| 1 Aconteceu que, tendo ouvido isto, o rei Ezequias rasgou as suas vestes, cobriu-se de saco e entrou na casa do Senhor. | 1 When King Hezekiah heard it, he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the LORD. |
| 2 Mandou Eliacim, mordomo-mor da sua casa, Sobna, secretário, e os mais velhos dentre os sacerdotes, cobertos de saco, ao profeta Isaías, filho de Amós, | 2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the senior priests, clothed with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz. |
| 3 os quais lhe disseram: Eis o que diz Ezequias: Este dia é um dia de tribulação, de castigo e de opróbrio, porque os filhos estão prestes a nascer, porém não há força na mãe para os dar à luz. | 3 They said to him, "Thus says Hezekiah, 'This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth. |
| 4 O Senhor teu Deus talvez terá ouvido as palavras de Rabsaces, que foi enviado pelo rei dos Assírios, seu amo, para blasfemar do Deus vivo, e talvez o castigue pelas palavras que o Senhor teu Deus ouviu. Eleva, pois, a tua oração pelos restos (do povo) que ainda subsistem. | 4 It may be that the LORD your God heard the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words which the LORD your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.'" |
| 5 Os servos do rei Ezequias foram ter com Isaías. | 5 When the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah, |
| 6 Isaías disse-lhes: Direis ao vosso amo o seguinte: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Não temas as palavras que ouviste, com as quais os servos do rei dos Assírios me ultrajaram. | 6 Isaiah said to them, "Say to your master, 'Thus says the LORD: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have reviled me. |
| 7 Vou dar-lhe um espírito tal que, a uma nova que ele há-de ouvir, voltará para a sua terra, e fá-lo-ei cair morto à espada na sua terra. | 7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, so that he shall hear a rumor, and return to his own land; and I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.'" |
| 8 Rabsaces voltou ao encontro do rei dos Assírios, posto em campanha contra Lobna, quando ouviu dizer que ele se tinha retirado de Laquis. | 8 The Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah; for he had heard that the king had left Lachish. |
| 9 Então (o rei da Assíria) recebeu uma nova a respeito de Taraca, rei da Etiópia. Disseram-lhe: Ele pôs-se em marcha, a fim de pelejar contra ti. Ao ouvir (esta nova), enviou mensageiros a Ezequias, dizendo: | 9 Now the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, "He has set out to fight against you." And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, |
| 10 Isto direis a Ezequias, rei de Judá, quando lhe falardes: Não te engane o teu Deus, em quem confias, dizendo: Não será entregue Jerusalém na mão do rei dos Assírios. | 10 "Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: 'Do not let your God on whom you rely deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. |
| 11 Tens ouvido o que os reis dos Assírios fizeram a todas as terras, que destruíram. (Julgas que) poderás livrar-te? | 11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, destroying them utterly. And shall you be delivered? |
| 12 Porventura os deuses das gentes livraram aqueles povos que meus pais destruíram: Gozam, Haram, Resef e os filhos de Eden, que estavam em Télasar? | 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations which my fathers destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Tel-assar? |
| 13 Onde estão o rei de Hamath, o rei de Arfad, o rei da cidade de Sefarvaim, de Ana e de Ava? | 13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?" |
| 14 Ezequias tomou a carta da mão dos embaixadores e leu-a; depois subiu à casa do Senhor e estendeu-a diante do Senhor. | 14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. |
| 15 Ezequias orou ao Senhor, dizendo: | 15 And Hezekiah prayed to the LORD: |
| 16 Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel, que estás sentado sobre os querubins, só tu és o Deus de todos os reinos da terra, tu o que fizeste o céu e a terra. | 16 "O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, who art enthroned above the cherubim, thou art the God, thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. |
| 17 Inclina, Senhor, o teu ouvido e escuta; abre, Senhor, os teus olhos e vê. Ouve todas as palavras de Senaquerib, as quais ele mandou dizer para ultrajar o Deus vivo. | 17 Incline thy ear, O LORD, and hear; open thy eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. |
| 18 É verdade, Senhor, que os reis dos Assírios assolaram aquelas nações e os seus territórios, | 18 Of a truth, O LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, |
| 19 e entregaram ao fogo os seus deuses, porque eles não eram deuses, mas obras das mãos dos homens, pau e pedra; (por isso) os despedaçaram. | 19 and have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone; therefore they were destroyed. |
| 20 Agora, Senhor nosso Deus, salva-nos da sua mão, e conheçam todos os reinos da terra que só tu és o Senhor (o Deus verdadeiro). | 20 So now, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou alone art the LORD." |
| 21 E Isaías, filho de Amós, mandou dizer a Ezequias: Eis o que diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: Quanto ao que me pediste acerca de Senaquerib, rei dos Assírios, | 21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, |
| 22 eis a palavra que contra ele pronunciou o Senhor: Ela te despreza e te escarnece, a virgem, filha de Sião; por detrás de ti abana a cabeça, a filha de Jerusalém, (em sinal de escárnio). | 22 this is the word that the LORD has spoken concerning him: 'She despises you, she scorns you-- the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you-- the daughter of Jerusalem. |
| 23 A quem insultaste (ó rei orgulhoso) e ultrajaste, contra quem levantaste a voz e elevaste os olhos insolentes? Contra o Santo de Israel. | 23 'Whom have you mocked and reviled? Against whom have you raised your voice and haughtily lifted your eyes? Against the Holy One of Israel! |
| 24 Por meio dos teus servos ultrajaste o Senhor, dizendo: Eu, com a multidão dos meus carros de guerra, subi ao alto dos montes, aos cabeços do Líbano; cortei os mais elevados cedros, os mais formosos ciprestes, subi aos mais altos cumes, aos mais espessos bosques. | 24 By your servants you have mocked the Lord, and you have said, With my many chariots I have gone up the heights of the mountains, to the far recesses of Lebanon; I felled its tallest cedars, its choicest cypresses; I came to its remotest height, its densest forest. |
| 25 Eu cavei e bebi as suas águas, e sequei com a planta dos meus pés todos os rios do Egito. | 25 I dug wells and drank waters, and I dried up with the sole of my foot all the streams of Egypt. |
| 26 Porventura não ouviste dizer o que, desde há muito tenho feito e que desde os tempos antigos planeei? Desde os dias antigos formei este projeto, e agora o executo. Assim aconteceu que arruinaste cidades fortificadas, cujos | 26 'Have you not heard that I determined it long ago? I planned from days of old what now I bring to pass, that you should make fortified cities crash into heaps of ruins, |
| 27 habitantes, de mãos débeis, tremeram e ficaram confundidos; tornaram-se como a erva dos campos, como a relva dos prados, como a erva dos telhados, como o trigo que seca antes de amadurecer. | 27 while their inhabitants, shorn of strength, are dismayed and confounded, and have become like plants of the field and like tender grass, like grass on the housetops, blighted before it is grown. |
| 28 Eu conheço (bem) a tua habitação, a tua saída e a tua entrada, o teu furor insensato contra mim. | 28 'I know your sitting down and your going out and coming in, and your raging against me. |
| 29 Porque estás furioso contra mim, e porque a tua soberba subiu até aos meus ouvidos, eu te porei pois uma argola no nariz, um freio nos lábios, e te farei voltar pelo caminho por onde vieste. | 29 Because you have raged against me and your arrogance has come to my ears, I will put my hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back on the way by which you came.' |
| 30 Tu, porém, (ó Ezequias) terás isto por sinal: Comer-se-á este ano do que nasce espontaneamente, e no segundo ano do que crescer sem sementeira; porém no terceiro ano semeareis e segareis, plantareis vinhas e comereis o fruto delas. | 30 "And this shall be the sign for you: this year eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs of the same; then in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit. |
| 31 O que ficar salvo da casa de Judá, o que dela restar, lançará raízes para baixo, e produzirá frutos para cima; | 31 And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward; |
| 32 porque de Jerusalém sairão os restos (do meu povo), e do monte Sião os que se hão-de salvar. Isto fará o zelo do Senhor dos exércitos. | 32 for out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this. |
| 33 Por isso, eis o que diz o Senhor a respeito do rei dos Assírios: Ele não entrará nesta cidade, nem atirará contra ela setas, nem virá para ela com o seu escudo, nem a rodeará de trincheiras. | 33 "Therefore thus says the LORD concerning the king of Assyria: He shall not come into this city, or shoot an arrow there, or come before it with a shield, or cast up a siege mound against it. |
| 34 Pelo caminho por onde veio, por esse voltará, e não entrará nesta cidade, diz o Senhor. | 34 By the way that he came, by the same he shall return, and he shall not come into this city, says the LORD. |
| 35 Protegerei esta cidade para a salvar, por causa de mim e por causa de Davide meu servo. | 35 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David." |
| 36 Saiu o anjo do Senhor e feriu cento e oitenta e cinco mil homens no campo dos Assírios. Quando surgiu a manhã, todos estavam reduzidos a cadáveres. | 36 And the angel of the LORD went forth, and slew a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, these were all dead bodies. |
| 37 Retirou-se então dali Senaquerib, rei dos Assírios, foi-se embora e habitou em Nínive. | 37 Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went home and dwelt at Nineveh. |
| 38 E aconteceu que, enquanto ele adorava no templo o seu deus Nesroch, Adrameleeh e Sarasar, seus filhos, o mataram à espada e fugiram para a terra de Ararat. Reinou seu filho Assaradão em seu lugar. | 38 And as he was worshiping in the house of Nisroch his god, Adrammelech and Sharezer, his sons, slew him with the sword, and escaped into the land of Ararat. And Esar-haddon his son reigned in his stead. |
