Proverbios 17

BIBLIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Mejor es un mendrugo de pan a secas, pero con tranquilidad, que casa llena de sacrificios de discordia.	1 Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.
2 El siervo prudente prevalece sobre el hijo sin honra; tendrá, con los hermanos, parte en la herencia.	2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.
3 Crisol para la plata, horno para el oro; los corazones, Yahveh mismo los prueba.	3 As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.
4 El malo está atento a los labios inicuos, el mentiroso presta oído a la lengua perversa.	4 The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.
5 Quien se burla de un pobre, ultraja a su Hacedor, quien se ríe de la desgracia no quedará impune.	5 He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man's ruin, shall not be unpunished.
6 Corona de los ancianos son los hijos de los hijos; los padres son el honor de los hijos.	6 Children's children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.
7 Al necio no le sienta un lenguaje pulido, y aún menos al noble un hablar engañoso.	7 Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.
8 El obsequio es un talismán, para el que puede hacerlo; dondequiera que vaya, tiene éxito.	8 The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.
9 El que cubre un delito, se gana una amistad el que propala cosas, divide a los amigos.	9 He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.
10 Más afecta un reproche a un hombre inteligente que cien golpes a un necio.	10 A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
11 El malvado sólo busca rebeliones, pero le será enviado un cruel mensajero.	11 An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.
12 Mejor topar con osa privada de sus cachorros que con tonto en su necedad.	12 It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.
13 Si uno devuelve mal por bien no se alejará la desdicha de su casa.	13 He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Entablar proceso es dar curso libre a las aguas; interrúmpelo antes de que se extienda.	14 The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.
15 Justificar al malo y condenar al justo; ambas cosas abomina Yahveh.	15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.
16 ¿De qué sirve la riqueza en manos del necio? ¿Para adquirir sabiduría, siendo un insensato?	16 What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.
17 El amigo ama en toda ocasión, el hermano nace para tiempo de angustia.	17 He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.
18 Es hombre insensato el que choca la mano y sale fiador de su vecino.	18 A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.
19 El que ama el pecado, ama los golpes, el que es altanero, busca la ruina.	19 He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.
20 El de corazón pervertido, no hallará la dicha; el de lengua doble caerá en desgracia.	20 He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.
21 El que engendra un necio, es para su mal; no tendrá alegría el padre del insensato.	21 A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.
22 El corazón alegre mejora la salud; el espíritu abatido seca los huesos.	22 A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.
23 El malo acepta regalos en su seno, para torcer las sendas del derecho.	23 The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
24 Ante el hombre inteligente está la sabiduría, los ojos del necio en los confines de la tierra.	24 Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.
25 Hijo necio, tristeza de su padre, y amargura de la que lo engendró.	25 A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.
26 No es bueno poner multa al justo, golpear a los nobles es contra derecho.	26 It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.
27 El que retiene sus palabras es conocedor de la ciencia, el de sangre fría es hombre inteligente.	27 He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.
28 Hasta al necio, si calla, se le tiene por sabio, por inteligente, si cierra los labios.	28 Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.
