| 1 μη ουκ ισχυει η χειρ κυριου του σωσαι η εβαρυνεν το ους αυτου του μη εισακουσαι | 1 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear; |
| 2 αλλα τα αμαρτηματα υμων διιστωσιν ανα μεσον υμων και του θεου και δια τας αμαρτιας υμων απεστρεψεν το προσωπον αυτου αφ' υμων του μη ελεησαι | 2 but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you so that he does not hear. |
| 3 αι γαρ χειρες υμων μεμολυμμεναι αιματι και οι δακτυλοι υμων εν αμαρτιαις τα δε χειλη υμων ελαλησεν ανομιαν και η γλωσσα υμων αδικιαν μελετα | 3 For your hands are defiled with blood and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness. |
| 4 ουδεις λαλει δικαια ουδε εστιν κρισις αληθινη πεποιθασιν επι ματαιοις και λαλουσιν κενα οτι κυουσιν πονον και τικτουσιν ανομιαν | 4 No one enters suit justly, no one goes to law honestly; they rely on empty pleas, they speak lies, they conceive mischief and bring forth iniquity. |
| 5 ωα ασπιδων ερρηξαν και ιστον αραχνης υφαινουσιν και ο μελλων των ωων αυτων φαγειν συντριψας ουριον ευρεν και εν αυτω βασιλισκος | 5 They hatch adders' eggs, they weave the spider's web; he who eats their eggs dies, and from one which is crushed a viper is hatched. |
| 6 ο ιστος αυτων ουκ εσται εις ιματιον ουδε μη περιβαλωνται απο των εργων αυτων τα γαρ εργα αυτων εργα ανομιας | 6 Their webs will not serve as clothing; men will not cover themselves with what they make. Their works are works of iniquity, and deeds of violence are in their hands. |
| 7 οι δε ποδες αυτων επι πονηριαν τρεχουσιν ταχινοι εκχεαι αιμα και οι διαλογισμοι αυτων διαλογισμοι αφρονων συντριμμα και ταλαιπωρια εν ταις οδοις αυτων | 7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity, desolation and destruction are in their highways. |
| 8 και οδον ειρηνης ουκ οιδασιν και ουκ εστιν κρισις εν ταις οδοις αυτων αι γαρ τριβοι αυτων διεστραμμεναι ας διοδευουσιν και ουκ οιδασιν ειρηνην | 8 The way of peace they know not, and there is no justice in their paths; they have made their roads crooked, no one who goes in them knows peace. |
| 9 δια τουτο απεστη η κρισις απ' αυτων και ου μη καταλαβη αυτους δικαιοσυνη υπομειναντων αυτων φως εγενετο αυτοις σκοτος μειναντες αυγην εν αωρια περιεπατησαν | 9 Therefore justice is far from us, and righteousness does not overtake us; we look for light, and behold, darkness, and for brightness, but we walk in gloom. |
| 10 ψηλαφησουσιν ως τυφλοι τοιχον και ως ουχ υπαρχοντων οφθαλμων ψηλαφησουσιν και πεσουνται εν μεσημβρια ως εν μεσονυκτιω ως αποθνησκοντες στεναξουσιν | 10 We grope for the wall like the blind, we grope like those who have no eyes; we stumble at noon as in the twilight, among those in full vigor we are like dead men. |
| 11 ως αρκος και ως περιστερα αμα πορευσονται ανεμειναμεν κρισιν και ουκ εστιν σωτηρια μακραν αφεστηκεν αφ' ημων | 11 We all growl like bears, we moan and moan like doves; we look for justice, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far from us. |
| 12 πολλη γαρ ημων η ανομια εναντιον σου και αι αμαρτιαι ημων αντεστησαν ημιν αι γαρ ανομιαι ημων εν ημιν και τα αδικηματα ημων εγνωμεν | 12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us; for our transgressions are with us, and we know our iniquities: |
| 13 ησεβησαμεν και εψευσαμεθα και απεστημεν απο οπισθεν του θεου ημων ελαλησαμεν αδικα και ηπειθησαμεν εκυομεν και εμελετησαμεν απο καρδιας ημων λογους αδικους | 13 transgressing, and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart lying words. |
| 14 και απεστησαμεν οπισω την κρισιν και η δικαιοσυνη μακραν αφεστηκεν οτι καταναλωθη εν ταις οδοις αυτων η αληθεια και δι' ευθειας ουκ ηδυναντο διελθειν | 14 Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth has fallen in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter. |
| 15 και η αληθεια ηρται και μετεστησαν την διανοιαν του συνιεναι και ειδεν κυριος και ουκ ηρεσεν αυτω οτι ουκ ην κρισις | 15 Truth is lacking, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. |
| 16 και ειδεν και ουκ ην ανηρ και κατενοησεν και ουκ ην ο αντιλημψομενος και ημυνατο αυτους τω βραχιονι αυτου και τη ελεημοσυνη εστηρισατο | 16 He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intervene; then his own arm brought him victory, and his righteousness upheld him. |
| 17 και ενεδυσατο δικαιοσυνην ως θωρακα και περιεθετο περικεφαλαιαν σωτηριου επι της κεφαλης και περιεβαλετο ιματιον εκδικησεως και το περιβολαιον | 17 He put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and wrapped himself in fury as a mantle. |
| 18 ως ανταποδωσων ανταποδοσιν ονειδος τοις υπεναντιοις | 18 According to their deeds, so will he repay, wrath to his adversaries, requital to his enemies; to the coastlands he will render requital. |
| 19 και φοβηθησονται οι απο δυσμων το ονομα κυριου και οι απ' ανατολων ηλιου το ονομα το ενδοξον ηξει γαρ ως ποταμος βιαιος η οργη παρα κυριου ηξει μετα θυμου | 19 So they shall fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come like a rushing stream, which the wind of the LORD drives. |
| 20 και ηξει ενεκεν σιων ο ρυομενος και αποστρεψει ασεβειας απο ιακωβ | 20 "And he will come to Zion as Redeemer, to those in Jacob who turn from transgression, says the LORD. |
| 21 και αυτη αυτοις η παρ' εμου διαθηκη ειπεν κυριος το πνευμα το εμον ο εστιν επι σοι και τα ρηματα α εδωκα εις το στομα σου ου μη εκλιπη εκ του στοματος σου και εκ του στοματος του σπερματος σου ειπεν γαρ κυριος απο του νυν και εις τον αιωνα | 21 "And as for me, this is my covenant with them, says the LORD: my spirit which is upon you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your children, or out of the mouth of your children's children, says the LORD, from this time forth and for evermore." |
