| 1 Foi-me dirigida a palavra do Senhor nos termos seguintes: | 1 This message came to me from the LORD: |
| 2 Não tomarás mulher, nem terás filhos nem filhas neste lugar. | 2 Do not marry any woman; you shall not have sons or daughters in this place, |
| 3 Porque isto diz o Senhor acerca dos filhos e das filhas, que nascerem neste lugar, acerca das mães que os conceberem e acerca dos pais que os gerarem nesta terra: | 3 for thus says the LORD concerning the sons and daughters who will be born in this place, the mothers who will give them birth, the fathers who will beget them in this land: |
| 4 Morrerão de morte ruim, não serão chorados nem enterrados, jazerão como esterco sobre a face da terra, serão consumidos à espada e à fome, e os seus cadáveres servirão de pasto às aves do céu e aos animais da terra. | 4 Of deadly disease they shall die. Unlamented and unburied they will lie like dung on the ground. Sword and famine will make an end of them, and their corpses will become food for the birds of the sky and the beasts of the field. |
| 5 Com efeito, assim fala o Senhor: Não entres na casa de luto, não vás chorar à casa onde se chora, nem os consoles, porque eu retirei deste povo a minha paz, diz o Senhor, o meu favor e a minha misericórdia. | 5 Go not into a house of mourning, the LORD continued: go not there to lament or offer sympathy. For I have withdrawn my friendship from this people, says the LORD, my kindness and my pity. |
| 6 Morrerão grandes e pequenos nesta terra; não serão sepultados, nem chorados; não se farão por eles incisões (em sinal de luto), nem por eles se raparão os cabelos. | 6 They shall die, the great and the lowly, in this land, and shall go unburied and unlamented. No one will gash himself or shave his head for them. |
| 7 Não se repartirá o pão para consolar o que chora sobre um morto; não se dará a beber o copo da consolação, para consolar os que choram a perda de seu pai e de sua mãe. | 7 They will not break bread with the bereaved to console them in their bereavement; they will not give them the cup of consolation to drink over the death of father or mother. |
| 8 Não entres numa casa de banquete, para te sentares tanto a comer como a beber com eles, | 8 Enter not a house where people are celebrating, to sit with them eating and drinking. |
| 9 porque isto diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Vou desterrar deste lugar, a vossos olhos e em vossos dias, a voz de júbilo, a voz de alegria, a voz (ou cântico) do esposo e a voz da esposa. | 9 For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Before your very eyes and during your lifetime I will silence from this place the cry of joy and the cry of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride. |
| 10 Se, quando anunciares a este povo todas estas coisas, te disserem: Por que pronunciou o Senhor contra nós todo este grande mal? Que iniquidade é a nossa? Que pecado é o que cometemos contra o Senhor nosso Deus? | 10 When you proclaim all these words to this people and they ask you: "Why has the LORD pronounced all these great evils against us? What is our crime? What sin have we committed against the LORD, our God?"-- |
| 11 - responder-lhes-ás: É porque vossos pais me abandonaram, diz o Senhor, e foram após os deuses estranhos, que serviram a minha lei. | 11 you shall answer them: It is because your fathers have forsaken me, says the LORD, and followed strange gods, which they served and worshiped; but me they have forsaken, and my law they have not observed. |
| 12 Quanto a vós, ainda fizestes pior que vossos pais; cada um vai atrás da dureza do seu mau coração, para me não dar ouvidos. | 12 And you have done worse than your fathers. Here you are, every one of you, walking in the hardness of his evil heart instead of listening to me. |
| 13 Expulsar-vos-ei desta terra para uma terra que não conheceis, nem vós, nem vossos pais; servireis ali a deuses estranhos, de dia e de noite, porque não vos farei mercê. | 13 I will cast you out of this land into a land that neither you nor your fathers have known; there you can serve strange gods day and night, because I will not grant you my mercy. |
| 14 Dias virão, diz o Senhor, em que não se dirá mais: Vive o Senhor, que tirou os filhos de Israel da terra do Egito, - | 14 However, days will surely come, says the LORD, when it will no longer be said, "As the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites out of Egypt"; |
| 15 mas sim: Vive o Senhor, que tirou os filhos de Israel da terra do aquilão e de todas as terras, por onde os havia dispersado. Fá-los-ei voltar a esta sua terra, que dei a seus pais. | 15 but rather, "As the LORD lives, who brought the Israelites out of the land of the north and out of all the countries to which he had banished them." I will bring them back to the land which I gave their fathers. |
| 16 Eis que mandarei muitos pescadores, diz o Senhor, e eles os pescarão: depois disto, enviarei muitos caçadores, e caçá-los-ão de toda a montanha, de todo o outeiro e das cavernas dos penhascos. | 16 Look! I will send many fishermen, says the LORD, to catch them. After that, I will send many hunters to hunt them out from every mountain and hill and from the clefts of the rocks. |
| 17 Com efeito, os meus olhos estão postos sobre todos os seus caminhos: eles não escapam à minha presença, e não se encobre a meus olhos a sua iniquidade. | 17 For my eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor does their guilt escape my view. |
| 18 Primeiramente pagarei em dobro as suas maldades e pecados, porque profanaram a minha terra com os cadáveres dos seus ídolos, encheram a minha herança com as suas abominações. | 18 I will at once repay them double for their crime and their sin of profaning my land with their detestable corpses of idols, and filling my heritage with their abominations. |
| 19 Senhor, minha força, minha cidadela, meu refúgio no dia da tribulação, a ti virão as gentes desde as extremidades da terra e dirão: Verdadeiramente nossos pais só possuíram a mentira, coisas vãs que de nada servem. | 19 O LORD, my strength, my fortress, my refuge in the day of distress! To you will the nations come from the ends of the earth, and say, "Mere frauds are the heritage of our fathers, empty idols of no use." |
| 20 É possível que um homem faça deuses para si? Mas, então, eles não são deuses. | 20 Can man make for himself gods? These are not gods. |
| 21 Pelo que eu lhes mostrarei, esta vez, lhes mostrarei a minha mão e o meu poder, e saberão que o meu nome é Senhor. | 21 Look, then: I will give them knowledge; this time I will leave them in no doubt Of my strength and my power: they shall know that my name is LORD. |
