1 But Jesus continued on to the Mount of Olives.	1 Jésus était reparti vers le mont des Oliviers.
2 And early in the morning, he went again to the temple; and all the people came to him. And sitting down, he taught them.	2 Dès le matin à la première heure il était de nouveau au Temple; tout le peuple venait à lui, et lui s’asseyait pour les enseigner.
3 Now the scribes and Pharisees brought forward a woman caught in adultery, and they stood her in front of them.	3 C’est alors que les maîtres de la Loi et les Pharisiens lui amènent une femme surprise en adultère. Ils la placent au centre,
4 And they said to him: “Teacher, this woman was just now caught in adultery.	4 puis ils lui demandent: "Maître, cette femme est une adultère et elle a été prise sur le fait.
5 And in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such a one. Therefore, what do you say?”	5 Dans la Loi, Moïse nous a ordonné de lapider les femmes qui sont dans ce cas, mais toi, qu’est-ce que tu dis?”
6 But they were saying this to test him, so that they might be able to accuse him. Then Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the earth.	6 Ils parlaient de cette façon pour le mettre à l’épreuve, car ils cherchaient un motif pour l’accuser. Mais Jésus se pencha et se mit à écrire sur le sol avec son doigt.
7 And then, when they persevered in questioning him, he stood upright and said to them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone at her.”	7 Comme ils insistaient avec leurs questions, Jésus se redressa et leur dit: "Que celui d’entre vous qui n’a pas de péché lui jette la pierre le premier.”
8 And bending down again, he wrote on the earth.	8 Et de nouveau il se pencha et se mit à écrire sur le sol.
9 But upon hearing this, they went away, one by one, beginning with the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, with the woman standing in front of him.	9 Après une telle réponse, ils commencèrent à s’en aller l’un après l’autre en commençant par les plus âgés, et Jésus se retrouva seul avec la femme au centre.
10 Then Jesus, raising himself up, said to her: “Woman, where are those who accused you? Has no one condemned you?”	10 Alors il se redressa et lui dit: "Femme, où sont-ils? Personne ne t’a condamnée?”
11 And she said, “No one, Lord.” Then Jesus said: “Neither will I condemn you. Go, and now do not choose to sin anymore.”	11 Elle répondit: "Personne, vous voyez.” Et Jésus lui dit: "Moi non plus, je ne te condamne pas; va et ne pèche plus.”
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me does not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”	12 Jésus parla de nouveau à la foule, il leur dit: "Je suis la lumière du monde. Celui qui me suit ne marchera pas dans les ténèbres: il aura la lumière qui est vie.”
13 And so the Pharisees said to him, “You offer testimony about yourself; your testimony is not true.”	13 Alors les Pharisiens lui dirent: "Si tu te recommandes toi-même, ta recommandation ne vaut rien.”
14 Jesus responded and said to them: “Even though I offer testimony about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going.	14 Jésus leur répondit: "Même si c’est moi qui me recommande, ma recommandation vaut, parce que je sais d’où je suis venu et où je vais. C’est vous qui ne savez pas d’où je viens et où je vais.
15 You judge according to the flesh. I do not judge anyone.	15 Vous jugez, et c’est la chair qui parle: moi je ne juge personne.
16 And when I do judge, my judgment is true. For I am not alone, but it is I and he who sent me: the Father.	16 Mais si je juge, mon jugement vaut, parce que je ne suis pas seul: il y a moi et le Père qui m’a envoyé.
17 And it is written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.	17 Regardez votre Loi: il est écrit que le témoignage vaut s’il y a deux personnes.
18 I am one who offers testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me offers testimony about me.”	18 Je donne un témoignage sur moi-même, et le Père qui m’a envoyé me donne aussi son témoignage.”
19 Therefore, they said to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered: “You know neither me, nor my Father. If you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.”	19 Alors ils lui dirent: "Où est ton Père?” Jésus répondit: "Vous ne connaissez ni moi, ni mon Père. Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père.”
20 Jesus spoke these words at the treasury, while teaching in the temple. And no one apprehended him, because his hour had not yet come.	20 Jésus fit cette déclaration dans la salle des offrandes, au temps où il enseignait dans le Temple; personne ne l’arrêta, car son heure n’était pas encore venue.
21 Therefore, Jesus again spoke to them: “I am going, and you shall seek me. And you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you are not able to go.”	21 De nouveau Jésus leur dit: "Je m’en vais et vous me chercherez, et comme vous ne pouvez venir où je suis, vous mourrez dans votre état de péché.”
22 And so the Jews said, “Is he going to kill himself, for he said: ‘Where I am going, you are not able to go?’ ”	22 Les Juifs donc se demandaient: "Il dit que nous ne pouvons pas aller là où il va: est-ce que par hasard il pense à se tuer?”
23 And he said to them: “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.	23 Mais Jésus leur dit: "Vous êtes d’en bas et je suis d’en haut. Vous êtes de ce monde, et moi je ne suis pas de ce monde.
24 Therefore, I said to you, that you will die in your sins. For if you will not believe that I am, you will die in your sin.”	24 Je vous ai donc dit que vous mourrez avec vos péchés: oui, si vous ne croyez pas que Je Suis, vous mourrez avec vos péchés.”
25 And so they said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them: “The Beginning, who is also speaking to you.	25 Alors ils lui demandèrent: "Mais tu es qui?” Jésus leur dit: "Exactement ce que je viens de vous dire.
26 I have much to say about you and to judge. But he who sent me is true. And what I have heard from him, this I speak within the world.”	26 J’ai beaucoup à dire et à condamner chez vous, et ce que je dis au monde, je l’ai appris auprès de celui qui m’envoie: lui est Vrai.”
27 And they did not realize that he was calling God his Father.	27 Les Juifs ne comprirent pas que Jésus parlait de son Père.
28 And so Jesus said to them: “When you will have lifted up the Son of man, then you shall realize that I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but just as the Father has taught me, so do I speak.	28 Alors Jésus leur dit: "Quand vous aurez élevé le Fils de l’Homme, vous saurez que Je Suis mais que je ne fais rien de moi-même: je dis ce que le Père m’a fait savoir.
29 And he who sent me is with me, and he has not abandoned me alone. For I always do what is pleasing to him.”	29 Celui qui m’a envoyé est avec moi; il ne me laisse jamais seul car je fais toujours ce qui lui est agréable.”
30 As he was speaking these things, many believed in him.	30 Voilà ce que Jésus disait, et beaucoup eurent foi en lui.
31 Therefore, Jesus said to those Jews who believed in him: “If you will abide in my word, you will truly be my disciples.	31 Jésus disait donc aux Juifs qui croyaient en lui: "Vous serez mes vrais disciples si vous persévérez dans ma parole;
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”	32 alors vous connaîtrez la vérité et la vérité vous rendra libres.”
33 They answered him: “We are the offspring of Abraham, and we have never been a slave to anyone. How can you say, ‘You shall be set free?’ ”	33 Ils lui répondirent: "Nous sommes la race d’Abraham et nous n’avons jamais été esclaves de personne; pourquoi nous dis-tu: Vous serez libres?”
34 Jesus answered them: “Amen, amen, I say to you, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin.	34 Jésus leur dit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: celui qui vit dans le péché est esclave du péché.
35 Now the slave does not abide in the house for eternity. Yet the Son does abide in eternity.	35 Mais l’esclave ne reste pas toujours dans la maison. Celui qui est à demeure, c’est le fils.
36 Therefore, if the Son has set you free, then you will truly be free.	36 Donc si celui qui vous libère est le Fils, votre liberté est réelle.
37 I know that you are sons of Abraham. But you are seeking to kill me, because my word has not taken hold in you.	37 Je sais bien que vous êtes la race d’Abraham. Cependant ma doctrine ne vous touche pas et c’est pourquoi vous voulez me tuer.
38 I speak what I have seen with my Father. And you do what you have seen with your father.”	38 Je dis ce que j’ai vu chez le Père, et vous faites ce que vous avez appris de votre père.”
39 They responded and said to him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them: “If you are the sons of Abraham, then do the works of Abraham.	39 Les Juifs alors lui coupèrent la parole: "Notre père est Abraham!” Jésus leur dit: "Si vous étiez les enfants d’Abraham, vous agiriez comme Abraham a fait.
40 But now you are seeking to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God. This is not what Abraham did.	40 Mais voilà quelqu’un qui vous dit la vérité, une vérité que j’ai apprise de Dieu, et vous voulez me tuer. Ce n’est pas la manière d’Abraham;
41 You do the works of your father.” Therefore, they said to him: “We were not born out of fornication. We have one father: God.”	41 vous agissez comme a fait votre père.” Alors ils lui dirent: "Nous ne sommes pas nés hors mariage, nous n’avons qu’un Père, Dieu.”
42 Then Jesus said to them: “If God were your father, certainly you would love me. For I proceeded and came from God. For I did not come from myself, but he sent me.	42 Jésus leur dit: "Si Dieu était votre Père, vous m’aimeriez, puisque je suis sorti de Dieu pour venir ici. C’est lui qui m’a envoyé et je ne suis pas venu de moi-même.
43 Why do you not recognize my speech? It is because you are not able to hear my word.	43 Pourquoi ne comprenez-vous pas mon langage? Parce que vous ne pouvez pas recevoir mon message.
44 You are of your father, the devil. And you will carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning. And he did not stand in the truth, because the truth is not in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks it from his own self. For he is a liar, and the father of lies.	44 Vous appartenez à votre père, le diable, et vous cherchez à satisfaire les désirs de votre père. Depuis le commencement il a été homicide: c’est que la vérité n’était pas en lui et il ne s’est pas maintenu dans la vérité. Il est menteur et père du mensonge, et le mensonge lui vient tout naturellement.
45 But if I speak the truth, you do not believe me.	45 “Voilà bien pourquoi vous ne me croyez pas quand je vous dis la vérité.
46 Which of you can convict me of sin? If I speak the truth to you, why do you not believe me?	46 Qui d’entre vous me montrera que je suis en tort? Et si je vous dis la vérité, pourquoi ne me croyez-vous pas?
47 Whoever is of God, hears the words of God. For this reason, you do not hear them: because you are not of God.”	47 Celui qui est de Dieu écoute les paroles de Dieu; si vous ne m’écoutez pas, c’est que vous n’êtes pas de Dieu.”
48 Therefore, the Jews responded and said to him, “Are we not correct in saying that you are a Samaritan, and that you have a demon?”	48 Aussitôt les Juifs lui dirent: "N’avions-nous pas raison? Tu es un Samaritain, ou tu as un démon.”
49 Jesus responded: “I do not have a demon. But I honor my Father, and you have dishonored me.	49 Jésus leur répondit: "Je n’ai pas de démon, simplement vous m’insultez parce que j’honore mon Père.
50 But I am not seeking my own glory. There is One who seeks and judges.	50 Je n’ai pas besoin de défendre mon honneur: un autre s’en charge et fera justice.
51 Amen, amen, I say to you, if anyone will have kept my word, he will not see death for eternity.”	51 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne connaîtra jamais la mort.”
52 Therefore, the Jews said: “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets; and yet you say, ‘If anyone will have kept my word, he shall not taste death for eternity.’	52 Les Juifs lui dirent: "Maintenant nous savons que tu as un démon. Abraham est mort, et les prophètes également, et toi tu dis: Si quelqu’un garde ma parole, il ne connaîtra jamais la mort?
53 Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. So who do you make yourself to be?”	53 Tu es donc plus grand que notre père Abraham qui est mort, tout comme les prophètes sont morts? Pour qui te prends-tu?”
54 Jesus responded: “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me. And you say about him that he is your God.	54 Jésus alors déclara: "Si je fais mon éloge, cet éloge ne vaut rien. Mais c’est mon Père qui me glorifie, celui que vous appelez: notre Dieu.
55 And yet you have not known him. But I know him. And if I were to say that I do not know him, then I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.	55 Vous ne le connaissez pas, alors que moi je le connais. Et si je disais que je ne le connais pas, je serais menteur comme vous. Car moi je le connais, et je garde sa parole.
56 Abraham, your father, rejoiced that he might see my day; he saw it and was glad.”	56 Quant à Abraham, votre père, toute sa joie était d’attendre ma venue. Il l’a vue et il s’est réjoui.”
57 And so the Jews said to him, “You have not yet reached fifty years, and you have seen Abraham?”	57 Les Juifs alors lui dirent: "Tu as vu Abraham, et cela ne fait pas cinquante ans!”
58 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, before Abraham was made, I am.”	58 Jésus leur répondit: "En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis: avant qu’Abraham ne soit venu, moi Je Suis.”
59 Therefore, they took up stones to cast at him. But Jesus hid himself, and he departed from the temple.	59 Sur ce, ils cherchèrent des pierres pour les lui jeter, mais Jésus se cacha et sortit du Temple.
