| 1 Yahvé dit à Moïse et à Aaron: | 1 Now the LORD said to Moses and to Aaron, |
| 2 “Voici une prescription de la Loi que Yahvé vous ordonne. Tu diras aux Israélites de t’amener une vache rousse sans défaut et sans tare, sur laquelle on n’a jamais posé le joug. | 2 "This is the statute of the law which the LORD has commanded: Tell the people of Israel to bring you a red heifer without defect, in which there is no blemish, and upon which a yoke has never come. |
| 3 Vous la remettrez au prêtre Éléazar, il la fera sortir hors du camp et on l’immolera devant lui. | 3 And you shall give her to Eleazar the priest, and she shall be taken outside the camp and slaughtered before him; |
| 4 Éléazar le prêtre prendra de son sang avec son doigt, et fera sept fois l’aspersion en se tournant vers l’entrée de la Tente du Rendez-Vous. | 4 and Eleazar the priest shall take some of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle some of her blood toward the front of the tent of meeting seven times. |
| 5 Ensuite on brûlera la vache sous ses yeux. On brûlera sa peau, sa viande, son sang et ses excréments. | 5 And the heifer shall be burned in his sight; her skin, her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall be burned; |
| 6 Alors le prêtre prendra du bois de cèdre, de l’hysope et de la teinture rouge, et il les jettera au milieu du bûcher où on brûlera la vache. | 6 and the priest shall take cedarwood and hyssop and scarlet stuff, and cast them into the midst of the burning of the heifer. |
| 7 Ensuite le prêtre lavera ses habits, il se baignera dans l’eau, puis il reviendra dans le camp; le prêtre sera impur jusqu’au soir. | 7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterwards he shall come into the camp; and the priest shall be unclean until evening. |
| 8 Celui qui aura brûlé la vache lavera ses vêtements dans l’eau et s’y baignera; il sera impur jusqu’au soir. | 8 He who burns the heifer shall wash his clothes in water and bathe his body in water, and shall be unclean until evening. |
| 9 Un homme pur recueillera la cendre de la vache et la déposera hors du camp, dans un lieu pur. On la conservera pour faire l’eau de purification à l’usage de la communauté des Israélites, pour faire l’expiation. | 9 And a man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and deposit them outside the camp in a clean place; and they shall be kept for the congregation of the people of Israel for the water for impurity, for the removal of sin. |
| 10 Celui qui aura recueilli la cendre de la vache lavera ses vêtements et sera impur jusqu’au soir: c’est une loi perpétuelle pour les Israélites, comme pour l’étranger qui habite au milieu de vous. | 10 And he who gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until evening. And this shall be to the people of Israel, and to the stranger who sojourns among them, a perpetual statute. |
| 11 Celui qui touche un mort, un cadavre d’homme, sera impur durant sept jours. | 11 "He who touches the dead body of any person shall be unclean seven days; |
| 12 Il se purifiera avec cette eau le troisième jour et le septième jour, après quoi il sera pur. Mais s’il ne se purifie pas au troisième et au septième jour, il reste impur. | 12 he shall cleanse himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day, and so be clean; but if he does not cleanse himself on the third day and on the seventh day, he will not become clean. |
| 13 Si quelqu’un touche un mort, un cadavre d’homme qui est mort, et ne se purifie pas, il rend impure la Demeure de Yahvé. Cet homme sera retranché d’Israël. Tant que l’eau de purification n’a pas été répandue sur lui, il est impur, son impureté reste en lui. | 13 Whoever touches a dead person, the body of any man who has died, and does not cleanse himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD, and that person shall be cut off from Israel; because the water for impurity was not thrown upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is still on him. |
| 14 Voici la loi quand un homme meurt dans une tente: quiconque entre dans la tente sera impur durant sept jours comme tout ce qui est dans la tente. | 14 "This is the law when a man dies in a tent: every one who comes into the tent, and every one who is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days. |
| 15 Tout vase non couvert sur lequel il n’y a pas un couvercle attaché, sera impur. | 15 And every open vessel, which has no cover fastened upon it, is unclean. |
| 16 Celui qui, dans un champ, touche quelqu’un qui est mort par l’épée ou autrement, des ossements d’homme ou une tombe, sera impur durant sept jours. | 16 Whoever in the open field touches one who is slain with a sword, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days. |
| 17 Pour la purification de cette personne, on prendra de la cendre sur le bûcher où l’on a fait le sacrifice d’expiation et l’on versera dessus l’eau d’un vase. | 17 For the unclean they shall take some ashes of the burnt sin offering, and running water shall be added in a vessel; |
| 18 Ensuite un homme pur prendra de l’hysope, il la plongera dans l’eau et aspergera la tente, tous les objets et toutes les personnes qui s’y trouvent; on fera de même pour celui qui a touché les ossements, la victime, le mort ou la tombe. | 18 then a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the furnishings, and upon the persons who were there, and upon him who touched the bone, or the slain, or the dead, or the grave; |
| 19 L’homme pur aspergera celui qui est impur le troisième jour et le septième jour; le septième jour il fera l’expiation. Celui-ci lavera ses vêtements et se baignera dans l’eau, et le soir il sera pur. | 19 and the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day and on the seventh day; thus on the seventh day he shall cleanse him, and he shall wash his clothes and bathe himself in water, and at evening he shall be clean. |
| 20 Mais l’homme qui est impur et qui ne fait pas de rite d’expiation, sera retranché du milieu de la communauté pour avoir rendu impur le sanctuaire de Yahvé. Si l’eau qui purifie n’a pas été répandue sur lui, c’est un impur. | 20 "But the man who is unclean and does not cleanse himself, that person shall be cut off from the midst of the assembly, since he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD; because the water for impurity has not been thrown upon him, he is unclean. |
| 21 Ce sera un rite perpétuel. Celui qui asperge avec l’eau de purification devra laver ses vêtements, et celui qui aura touché à cette eau sera impur jusqu’au soir. | 21 And it shall be a perpetual statute for them. He who sprinkles the water for impurity shall wash his clothes; and he who touches the water for impurity shall be unclean until evening. |
| 22 Tout ce que touche l’impur sera impur, et celui qui y touche sera impur jusqu’au soir.” | 22 And whatever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and any one who touches it shall be unclean until evening." |
