| 1 Este seu tempo está próximo a vir, os seus dias não se prolongarão. O Senhor terá compaixão de Jacob, terá ainda como escolhido a Israel. De novo os (filhos de Israel) estabelecerá na sua terra; agregar-se-á a eles o estrangeiro, incorporar-se-á na casa de Jacob. | 1 Yahweh wil have pity on Jacob, he wil choose Israel once more and resettle them on their native soil.Foreigners will join them, attaching themselves to the House of Jacob. |
| 2 Tomá-los-ão (amigàvelmente) os povos, e conduzi-los-ão ao seu país. Possuí-los-á a casa de Israel na terra do Senhor como servos e como servas. Farão cativos aqueles que os tinham cativado, e sujeitarão os seus opressores. | 2 Peoples wil take them and escort them home, and the House of Israel wil take them as slaves, menand women on Yahweh's soil. They wil enslave those who enslaved them and wil master their oppressors. |
| 3 Naquele tempo em que o Senhor te tiver dado descanso, depois do teu trabalho, da tua opressão, da dura servidão, a que estiveste sujeito, | 3 When that day comes, and Yahweh gives you rest from your suffering and torment and the grimservitude to which you have been subjected, |
| 4 entoarás este cântico contra o rei de Babilônia. Dirás: Como acabou o tirano, como terminou a opressão? | 4 you wil recite this satire on the king of Babylon and say: 'How did the tyrant end? How did hisarrogance end? |
| 5 O Senhor despedaçou o bastão dos ímpios, a vara dos dominadores, | 5 Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked, the sceptre of rulers, |
| 6 o que na sua indignação feria os povos sem cessar, o que sujeitava as nações no seu furor, o que cruelmente as perseguia. Toda a terra está em descanso e em paz, em cantos de alegria. | 6 furiously lashing peoples with continual blows, angrily hammering nations, pursuing without respite. |
| 7 The whole world is at rest and calm, shouts of joy resounding, |
| 8 Até os ciprestes e os cedros do Líbano exultaram com a tua perda. Desde que morreste (dizem eles), não subirá quem nos corte. | 8 the cypresses, the cedars of Lebanon, rejoice aloud at your fate, "Now that you have been laid low, noone comes up to fell us." |

| 11 A tua glória foi abatida até à morada dos mortos, ao som das tuas harpas; debaixo de ti se estende por cama a podridão, e a tua coberta são os vermes! | 11 Your pride has been flung down to Sheol with the music of your lyres; under you a mattress ofmaggots, over you a blanket of worms. |
| 12 Como caíste do céu, ó astro brilhante, filho da aurora? Como caíste por terra, tu que ferias as nações? | 12 How did you come to fal from the heavens, Daystar, son of Dawn? How did you come to be thrown tothe ground, conqueror of nations? |
| 13 Tu, que dizias no teu coração: Subirei ao céu, estabelecerei o meu trono acima dos astros de Deus, sentar-me-ei sobre o monte da assembleia (dos deuses), na extremidade do aquilão: | 13 You who used to think to yourself: I shal scale the heavens; higher than the stars of God I shall setmy throne. I shal sit on the Mount of Assembly far away to the north. |
| 14 sobrepujarei a altura das nuvens, serei semelhante ao Altíssimo. | 14 I shal climb high above the clouds, I shal rival the Most High." |
| 15 E contudo foste precipitado na morada dos mortos, no mais profundo dos abismos. | 15 Now you have been flung down to Sheol, into the depths of the abyss! |
| 16 Os que te virem inclinarão-se para ti, e te contemplarão, dizendo: Porventura é este aquele homem, que punha a terra em confusão, que fazia estremecer os reinos, | 16 'When they see you, they will scrutinise you and consider what you have become, "Is this the manwho made the world tremble, who overthrew kingdoms? |
| 17 que fazia do mundo um deserto, que destruía as cidades, e que não abria (nunca) a prisão aos seus cativos? | 17 He made the world a desert, he level ed cities and never freed his prisoners to go home." |
| 18 Todos os reis das nações, todos, repousam com glória, cada um em sua morada. | 18 Al other kings of nations, al of them, lie honourably, each in his own tomb; |
| 19 Mas tu foste atirado para longe do teu sepulcro, como um tronco inútil e manchado, confundido com aqueles que foram mortos à espada, e precipitados pelas ladeiras rochosas do abismo, como um cadáver que se calca. | 19 but you have been thrown away, unburied, like a loathsome branch, covered with heaps of the slainpierced by the sword who fal on the rocks of the abyss like trampled carrion. |

Que não se levantem para conquistar a terra. que não encham de cidades a face do mundo. | 21 Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their father! Never again must they rise to conquer theworld and cover the face of the earth with their cities. |
| 22 Levantar-me-ei contra eles, declara o Senhor dos exércitos, destruirei o nome de Babilônia e as suas relíquias, toda a raça e o seu renovo, declara o Senhor, | 22 'I wil rise against them, declares Yahweh Sabaoth, and deprive Babylon of name, remnant, offspringand posterity, declares Yahweh. |

Destruirei na minha terra o Assírio, e sobre os meus montes o calcarei aos pés; será tirado a Israel o seu jugo, e o seu peso se descarregará dos seus ombros. | 25 'I shal break Assyria in my country, I shal trample on him on my mountains. Then his yoke wil slip offthem, his burden wil slip from their shoulders.' |
| 26 Eis o desígnio que eu formei acerca de toda a terra (referida), e eis a mão que está levantada sobre todas as nações. | 26 This is the decision taken in defiance of the whole world; this, the hand outstretched in defiance of alnations. |
| 27 O Senhor dos exércitos o decretou. Quem poderá opor-se? A sua mão está levantada. Quem a desviará? | 27 Once Yahweh Sabaoth has decided, who wil stop him? Once he stretches out his hand, who canwithdraw it? |
| 28 No ano em que morreu o rei Acaz, foi anunciado este oráculo: | 28 In the year Ahaz died came this proclamation: |
| 29 Não te alegres tu, ó terra dos Filisteus, por se ter despedaçado a vara que te feria, porque da estirpe da serpente nascerá um basilisco, e o que dele nascer será um dragão voador. | 29 Al Philistia, do not rejoice because the rod which used to beat you is now broken, for the serpentstock wil produce a viper, its offspring wil be a flying dragon. |
| 30 Então os mais pobres (de Israel) serão nutridos, e os indigentes repousarão com segurança; mas farei morrer de fome a tua raça (ó Filisteu), e acabarei com tudo o que restar de ti. | 30 While the first-born of the poor are grazing and the destitute are resting in safety, I shall make yourstock die of hunger and then slaughter what remains of you. |
| 31 Dá uivos, ó porta! Grita cidade! Estremece todo, ó país dos Filisteus! Porque do norte vem uma nuvem de pó, vêm batalhões de fileiras cerradas. | 31 Howl, gate! Shriek, city! Totter, all Philistia! For a smoke is coming from the north, and there are nodeserters in those battalions. |
| 32 Que se responderá aos mensageiros da (dita) nação? Que o Senhor fundou Sião, e que nele se abrigam os humildes do seu povo. | 32 What reply wil be given then to the messengers of that nation? - That Yahweh founded Zion andthere the poor of his people will find refuge. |
