1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:	1 Caríssimos, eis que esta é a segunda epístola que vos escrevo; em ambas procuro despertar em vós, com lembranças, uma sã inteligência.
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:	2 Lembrai-vos das coisas preditas pelos santos profetas e dos mandamentos do Senhor e Salvador, transmitidos pelos vossos Apóstolos,
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,	3 Sabei antes de tudo que nos últimos tempos virão zombadores cheios de zombarias, vivendo segundo as suas concupiscências.
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.	4 Dirão : "Onde está a promessa da sua vinda? Desde que os (nossos) pais morreram, tudo continua como no princípio da criação."
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:	5 Mas isto é porque eles ignoram voluntàriamente que antigamente existiram os céus e uma terra, que a palavra de Deus fez surgir da água e pela água,
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:	6 e que por estas mesmas causas o mundo de então pereceu submergido na água.
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.	7 Mas os céus e a terra, que agora existem, são guardados pela mesma palavra e reservados para o fogo, no dia do juízo e da perdição dos homens impios.
8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.	8 Há porém, uma coisa, caríssimos, que não deveis ignorar: é que um dia, diante do Senhor, é como mil anos (diante dos homens), e mil anos (diante dos homens) como um dia (diante do Senhor).
9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.	9 Não retarda o Senhor a sua promessa, como alguns pensam, mas usa de paciência convosco, não querendo que nenhum pereça, mas que todos se convertam à penitência.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.	10 Todavia, como um ladrão, virá o dia do Senhor, no qual passarão os céus com grande estrondo, e os elementos com o calor se dissolverão e a terra como as obras que há nela será consumida.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,	11 Portanto, visto que todas estas coisas estão destinadas a ser desfeitas, quais não deveis ser em piedade e santidade de vida,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?	12 esperando e correndo ao encontro da vinda do dia de Deus, no qual os céus, ardendo, se desfarão, e os elementos, com o ardor do fogo, se hão-de fundir!
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.	13 Realmente esperamos, segundo a sua promessa, novos céus e uma nova terra, nos quais habite a justiça.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.	14 Portanto, caríssimos, esperando estas coisas, procurai com diligência ser encontrados por ele sem mancha e irrepreensíveis na paz (com Deus).
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;	15 Crede que a longanimidade de nosso Senhor é para vossa salvação, conforme também nosso irmão carissimo Paulo vos escreveu, segundo a sabedoria que lhe foi dada,
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.	16 como aliás faz em todas as suas cartas, em que fala disto, nas quais há alguns pontos difíceis de entender, que os indoutos e inconstantes (na fé) adulteram (como também as outras Escrituras) para sua própria perdição.
17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.	17 Vós, pois, caríssimos, estando prevenidos, acautelai-vos, para que não caiais da vossa firmeza, levados pelo erro destes insensatos,
18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.	18 mas crescei na graça e no conhecimento do nosso Senhor e Salvador Jesus Cristo. A ele (seja dada) glória, agora e no dia da eternidade.
