Corinthians 6

NEW AMERICAN BIBLERevised Standard Version Catholic Edition
How can any one of you with a case against another dare to bring it to the unjust for judgment instead of to the holy ones?1 When one of you has a grievance against a brother, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints?
Do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world? If the world is to be judged by you, are you unqualified for the lowest law courts?2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?
Do you not know that we will judge angels? Then why not everyday matters?3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels? How much more, matters pertaining to this life!
If, therefore, you have courts for everyday matters, do you seat as judges people of no standing in the church?4 If then you have such cases, why do you lay them before those who are least esteemed by the church?
I say this to shame you. Can it be that there is not one among you wise enough to be able to settle a case between brothers?5 I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no man among you wise enough to decide between members of the brotherhood,
But rather brother goes to court against brother, and that before unbelievers?6 but brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers?
Now indeed (then) it is, in any case, a failure on your part that you have lawsuits against one another. Why not rather put up with injustice? Why not rather let yourselves be cheated?7 To have lawsuits at all with one another is defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded?
Instead, you inflict injustice and cheat, and this to brothers.8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud, and that even your own brethren.
Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor sodomites9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,
nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.
That is what some of you used to be; but now you have had yourselves washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
"Everything is lawful for me," but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is lawful for me," but I will not let myself be dominated by anything.12 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything.
"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food," but God will do away with both the one and the other. The body, however, is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body;13 "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food"--and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power.14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take Christ's members and make them the members of a prostitute? Of course not!15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!
(Or) do you not know that anyone who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For "the two," it says, "will become one flesh."16 Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one."
But whoever is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.17 But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
Avoid immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the immoral person sins against his own body.18 Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own;
For you have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.20 you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
