1 “Voyez ce qui se passera alors dans le Royaume des Cieux. Dix jeunes filles ont pris leurs lampes et sont parties à la rencontre du marié.	1 “Then the kingdom of heaven shall be like ten virgins, who, taking their lamps, went out to meet the groom and the bride.
2 Cinq d’entre elles sont des étourdies, mais les cinq autres savent prévoir.	2 But five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.
3 Les étourdies ont pris leurs lampes, mais n’ont pas emporté d’huile en plus,	3 For the five foolish, having brought their lamps, did not take oil with them.
4 tandis que les prévoyantes ont pris en même temps que leurs lampes une réserve d’huile.	4 Yet truly, the prudent ones brought the oil, in their containers, with the lamps.
5 “Mais voici que le marié se fait attendre; toutes les filles tombent de sommeil et bientôt elles s’endorment.	5 Since the bridegroom was delayed, they all fell asleep, and they were sleeping.
6 “Au milieu de la nuit on entend un cri: ‘Voici le marié, sortez pour le recevoir!’	6 But in the middle of the night, a cry went out: ‘Behold, the groom is arriving. Go out to meet him.’
7 Toutes aussitôt se réveillent et préparent leurs lampes.	7 Then all those virgins rose up and trimmed their lamps.
8 Les étourdies disent alors aux prévoyantes: ‘Donnez-nous de votre huile, car nos lampes sont près de s’éteindre.’	8 But the foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give to us from your oil, for our lamps are being extinguished.’
9 Mais les prévoyantes répondent: ‘Il n’y en aurait sûrement pas assez pour nous et pour vous. Allez trouver ceux qui en vendent et achetez-en pour vous.’	9 The prudent responded by saying, ‘Lest perhaps there may not be enough for us and for you, it would be better for you to go to the vendors and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “Les voilà donc parties pour en acheter, et c’est alors que le marié arrive. Celles qui sont prêtes à le recevoir entrent avec lui pour les noces, et on referme la porte.	10 But while they were going to buy it, the groom arrived. And those who were prepared entered with him to the wedding, and the door was closed.
11 “Plus tard arrivent aussi les autres: ‘Seigneur, Seigneur, disent-elles, ouvre-nous!’	11 Yet truly, at the very end, the remaining virgins also arrived, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us.’
12 Mais lui répond: ‘En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne vous connais pas!’	12 But he responded by saying, ‘Amen I say to you, I do not know you.’
13 “Restez donc éveillés car vous ne savez ni le jour ni l’heure.”	13 And so you must be vigilant, because you do not know the day or the hour.
14 “Écoutez encore ceci: Un homme, avant de partir à l’étranger, fait appeler ses serviteurs pour leur remettre son argent.	14 For it is like a man setting out on a long journey, who called his servants and delivered to them his goods.
15 Il donne au premier cinq talents, à un autre deux, et au troisième un talent: à chacun selon sa capacité. Puis il part.	15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, yet to another he gave one, to each according to his own ability. And promptly, he set out.
16 “Celui qui a reçu les cinq talents va immédiatement les faire travailler et il en gagne cinq autres.	16 Then he who had received five talents went out, and he made use of these, and he gained another five.
17 Celui qui en a reçu deux fait de même et en gagne deux autres.	17 And similarly, he who had received two gained another two.
18 Quant à celui qui n’en a reçu qu’un, il fait un trou dans la terre et cache l’argent de son maître.	18 But he who had received one, going out, dug into the earth, and he hid the money of his lord.
19 “Longtemps après, le maître de ces serviteurs vient leur demander des comptes.	19 Yet truly, after a long time, the lord of those servants returned and he settled accounts with them.
20 Celui qui a reçu les cinq talents lui en présente cinq de plus: ‘Seigneur, dit-il, tu m’as confié cinq talents, en voici cinq autres que j’ai gagnés.’	20 And when he who had received five talents approached, he brought another five talents, saying: ‘Lord, you delivered five talents to me. Behold, I have increased it by another five.’
21 Son maître alors lui déclare: ‘Très bien, bon et fidèle serviteur, tu as été fidèle pour une petite chose, je te confierai beaucoup plus; viens partager la joie de ton maître.’	21 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
22 “Celui qui a reçu les deux talents s’avance à son tour: ‘Seigneur, dit-il, tu m’as confié deux talents, en voici deux autres que j’ai gagnés.’	22 Then he who had received two talents also approached, and he said: ‘Lord, you delivered two talents to me. Behold, I have gained another two.’
23 Son maître répond: ‘Très bien, bon et fidèle serviteur, tu as été fidèle pour une petite chose, je te confierai beaucoup plus; viens partager la joie de ton maître.’	23 His lord said to him: ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. Since you have been faithful over a few things, I will appoint you over many things. Enter into the gladness of your lord.’
24 “Celui qui n’a reçu qu’un talent s’avance alors et dit: ‘Seigneur, je savais que tu es un homme dur. Tu moissonnes là où tu n’as pas semé et tu amasses quand tu n’as rien engagé.	24 Then he who had received one talent, approaching, said: ‘Lord, I know that you are a hard man. You reap where you have not sown, and gather where you have not scattered.
25 J’ai donc pris peur et je suis allé cacher ton talent dans la terre. Voilà ce qui t’appartient.’	25 And so, being afraid, I went out and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’
26 “Mais son maître lui répond: ‘Mauvais serviteur, bon à rien, tu savais que je moissonne là où je n’ai pas semé et que j’amasse quand je n’ai rien engagé.	26 But his lord said to him in response: ‘You evil and lazy servant! You knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered.
27 Mais alors, tu devais placer mon argent à la banque: à mon retour j’aurais repris ce qui est à moi avec les intérêts.	27 Therefore, you should have deposited my money with the bankers, and then, at my arrival, at least I would have received what is mine with interest.
28 “Prenez-lui donc ce talent et donnez-le à celui qui en a dix.	28 And so, take the talent away from him and give it the one who has ten talents.
29 On donnera à celui qui produit et il sera dans l’abondance, mais celui qui ne produit pas, on lui prendra même ce qu’il a.	29 For to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he shall have in abundance. But from him who has not, even what he seems to have, shall be taken away.
30 Et ce serviteur inutile, jetez-le dehors dans les ténèbres: là il y aura pleurs et grincements de dents.’”	30 And cast that useless servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
31 “Lorsque le Fils de l’Homme viendra dans sa gloire accompagné de tous les anges, il s’assiéra sur le trône de Gloire, le sien.	31 But when the Son of man will have arrived in his majesty, and all the Angels with him, then he will sit upon the seat of his majesty.
32 Toutes les nations seront amenées devant lui; il séparera les uns d’avec les autres, comme le berger sépare les brebis d’avec les chèvres.	32 And all the nations shall be gathered together before him. And he shall separate them from one another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 À sa droite il rangera les brebis, et à sa gauche les chèvres.	33 And he shall station the sheep, indeed, on his right, but the goats on his left.
34 “Alors le Roi dira à ceux qui sont à sa droite: ‘Venez, les bénis de mon Père, prenez possession du Royaume qui est préparé pour vous depuis la création du monde.	34 Then the King shall say to those who will be on his right: ‘Come, you blessed of my Father. Possess the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 Car j’ai eu faim et vous m’avez donné à manger; j’ai eu soif et vous m’avez donné à boire; j’étais étranger et vous m’avez accueilli,	35 For I was hungry, and you gave me to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me to drink; I was a stranger, and you took me in;
36 sans vêtement, et vous m’avez habillé. J’étais malade et vous m’avez visité, j’étais en prison et vous êtes venus vers moi.’	36 naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.’
37 “Alors les justes lui demanderont: ‘Quand donc, Seigneur, t’avons-nous vu affamé pour ainsi te nourrir? Quand t’avons-nous vu assoiffé et t’avons-nous donné à boire?	37 Then the just will answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when have we see you hungry, and fed you; thirsty, and given you drink?
38 Quand t’avons-nous vu étranger et t’avons-nous accueilli, quand étais-tu sans vêtements et t’avons-nous vêtu,	38 And when have we seen you a stranger, and taken you in? Or naked, and covered you?
39 quand t’avons-nous vu malade ou en prison et sommes-nous venus à toi?’	39 Or when did we see you sick, or in prison, and visit to you?’
40 “Et le roi leur répondra: ‘En vérité je vous le dis, tout ce que vous avez fait à l’un de ces petits qui sont mes frères, c’est à moi que vous l’avez fait.’	40 And in response, the King shall say to them, ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did this for one of these, the least of my brothers, you did it for me.’
41 “Puis il dira à ceux qui sont à sa gauche: ‘Retirez-vous loin de moi, maudits! Allez au feu éternel qui a été préparé pour le démon et pour ses anges.	41 Then he shall also say, to those who will be on his left: ‘Depart from me, you accursed ones, into the eternal fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 Car j’ai eu faim et vous ne m’avez pas donné à manger; j’avais soif et vous ne m’avez pas donné à boire;	42 For I was hungry, and you did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and you did not give me to drink;
43 j’étais étranger et vous ne m’avez pas accueilli, sans vêtement, et vous ne m’avez pas habillé; malade et en prison, et vous ne m’avez pas visité.’	43 I was a stranger and you did not take me in; naked, and you did not cover me; sick and in prison, and you did not visit me.’
44 “Tous alors protesteront: ‘Seigneur, quand t’avons-nous vu affamé ou assoiffé, quand t’avons-nous vu étranger, sans vêtement, malade et en prison, sans te porter secours?’	44 Then they will also answer him, saying: ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister to you?’
45 Et lui leur répondra: ‘En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne l’avez pas fait à l’un de ces petits, c’est à moi que vous ne l’avez pas fait.’	45 Then he shall respond to them by saying: ‘Amen I say to you, whenever you did not do it to one of these least, neither did you do it to me.’
46 “Alors ceux-ci iront au châtiment éternel, et les justes à la vie éternelle.”	46 And these shall go into eternal punishment, but the just shall go into eternal life.”
