1 En l’an 480 après la sortie des Israélites du pays d’Égypte, la quatrième année du règne de Salomon sur Israël, au second mois, le mois de Ziv, il mit en chantier la Maison, ou Temple de Yahvé.	1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD.
2 Elle avait 60 coudées de long, 20 de large et 30 coudées de haut.	2 And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits.
3 Le vestibule en avant du sanctuaire de la Maison avait 20 coudées de long dans le sens de la largeur de la Maison et 10 coudées de profondeur sur le devant de la Maison.	3 And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house.
4 Les fenêtres de la Maison étaient garnies de grilles.	4 And for the house he made windows of narrow lights.
5 Le long des murs de la Maison, on construisit une galerie qui faisait le tour du Sanctuaire et du Saint des Saints. Tout autour s’ouvraient des chambres latérales.	5 And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about:
6 La galerie d’en-bas avait une largeur de 5 coudées, celle du milieu une largeur de 6 coudées, et la troisième une largeur de 7 coudées, car on avait disposé des retraits tout autour de la Maison à l’extérieur, pour ne pas entailler les murs.	6 The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house.
7 Pour construire la Maison, on se servit de pierres préparées dans les carrières; tout le temps de la construction on n’entendit dans la Maison ni marteau, ni hache, ni aucun outil de fer.	7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.
8 L’entrée de la galerie inférieure était sur le côté droit de la Maison. On montait par des escaliers à la galerie intermédiaire et, de là, à la galerie supérieure.	8 The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
9 Salomon mit en chantier la Maison et il l’acheva. Il y mit un plafond avec des moulures et des panneaux de cèdres.	9 So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar.
10 Il donna cinq coudées de hauteur à la galerie qui faisait le tour de la Maison. Elle tenait à la Maison par ses poutres de cèdre.	10 And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.
11 La parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Salomon, pour lui dire:	11 And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying,
12 “Tu bâtis cette Maison. Si tu marches selon mes lois et mets en pratique mes ordonnances, si tu observes mes commandements et règles sur eux ta conduite, cette Maison que tu construis me permettra de tenir la promesse que j’ai faite à ton père David:	12 Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father:
13 J’habiterai au milieu des Israélites et je n’abandonnerai pas mon peuple Israël.”	13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel.
14 Salomon construisit la Maison et l’acheva.	14 So Solomon built the house, and finished it.
15 À l’intérieur, les murs étaient couverts depuis le sol jusqu’au plafond avec des planches de cèdres; tout l’intérieur était couvert de bois et le sol était couvert d’un plancher de cyprès.	15 And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the cieling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir.
16 Le fond de la Maison était recouvert de planches de cèdre depuis le sol jusqu’au plafond: c’est là qu’il construisit le Saint des Saints.	16 And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place.
17 La Maison en avant du Saint des Saints avait 40 coudées.	17 And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long.
18 À l’intérieur de la Maison le cèdre était sculpté en forme de coloquintes et de guirlandes de fleurs: tout était revêtu de cèdre et l’on ne voyait pas les pierres.	18 And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen.
19 On avait préparé le Saint des Saints au cœur de la Maison, à l’intérieur, pour y placer l’Arche d’Alliance de Yahvé.	19 And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD.
20 En avant du Saint des Saints qui avait 20 coudées de long, 20 coudées de large et 20 coudées de haut, on dressa un autel de cèdre recouvert d’or fin.	20 And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar.
21 Salomon revêtit d’or fin l’intérieur de la Maison et une chaîne plaquée d’or fermait le Saint des Saints.	21 So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold.
22 Ainsi toute la Maison était recouverte d’or; il avait aussi recouvert d’or l’autel placé devant le Saint des Saints.	22 And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold.
23 Dans le Saint des Saints, il fit deux Chérubins de bois d’olivier sauvage de 10 coudées de haut.	23 And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high.
24 Chacune des ailes de chérubin avait cinq coudées: cela faisait donc 10 coudées de l’extrémité d’une aile à l’extrémité de l’autre.	24 And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits.
25 Le second chérubin mesurait également 10 coudées; les deux chérubins avaient la même taille et la même forme.	25 And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size.
26 La hauteur du premier, comme du deuxième chérubin, était de 10 coudées.	26 The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub.
27 Salomon plaça les chérubins au cœur de la Maison, les ailes déployées; l’aile du premier touchait l’un des murs et l’aile du second touchait l’autre mur, et leurs ailes se touchaient aile contre aile au milieu de la Maison.	27 And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house.
28 Salomon revêtit d’or les chérubins.	28 And he overlaid the cherubims with gold.
29 Il fit sculpter en relief sur tous les murs de la Maison, tout autour, à l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur, des chérubins, des palmes et des fleurs.	29 And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without.
30 À l’intérieur comme à l’extérieur, le sol de la Maison était recouvert d’or.	30 And the floor of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without.
31 Les battants de la porte du Saint des Saints étaient en bois d’olivier sauvage, le linteau et les montants occupaient le cinquième de la porte,	31 And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall.
32 les deux battants en bois d’olivier sauvage étaient sculptés de chérubins, de palmes et de fleurs; tout était recouvert d’or, y compris les chérubins et les palmes.	32 The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees.
33 De même l’entrée du sanctuaire était garnie de montants en bois d’olivier sauvage, qui occupaient le quart de la porte.	33 So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall.
34 Les deux battants étaient en bois de cyprès; chacun d’eux était formé de deux panneaux qui s’articulaient;	34 And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.
35 on y avait sculpté des chérubins, des palmes et des guirlandes de fleurs, le tout recouvert d’or.	35 And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work.
36 On construisit la cour intérieure de trois rangées de pierres de taille et d’une rangée de poutres de cèdres.	36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams.
37 La quatrième année, au mois de Ziv, on posa les fondements de la Maison de Yahvé.	37 In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:
38 La onzième année, au mois de Boul, le huitième mois, le Temple fut achevé dans tous ses détails, selon le plan qu’on avait établi; Salomon construisit le Temple en sept ans.	38 And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it.
