Daniel 11

1 on whom I rely to give me support and to reinforce me.	1 Io, nel primo anno di Dario il Medo «che sta a sostegno e a difesa per me».
2 And now I shal tell you the truth about these things. 'Three more kings are going to rise in Persia; afourth wil come and be richer than al the others, and when, thanks to his wealth, he has grown powerful, he wilmake war on al the kingdoms of Greece.	2 «Ora ti indicherò la verità. Ecco tre re sorgono ancora per la Persia; e il quarto si arricchirà molto più di tutti e, potente per la sua ricchezza, aizzerà tutto contro la Grecia.
3 A mighty king wil rise and govern a vast empire and do whatever he pleases.	3 Sorgerà un re forte, dominerà con grande potenza e agirà secondo il suo capriccio.
4 But once he has come to power, his empire wil be broken up and parcelled out to the four winds ofheaven, though not to his descendants: it wil not be ruled as he ruled it, for his sovereignty will be uprooted andwil pass to others than his own descendants.	4 Ma, sul nascere, il suo regno si spezzerà e sarà smembrato nelle quattro direzioni del cielo, ma non ai suoi discendenti e non con la potenza con la quale aveva dominato poiché il suo regno sarà spezzato e passerà ad altri, esclusi questi.
5 'The king of the south wil grow powerful, but one of his princes wil grow more powerful stil , with anempire greater than his own.	5 Il re del sud sarà forte, ma uno dei suoi capi sarà più forte di lui e dominerà. Un grande dominio sarà il suo impero.
6 Some years later, these will conclude a treaty and, to ratify the agreement, the daughter of the king ofthe south wil go to the king of the north. Her arm will not, however, retain its strength, nor his posterity endure:she wil be handed over, she, her escorts and her child, and he who has had authority over her. In due time	6 Al termine di alcuni anni si uniranno; la figlia del re del sud andrà al re dal nord per concludere la pace, ma essa non conserverà la potenza del braccio; egli non resisterà né la sua stirpe. 7 a sprig from her roots wil rise in his place, wil march on the defences, force the stronghold of the kingof the north, and succeed in overcoming them.	7 sorgerà al suo posto uno da un rampollo delle sue radici, muoverà contro l’esercito, marcerà contro il baluardo del re del nord, agirà contro di essi e la spunterà.
8 He wil even carry off al their gods, their statues, their precious gold and silver vessels as booty toEgypt. For some years he wil leave the king of the north in peace,	8 Trasporterà come bottino in Egitto perfino i loro dèi insieme con i loro idoli, con i loro vasi preziosi d’argento e d’oro, ma questi resisterà per alcuni anni al re del nord,
9 but the latter will invade the kingdom of the king of the south, then retire to his own country.	9 invaderà il regno del re del sud e ritornerà nel suo paese.
10 His sons wil next be on the march, mustering a host of powerful forces; and he wil advance, deploy,break through and march on the southern stronghold once again.	10 Suo figlio muoverà guerra, radunerà una moltitudine di grandi forze, marcerà decisamente, invaderà, attraverserà e di nuovo muoverà guerra fino al suo baluardo.
11 The king of the south wil fly into a rage and set out to give battle to the king of the north, who wilhave an immense army on his side, but this army wil be defeated by him.	11 Allora il re del sud si esaspererà, uscirà, lotterà contro di lui, contro il re del nord, e raccoglierà una grande moltitudine, ma la moltitudine. sarà data in potere dell’altro.
12 The army wil be annihilated; he wil be triumphant; he wil overthrow tens of thousands; yet he wilhave no enduring strength.	12 La moltitudine sarà catturata: il cuore di lui si inorgoglirà e farà perire decine di migliaia e non sarà forte.
13 The king of the north wil come back, having recruited an even larger army than before, and final y,after some years, he wil advance a second time with a great army and plentiful supplies.	13 Di nuovo il re del nord raccoglierà una moltitudine più ingente della prima e dopo alcuni anni muoverà decisamente con un grande esercito e grande salmeria.
14 At that time, many wil take up arms against the king of the south, and the more violent of your ownpeople wil rebel in the hope of realising the vision; but they will fail.	14 In quel tempo molti si solleveranno contro il re del sud e alcuni violenti insorgeranno per realizzare una visione, ma cadranno.
15 The king of the north wil then come and throw up siege-works to capture a strongly fortified city. The forces of the south wil not stand their ground; the pick of the people will not be strong enough to resist.	15 Allora verrà il re del nord, getterà un terrapieno ed espugnerà una città munitissima: le forze del sud non resisteranno e nemmeno le truppe scelte, né ci sarà forza di resistenza.
16 The invader wil do as he pleases, no one wil be able to resist him: he will take his stand in the Landof Splendour, destruction in his hands.	16 Il suo avversario agirà a suo piacere né ci sarà chi possa resistere innanzi a lui: si installerà nella terra della magnificenza e la distruzione sarà nella sua mano.
17 He wil set about conquering his entire kingdom, but wil then make a treaty with him and, tooverthrow the kingdom, give him a woman's hand; but this wil not last or be to his advantage.	17 Dirigerà le mire per venire in possesso di tutto il regno di a concluderà alleanza con lui e gli darà una figlia, alla malora! ma non avrà consistenza e non avrà successo.
18 He wil next turn to the coasts and islands and conquer many of them, but a magistrate wil put a stopto his outrages in such a way that he wil be unable to repay outrage for outrage.	18 Volgerà lo sguardo verso le isole e si impadronirà di molte, ma un comandante fermerà la sua arroganza e la sua arroganza si volgerà a suo sfavore.
19 'He wil then turn on the strongholds of his own country, but wil stumble, fall, and never be seenagain.	19 Volgerà le mire verso le fortezze della sua terra, incespicherà, cadrà e scomparirà.
20 In his place there wil rise a man who wil send an extortioner to despoil the royal splendour; in a fewdays he wil be shattered, though neither publicly nor in battle.	20 Sorgerà al suo posto chi sguinzaglierà un gabelliere attraverso la perla del regno, ma in pochi giorni sarà stroncato, senza spedizione e senza battaglia.
21 'In his place wil rise a wretch: royal honours wil not be given to him, but rather he wil insinuatehimself into them at his pleasure and wil gain possession of the kingdom by intrigue.	21 Gli succederà un miserabile cui non verrà dato nemmeno il regno e che si intrometterà con sorpresa e si impadronirà del regno con inganni.
22 Armies will be utterly routed and crushed by him, the Prince of the covenant too.	22 Forze armate saranno del tutto eliminate e sarà stroncato perfino un principe dell’alleanza.
23 Through his alliances he wil act treacherously and, despite the smal ness of his fol owing, grow everstronger.	23 Per le sue alleanze agirà con scaltrezza, trionferà e sarà forte in una piccola nazione.
24 At his pleasure, he wil invade rich provinces, acting as his fathers or his fathers' fathers never acted,distributing among them plunder, spoil and wealth, plotting his stratagems against the fortresses -- for a time.	24 Di sorpresa invaderà le pingui contrade di una provincia e farà ciò che non avevano osato i suoi padri e i padri dei suoi padri: preda, bottino e ricchezza prodigherà loro e tramerà i suoi piani contro le fortezze, ma fino a un tempo.
25 'He wil summon up his might and courage against the king of the south with a great army. 26 Those who shared his food wil ruin him; his army wil be swept away, many wil fall in the slaughter.	26 I suoi commensali lo abbatteranno, il suo esercito sarà spazzato via e molti cadranno trafitti.
27 'The two kings, seated at one table, hearts bent on evil, wil tell their lies; but they will not have theirway, for the appointed time is stil to come.	27 Quei due re avranno il cuore rivolto al male e a tavola si scambieranno menzogne, ma nulla riuscirà perché li attende la fine, a tempo determinato.
28 Then the wretch wil return greatly enriched to his own country, his heart set against the holycovenant; he wil take action and then return to his own country.	28 Rientrerà nel suo paese carico di grande ricchezza e con il cuore contro la santa alleanza; agirà e ritornerà al suo paese.
29 In due time, he will make his way southwards again, but this time the outcome wil not be as before.	29 Nel momento stabilito muoverà di nuovo contro il sud, ma la seconda volta non sarà come la prima.
30 The ships of the Kittim wil oppose him, and he wil be worsted. He wil retire and take furious actionagainst the holy covenant and, as before, wil favour those who forsake that holy covenant.	30 Si schiereranno contro di lui le navi dei Chittim: egli si scoraggerà, farà marcia indietro e macchinerà contro coloro che disertano la santa alleanza.
31 'Forces of his wil come and profane the Citadel-Sanctuary; they will abolish the perpetual sacrificeand instal the appal ing abomination there.	31 Allora si leveranno al suo ordine le forze, profaneranno il santuario, la fortezza, aboliranno il sacrificio continuo e stabiliranno l’orrore del devastatore.
32 Those who break the covenant he wil seduce by his blandishments, but the people who know theirGod will stand firm and take action.	32 Con perfidie farà apostatare coloro che avevano attentato all’alleanza, ma la moltitudine di coloro che riconoscono il loro Dio perseverà e prenderà iniziative.
33 Those of the people who are wise leaders wil instruct many; for some days, however, they wilstumble from sword and flame, captivity and pil age.	33 I saggi del popolo istruiranno molti e cadranno per ferro e per fuoco, per deportazione e saccheggio durante molti giorni.
34 And thus stumbling, little help wil they receive, though many will be scheming in their support.	34 Mentre soccomberanno, riceveranno un piccolo aiuto e molti si uniranno a loro con perfidia.
35 Of the wise leaders some wil stumble, and so a number of them wil be purged, purified and madeclean -- until the time of the End, for the appointed time is stil to come.	35 Tra i saggi alcuni cadranno perché avvenga tra di essi la purificazione, il raffinamento e la scelta fino al tempo della fine perché manca ancora qualcosa al tempo determinato.
36 'The king wil do as he pleases, growing more and more arrogant, considering himself greater thanal the gods; he will utter incredible blasphemies against the God of gods, and he wil thrive until the wrathreaches bursting point; for what has been decreed wil certainly be fulfil ed.	36 Il re agirà a suo capriccio, si inorgoglirà, si considererà al di sopra di ogni dio e contro il dio degli dèi pronuncerà insolenze e avrà successo fino al compimento della collera, poiché lo sterminio deciso sarà realizzato.
37 Heedless of his fathers' gods, heedless of the god whom women love, heedless of any godwhatever, he wil consider himself greatest of al .	37 Non si preoccuperà del dio dei suoi padri né del prediletto delle donne né si preoccuperà di qualsiasi divinità: si riterrà più grande di tutti.
38 Instead of them, he wil honour the god of fortresses, will honour a god unknown to his ancestorswith gold and silver, precious stones and valuable presents.	38 Invece glorificherà il dio delle fortezze e onorerà un dio ignoto ai suoi padri con oro, argento e pietre preziose e gioielli.
39 He wil use the people of an alien god to defend the fortresses; he will confer great honours on thosewhom he acknowledges, by giving them wide authority and by parcel ing the country out for rent.	39 Agirà contro bastioni muniti con l’aiuto di un dio straniero; ricolmerà di onore chi riconoscerà, li lascerà dominare su molti e distribuirà terre in ricompensa.
40 'When the time comes for the End, the king of the south will try conclusions with him; but the king ofthe north wil come storming down on him with chariots, cavalry, and a large fleet. He wil invade countries,overrun them and drive on.	40 Verso il tempo della fine il re del sud si urterà con lui e il re del nord si scatenerà contro di lui con carri, cavalieri e molte navi, giungerà nel paese, lo invaderà e lo attraverserà.
41 He wil invade the Land of Splendour, and many wil fal ; but Edom, Moab, and what remains of thesons of Ammon wil escape him.	41 Verrà nella terra della magnificenza e cadranno decine di migliaia, ma gli sfuggiranno di mano questi: Edom e Moab e la parte principale degli Ammoniti.
42 'He wil reach out to attack countries: Egypt will not escape him.	42 Stenderà la mano sul paese e la terra d’Egitto non sfuggirà;
43 The gold and silver treasures and al the valuables of Egypt wil lie in his power. Libyans andCushites wil be at his feet:	43 si impadronirà dei tesori d’oro e d’argento e di tutte le cose preziose d’Egitto. Libi e Chushiti saranno al suo seguito.
44 but reports coming from the East and the north wil worry him, and in great fury he wil set out to bringruin and complete destruction to many.	44 Lo sconvolgeranno notizie dall’oriente e dal nord ed evaderà in grande fretta distruggendo e annientando molti.
45 He wil pitch the tents of his royal headquarters between the sea and the mountains of the HolySplendour. Yet he wil come to his end -- there wil be no help for him.'	45 Pianterà le tende della sua corte tra il mare e il monte della santa magnificenza e giungerà alla sua fine e non ci sarà nessuno che lo aiuti.
