| 1 Nel terzo anno (del regno) di Ciro, re de' Persi, fu rivelata la parola a Daniele, lo quale si chiamava Baltassar; e la parola era vera, e la fortezza grande; e intese il parlare, però che a intender le visioni è bisogno d' intelligenza. | 1 In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a word was revealed to Daniel, who was named Belteshazzar. And the word was true, and it was a great conflict. And he understood the word and had understanding of the vision. |
| 2 In quegli dì io Daniele piansi tre settimane di giorni. | 2 In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three weeks. |
| 3 Pane non mangiai; [e carne] e vino non entrò nella bocca mia; nè mi unsi di unguento, per sino che fossero compiuti i giorni di tre settimane. | 3 I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, for the full three weeks. |
| 4 E ne' ventiquattro dì del mese primo; era io appo il fiume grande, chiamato Tigri. | 4 On the twenty-fourth day of the first month, as I was standing on the bank of the great river, that is, the Tigris, |
| 5 E levai gli occhi miei, e vidi; ed ecco uno uomo, vestito di panno di lino, cinto alle reni d'uno cingolo d'oro ottimo risplendente. | 5 I lifted up my eyes and looked, and behold, a man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with gold of Uphaz. |
| 6 E lo suo corpo era quasi di (color di) crisolito; (crisolito è una pietra preziosa di color verde d'acqua marina, e manda alcuni raggi in similitudine d'oro; così era lo corpo suo); e la faccia sua era quasi in similitudine di splendore, e gli occhi suoi erano in similitudine di lampade ardenti; e le braccia e le gambe insino a piedi erano quasi come rame rilucente; e la voce del parlare suo era come voce di una (grande) moltitudine. | 6 His body was like beryl, his face like the appearance of lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and the sound of his words like the noise of a multitude. |
| 7 E vidi io Daniele solo la visione; e quelli uomini ch' erano meco non videro; ma venne sopra di loro uno terrore grandissimo, e fuggirono e ascòserosi. | 7 And I, Daniel, alone saw the vision, for the men who were with me did not see the vision, but a great trembling fell upon them, and they fled to hide themselves. |
| 8 E io, rimasto solo, vidi questa visione grande; e non rimase in me fortezza, e il color mio s' immutò in me, e persi le forze corporali, sì che in me non rimase virtù alcuna. | 8 So I was left alone and saw this great vision, and no strength was left in me; my radiant appearance was fearfully changed, and I retained no strength. |
| 9 E udi' la voce del suo parlare, e udendo stava isteso sopra la mia faccia, con lo volto mio. sopra la terra. | 9 Then I heard the sound of his words; and when I heard the sound of his words, I fell on my face in a deep sleep with my face to the ground. |
| 10 Ed ecco, una mano mi toccoe, e dirizzommi sopra le mie ginocchia, e sopra le dita delle mani mie, (e stava come sta li animali bruti in quattro piedi). | 10 And behold, a hand touched me and set me trembling on my hands and knees. |
| 11 E dissemi: Daniele, uomo delli (amati e) desiderati, intendi le parole le quali io parlo a te e sta nel tuo grado; ora io son mandato a te. E avendomi detto queste parole, istetti tutto tremebondo. | 11 And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly beloved, give heed to the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you." While he was speaking this word to me, I stood up trembling. |
| 12 E dissemi: non aver paura, Daniele; però che dal primo giorno che tu ponesti il tuo cuore ad intendere che tu ti volevi affliggere nel conspetto del tuo Iddio, sono state esaudite le tue parole, e io son venuto per cagione delle tue parole. | 12 Then he said to me, "Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your mind to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. |
| 13 Ma il principe del regno de' Persi mi fece resistenza venti e uno dì; ed ecco Micael, uno delli principi, lo primo, venne in mio adiutorio, e io rimasi ivi appo il re de' Persi. | 13 The prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me twenty-one days; but Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, so I left him there with the prince of the kingdom of Persia |
| 14 Ma io son venuto per ammaestrarti quelle cose le quali debbono venire allo popolo tuo negli ultimi di; però che la visione si prolunga anco in molti dì. | 14 and came to make you understand what is to befall your people in the latter days. For the vision is for days yet to come." |
| 15 E parlandomi queste parole, chinai il volto mio in terra, e istetti cheto. | 15 When he had spoken to me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and was dumb. |
| 16 Ed ecco uno, quasi simile al figliuolo dell' uomo, toccò le mie labbra; e aprendo la mia bocca parlai, e dissi a colui lo quale stava dinanzi a me Signore mio, nella tua visione sono disciolte. tutte le mie giunture, e non mi rimase forze. | 16 And behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke. I said to him who stood before me, "O my lord, by reason of the vision pains have come upon me, and I retain no strength. |
| 17 E a che modo potrà lo servo del mio Signore parlare col mio Signore? però che non m'è rimasto alcuna virtù, e anco il mio anelito m'è otturato, ( ch' io non posso fiatare). | 17 How can my lord's servant talk with my lord? For now no strength remains in me, and no breath is left in me." |
| 18 Un' altra fiata dunque mi toccò quello che mi apparve quasi in similitudine di uomo, e confortommi. | 18 Again one having the appearance of a man touched me and strengthened me. |
| 19 E dissemi: non temere, uomo desiderato (e amato da molti) e io li dissi parla, Signore mio, però che tu mi hai confortato. | 19 And he said, "O man greatly beloved, fear not, peace be with you; be strong and of good courage." And when he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me." |
| 20 E disse: or sai tu per che io son venuto a te? e ora io tornerò per combattere contro allo principe de' Persi; e quando io usciva, apparve il principe delli Greci, lo qual venia. | 20 Then he said, "Do you know why I have come to you? But now I will return to fight against the prince of Persia; and when I am through with him, lo, the prince of Greece will come. |
| 21 Nientedimeno io ti annuncerò quello ch' è espresso nella scrittura della verità; e in tutte queste cose niuno è mio adiutore, salvo che Micael vostro principe. | 21 But I will tell you what is inscribed in the book of truth: there is none who contends by my side against these except Michael, your prince. |
