and that nation, Yahwehdeclares, for the wrong they have done, that is, the country of the Chaldaeans, and make it desolate for ever), |
| 13 Farei vir sobre aquela terra todas as palavras, que tenho pronunciado contra ela, tudo o que está escrito neste livro, tudo quanto profetizou Jeremias contra todas as nações. | 13 and against that country I shal perform al the words with which I have threatened it, that is,everything written in this book." ' |
| 14 Com efeito estas serão também submetidas a muitas nações e reis poderosos; eu lhes darei segundo as suas obras, segundo as ações das suas mãos. | 14 What Jeremiah prophesied against al the nations. ('For these in their turn are to be enslaved topowerful nations and great kings, and I shal pay them back as their deeds and handiwork deserve.') |

| 16 Elas beberão, cambalearão, ficarão fora de si, à vista da espada, que enviarei contra elas. | 16 they wil drink and reel and lose their wits, because of the sword I am sending among them.' |
| 17 Tomei o copo da mão do Senhor e dei a beber a todas as nações, às quais o Senhor me enviou; | 17 I took the cup from Yahweh's hand and made al the nations to whom Yahweh sent me drink it |
| 18 A Jerusalém e às cidades de Judá, aos seus reis e aos seus príncipes, para fazer deles uma solidão, um pavor, um objecto de desprezo e de maldição, como hoje se vê; | 18 (Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, its kings and its chief men, to make them a ruin, an object ofhorror and derision and a curse, as is the case today): |
| 19 a Faraó, rei do Egito, aos seus servos, aos seus príncipes e a todo o seu povo, | 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, his officials, his chief men and al his people, |
| 20 assim como a todos os adventícios; a todos os reis da terra de Us, a todos os reis da terra dos Filisteus, a Ascalon, a Gaza, a Acaron, ao que resta de Azot, | 20 with the whole conglomeration of peoples there (al the kings of the country of Uz); al the kings of thecountry of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron and what is stil left of Ashdod; |
| 21 à Idumeia, a Moab e aos filhos de Amon; | 21 Edom, Moab and the Ammonites; |
| 22 a todos os reis de Tiro, a todos os reis de Sidónia e aos reis das ilhas que estão da banda de além do mar; | 22 (all) the kings of Tyre, (all) the kings of Sidon, the kings of the island across the sea; |
| 23 a Dedan, a Tema, a Buz e a todos os que rapam os cabelos das têmporas; | 23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, al the people with shaven temples; |
| 24 a todos os reis da Arábia, a todos os reis dos mestiços que habitam no deserto; | 24 al the kings of Arabia (and all the kings of the conglomeration of peoples) who live in the desert |
| 25 a todos os reis de Zambri, a todos os reis de Elam e a todos os reis dos Medos; | 25 (all the kings of Zimri), all the kings of Elam, and al the kings of Media; |
| 26 a todos os reis de Aquilão, aos de perto e aos de longe, um após outro, e a todos os reinos que estão sobre a face da terra. O rei de Sesac (ou Babilônia) beberá depois deles. | 26 al the kings of the north, near and far, one after another: in short, all the kingdoms on the face of theearth. (As for the king of Sheshak, he wil drink last of all.) |
| 27 Dir-lhes-ás: Assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel: Bebei, embriagai-vos, vomitai e caí, e não vos levanteis diante da espada que eu enviarei contra vós. | 27 'You wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth, the God of Israel, says this: Drink! Get drunk! Vomit! Fall,never to rise again, before the sword that I am sending among you!" |
| 28 Se não quiserem receber o copo da tua mão para beberem dele, lhes dirás: Assim fala o Senhor dos exércitos: Certamente o bebereis, | 28 If they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink, you wil say to them, "Yahweh Sabaoth saysthis: You must drink! |
| 29 porque, se pela cidade, onde o meu nome tem sido invocado, vou começar a castigar, à vista disto ficareis vós sem castigo? Não escapareis, porque eu desembainho já a minha espada contra todos os habitantes da terra, diz o Senhor dos exércitos. | 29 Look, for a start, I am bringing disaster on the city that bears my name, so are you likely to gounpunished? You certainly wil not go unpunished, for next I shal summon a sword against al the inhabitants ofthe land, Yahweh declares." |
| 30 Tu lhes profetizarás todas estas coisas, dir-lhes-ás: O Senhor ruge (como um leão) do alto, da sua santa morada faz ouvir a sua voz, ruge fortemente contra a sua morada, solta um grito semelhante ao dos pisadores de uvas contra todos os habitantes da terra, | 30 'For your part, you are to prophesy al these words to them. Say to them: "Yahweh roars from on high,he thunders from his holy dwel ing-place, loudly he roars at his own fold, shouts aloud like those who tread thegrape at all the inhabitants of the land. |
| 31 Chegou o estrondo até às extremidades da terra, porque o Senhor entra em juízo com as gentes, faz o julgamento de toda a carne; entrega os ímpios à espada. Oráculo do Senhor. | 31 The noise resounds to the remotest parts of the earth. For Yahweh is indicting the nations, arraigningal humanity for judgement; the wicked he assigns to the sword, Yahweh declares. |
| 32 Isto diz (também) o Senhor dos exércitos: Eis que passará a desgraça dum povo a outro, e uma grande tempestade sairá das extremidades da terra. | 32 Yahweh Sabaoth says this: Look, disaster is spreading from nation to nation, a mighty tempest isrising from the far ends of the earth. |
| 33 Aqueles que o Senhor entregar à morte naquele dia ficarão estendidos desde um a outro extremo da terra, não serão chorados, nem recolhidos, nem enterrados; como esterco jazerão sobre a face da terra. | 33 "Those slaughtered by Yahweh that day wil be scattered across the world from end to end. No dirgewil be raised for them; no one wil gather them or bury them; they will stay lying on the surface like dung. |
| 34 Uivai, pastores, gritai! Cobri-vos de cinza, vós que sois os chefes do rebanho, porque estão cumpridos os dias em que haveis de ser mortos; dispersar-vos-ei, e caireis como carneiros escolhidos. | 34 "Howl, shepherds, shriek, roll on the ground, you lords of the flock, for your days have come to beslaughtered and to be scattered, and like a choice vase you will fal . |
| 35 Os pastores não poderão escapar, não poderão salvar-se os chefes do rebanho. | 35 No refuge then for the shepherds, no escape for the lords of the flock! |
| 36 Ouvi os gritos dos pastores, o alarido dos chefes do rebanho, porque o Senhor destruiu os seus pastos. | 36 Listen! A shriek from the shepherds, a howl from the lords of the flock! For Yahweh has laid theirpasture waste, |
| 37 As amenas campinas são devastadas pelo furor da ira do Senhor. | 37 the peaceful sheepfolds are reduced to silence owing to Yahweh's furious anger. |
| 38 (O Senhor) deixou, como leão, o seu retiro; em ermo foi convertida a terra deles, pelos golpes da espada destruidora, pela ardente indignação do Senhor. | 38 The lion has left his lair and their country is a wasteland now, owing to the devastating fury, owing tohis furious anger." ' |
