| 1 Joab, filho de Sarvia, advertindo que o coração do rei estava inclinado para Absalão, | 1 Now Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom. |
| 2 mandou vir de Tecua uma mulher hábil, e disse-lhe: Finge que estás de luto, toma um vestido de dó, e não te unjas com óleo, para pareceres uma mulher que chora um morto há muito tempo. | 2 And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said unto her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on now mourning apparel, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that had a long time mourned for the dead: |
| 3 Apresentar-te-ás ao rei, e lhe dirás tais e tais palavras. E Joab pôs-lhe na boca tudo o que havia de dizer. | 3 And come to the king, and speak on this manner unto him. So Joab put the words in her mouth. |
| 4 Tendo-se apresentado ao rei esta mulher de Tecua, lançou-se por terra diante dele, fez-lhe uma profunda reverência e disse: Salva-me, ó rei. | 4 And when the woman of Tekoah spake to the king, she fell on her face to the ground, and did obeisance, and said, Help, O king. |
| 5 O rei disse-lhe: Que tens? Ela respondeu: Ai! eu sou uma mulher viúva: morreu o meu marido. | 5 And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, I am indeed a widow woman, and mine husband is dead. |
| 6 A tua serva tinha dois filhos, os quais tiveram uma briga no campo entre si, e não houve ninguém que os pudesse apartar; um feriu o outro, e matou-o. | 6 And thy handmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other, and slew him. |
| 7 Agora toda a parentela, levantando-se contra a tua serva, diz: Dá-nos esse que matou o seu irmão, para o matarmos em castigo do sangue do seu irmão, a quem matou, e tirarmos do mundo o herdeiro. Assim pretendem apagar a única brasa que me ficou, de modo que não se conserve o nome do meu marido, nem resto algum sobre a terra. | 7 And, behold, the whole family is risen against thine handmaid, and they said, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may kill him, for the life of his brother whom he slew; and we will destroy the heir also: and so they shall quench my coal which is left, and shall not leave to my husband neither name nor remainder upon the earth. |
| 8 O rei disse à mulher: Vai para tua casa, que darei ordem em teu favor. | 8 And the king said unto the woman, Go to thine house, and I will give charge concerning thee. |
| 9 A mulher de Tecua, porém, disse ao rei: Sobre mim, ó rei meu senhor, recaia a culpa, e sobre a casa de meu pai; mas o rei e o seu trono sejam inocentes. | 9 And the woman of Tekoah said unto the king, My lord, O king, the iniquity be on me, and on my father's house: and the king and his throne be guiltless. |
| 10 O rei disse: Se alguém te contradisser, traze-o à minha presença, e está certa de que ele te não inquietará mais. | 10 And the king said, Whosoever saith ought unto thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more. |
| 11 Ela disse: Recorde-se o rei do Senhor seu Deus, para que se não multipliquem os parentes do morto, para tomarem vingança e de modo algum matem o meu filho. Ele respondeu: Viva o Senhor! (juro) que não há-de cair no chão um único cabelo do teu filho. | 11 Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the LORD thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the LORD liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth. |
| 12 Disse então a mulher: Permite que a tua serva diga uma palavra ao rei, meu senhor. Ele disse: Fala. | 12 Then the woman said, Let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak one word unto my lord the king. And he said, Say on. |
| 13 A mulher disse: Por que pensaste tu (fazer) uma coisa semelhante contra o povo de Deus? Proferindo tal sentença, o rei se dá por culpado, pelo facto, de não chamar aquele que desterrou. | 13 And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king doth speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished. |
| 14 Nós todos vamos morrendo, e corremos pela terra como águas, que não voltam mais. Deus não quer que alguma alma pereça, antes está sempre disposto a revogar a sentença, para que se não perca de todo o que está abatido. | 14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God respect any person: yet doth he devise means, that his banished be not expelled from him. |
| 15 Se, agora, vim dizer esta palavra ao rei, foi porque o povo me aterrou. A tua serva disse: Falarei ao rei, a ver se dalgum modo consigo dele a graça que lhe peço. | 15 Now therefore that I am come to speak of this thing unto my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid: and thy handmaid said, I will now speak unto the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his handmaid. |
| 16 Sim, o rei ouvir-me-á e livrará a sua serva da mão de todos os que me querem exterminar a mim e ao meu filho da herança (do povo) de Deus. | 16 For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God. |
| 17 A tua serva disse: Que a palavra do rei, meu senhor me tranquilize, porque o rei meu senhor é como um anjo de Deus, para discernir o bem do mal. E, agora, que o Senhor teu Deus seja contigo. | 17 Then thine handmaid said, The word of my lord the king shall now be comfortable: for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad: therefore the LORD thy God will be with thee. |
| 18 Respondendo o rei, disse à mulher: Não me encubras o que te vou perguntar. A mulher disse: Fala, ó rei, meu senhor. | 18 Then the king answered and said unto the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak. |
| 19 O rei disse: Não é verdade que a mão de Joab anda contigo em tudo isto? Respondeu a mulher: Por tua vida, ó rei meu senhor, em nada se aparta (da verdade) tudo o que disse o rei meu senhor, nem para a direita nem para a esquerda, porque com efeito o teu servo Joab é quem me deu esta ordem, e quem pôs todas estas palavras na boca da tua serva. | 19 And the king said, Is not the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, As thy soul liveth, my lord the king, none can turn to the right hand or to the left from ought that my lord the king hath spoken: for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words in the mouth of thine handmaid: |
| 20 Foi o teu servo Joab que me mandou servir desta parábola. Porém tu, ó rei meu senhor, és sábio como o é um anjo de Deus, para entenderes tudo o que se passa sobre a terra. | 20 To fetch about this form of speech hath thy servant Joab done this thing: and my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all things that are in the earth. |
| 21 O rei disse a Joab: Vou fazer o que pedes; anda, faze voltar o jovem Absalão. | 21 And the king said unto Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: go therefore, bring the young man Absalom again. |
| 22 Joab, prostrando-se por terra sobre o seu rosto, fez uma profunda reverência, abençoou o rei, e disse: Hoje, ó rei meu senhor, o teu servo conheceu que achou graça diante dos teus olhos, porque deferiste a súplica do teu servo. | 22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face, and bowed himself, and thanked the king: and Joab said, To day thy servant knoweth that I have found grace in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king hath fulfilled the request of his servant. |
| 23 Partiu, logo, Joab, foi a Gessur e conduziu Absalão para Jerusalém | 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. |
| 24 Mas o rei disse: Volte para sua casa, sem aparecer diante de mim. Absalão foi, e não viu a face do rei. | 24 And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. So Absalom returned to his own house, and saw not the king's face. |
| 25 Em todo o Israel não havia homem tão belo, nem tão gentil, como Absalão; da planta dos pés até à cabeça não havia nele defeito algum. | 25 But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. |
| 26 Quando cortava o cabelo (o que fazia um a vez cada ano, porque o incomodava a cabeleira), o cabelo da sua cabeça pesava duzentos ciclos, pelo peso real. | 26 And when he polled his head, (for it was at every year's end that he polled it: because the hair was heavy on him, therefore he polled it:) he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king's weight. |
| 27 Absalão teve três filhos e uma filha chamada Tamar, de extrema formosura. | 27 And unto Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a fair countenance. |
| 28 Absalão esteve em Jerusalém dois anos, e não viu a face do rei. | 28 So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and saw not the king's face. |
| 29 Mandou chamar Joab para o enviar ao rei, mas ele não quis ir. Chamou-o segunda vez, e, tendo ele recusado ir, | 29 Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to have sent him to the king; but he would not come to him: and when he sent again the second time, he would not come. |
| 30 disse aos seus servos: Vós sabeis que Joab tem um campo junto do meu, que está semeado de cevada; ide, pois, e lançai-lhe o fogo. Os servos de Absalão puseram fogo à seara. Indo os servos de Joab ter com seu amo, rasgadas as suas vestes, disseram-lhe: Os servos de Absalão puseram fogo a parte do teu campo. | 30 Therefore he said unto his servants, See, Joab's field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the field on fire. |
| 31 Joab levantou-se, foi a casa de Absalão, e disse: Porque puseram os teus servos fogo à minha seara? | 31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom unto his house, and said unto him, Wherefore have thy servants set my field on fire? |
| 32 Absalão respondeu a Joab: Eu mandei-te chamar, pedindo-te que viesses ter comigo, para te enviar ao rei a dizer-lhe: Por que vim eu de Gessur? Melhor me era estar lá; alcança-me pois a graça de ver a face do rei; todavia, se ele se recorda (ainda) da minha iniquidade, mande-me matar. | 32 And Absalom answered Joab, Behold, I sent unto thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Wherefore am I come from Geshur? it had been good for me to have been there still: now therefore let me see the king's face; and if there be any iniquity in me, let him kill me. |
| 33 Então Joab, apresentando-se ao rei, contou-lhe tudo. Absalão foi chamado, entrou à presença do rei, prostrou-se com a face por terra diante dele, e o rei beijou Absalão (em sinal de reconciliação completa). | 33 So Joab came to the king, and told him: and when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king: and the king kissed Absalom. |
