1 Je vous le demande, moi, le prisonnier dans le Seigneur: montrez-vous dignes de l’appel que vous avez reçu.	1 And so, as a prisoner in the Lord, I beg you to walk in a manner worthy of the vocation to which you have been called:
2 Faites preuve d’humilité, de bonté, d’esprit de compréhension, et supportez-vous les uns les autres avec amour.	2 with all humility and meekness, with patience, supporting one another in charity.
3 Efforcez-vous de garder l’unité de l’esprit grâce au lien de la paix.	3 Be anxious to preserve the unity of the Spirit within the bonds of peace.
4 Qu’il y ait un seul corps et un seul esprit, tout comme vous avez été appelés à une même vocation et espérance:	4 One body and one Spirit: to this you have been called by the one hope of your calling:
5 un seul Seigneur, une seule foi, un seul baptême,	5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 un seul Dieu et Père de tous, qui est au-dessus de tout, et qui fait tout en tous!	6 one God and Father of all, who is over all, and through all, and in us all.
7 Chacun de nous a reçu sa grâce, et c’est le Christ qui a fixé à chacun sa mesure.	7 Yet to each one of us there has been given grace according to the measure allotted by Christ.
8 Il est bien dit: Il est monté vers les hauteurs pour y faire des prisonniers, puis il a distribué aux hommes ses dons.	8 Because of this, he says: “Ascending on high, he took captivity itself captive; he gave gifts to men.”
9 Il est monté: il s’agit de celui qui était descendu dans les profondeurs de la terre.	9 Now that he has ascended, what is left except for him also to descended, first to the lower parts of the earth?
10 Celui qui est descendu est aussi monté plus haut que les cieux de façon à remplir tout l’univers.	10 He who descended is the same one who also ascended above all the heavens, so that he might fulfill everything.
11 Et quels sont ses dons? Les uns sont apôtres, les autres prophètes, les autres évangélistes, les autres pasteurs et enseignants.	11 And the same one granted that some would be Apostles, and some Prophets, yet truly others evangelists, and others pastors and teachers,
12 C’est ainsi qu’il prépare les saints pour les œuvres de leur ministère, pour la construction du corps du Christ,	12 for the sake of the perfection of the saints, by the work of the ministry, in the edification of the body of Christ,
13 pour que nous arrivions tous à l’unité dans la foi et la connaissance du Fils de Dieu, pour que nous devenions l’Homme accompli et adulte dans lequel se déploie la plénitude du Christ.	13 until we all meet in the unity of faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, as a perfect man, in the measure of the age of the fullness of Christ.
14 Alors nous ne serons plus de petits enfants traînant à la dérive, emportés par le vent, par n’importe quelle doctrine et invention d’hommes astucieux et experts en tromperie.	14 So may we then no longer be little children, disturbed and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the wickedness of men, and by the craftiness which deceives unto error.
15 Nous serons dans l’amour et nous serons dans le vrai; nous irons grandissant sans arrêt pour rejoindre celui qui est la tête, le Christ.	15 Instead, acting according to truth in charity, we should increase in everything, in him who is the head, Christ himself.
16 De lui vient la croissance du corps où tout un réseau établit l’harmonie et donne la fermeté, mettant en valeur et tenant compte des capacités de chacun; et le corps se construit dans l’amour.	16 For in him, the whole body is joined closely together, by every underlying joint, through the function allotted to each part, bringing improvement to the body, toward its edification in charity.
17 Donc je vous dis, et je vous l’ordonne dans le Seigneur: n’imitez pas la conduite des païens, car ils se laissent mener par des ambitions vaines.	17 And so, I say this, and I testify in the Lord: that from now on you should walk, not as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Leur esprit n’est que ténèbres; leur conscience s’étant endurcie, ils sont pleins d’ignorance et totalement étrangers à la vie de Dieu.	18 having their intellect obscured, being alienated from the life of God, through the ignorance that is within them, because of the blindness of their hearts.
19 Ils se sont souillés, ils se sont livrés à la débauche, ils recherchent avec frénésie les actions impures qu’ils pourraient commettre.	19 Such as these, despairing, have given themselves over to sexual immorality, carrying out every impurity with rapacity.
20 Ce n’est pas pour cela que vous êtes devenus disciples du Christ,	20 But this is not what you have learned in Christ.
21 car je suppose, c’est de lui qu’on vous a parlé, c’est lui qu’on vous a enseigné, prenant comme vérité ce qui est en Jésus lui-même.	21 For certainly, you have listened to him, and you have been instructed in him, according to the truth that is in Jesus:
22 Vous devez renoncer à votre ancienne façon de vivre, à cet homme déjà vieux qui se laisse égarer par ses passions et se détruit lui-même.	22 to set aside your earlier behavior, the former man, who was corrupted, by means of desire, unto error,
23 Il s’agit de vous renouveler spirituellement à partir de l’intérieur,	23 and so be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
24 et de revêtir l’Homme Nouveau, l’homme selon Dieu, qui est créé dans la vraie droiture et sainteté.	24 and so put on the new man, who, in accord with God, is created in justice and in the holiness of truth.
25 Renoncez donc au mensonge. Que chacun dise la vérité à son prochain, car nous sommes membres du même corps.	25 Because of this, setting aside lying, speak the truth, each one with his neighbor. For we are all part of one another.
26 Mettez-vous en colère mais ne péchez pas: que le soleil ne se couche pas avant votre colère;	26 “Be angry, but do not be willing to sin.” Do not let the sun set over your anger.
27 car autrement le diable s’y mettrait.	27 Provide no place for the devil.
28 Si tu étais voleur, ne vole plus, mais travaille avec tes mains et même fatigue-toi pour partager avec celui qui est dans le besoin.	28 Whoever was stealing, let him now not steal, but rather let him labor, working with his hands, doing what is good, so that he may have something to distribute to those who suffer need.
29 Que votre bouche ne laisse échapper aucune plaisanterie sale, mais seulement ce qui est bon et qui apporte quelque chose aux autres.	29 Let no evil words proceed from your mouth, but only what is good, toward the edification of faith, so as to bestow grace upon those who listen.
30 N’attristez pas l’Esprit Saint de Dieu qui est votre marque, en vue du jour où Dieu nous prendra avec lui.	30 And do not be willing to grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you have been sealed, unto the day of redemption.
31 Débarrassez-vous de tout ce qui est mauvais: paroles méchantes, emportements, colère, cris, injures.	31 Let all bitterness and anger and indignation and outcry and blasphemy be taken away from you, along with all malice.
32 Traitez-vous avec bonté et compréhension, et pardonnez comme Dieu vous a pardonné dans le Christ.	32 And be kind and merciful to one another, forgiving one another, just as God has forgiven you in Christ.
