| 1 On était dans la deuxième année du roi Darius, le premier jour du sixième mois; la parole de Yahvé fut adressée par le prophète Aggée à Zorobabel fils de Chéaltiel, gouverneur de Juda, et à Josué fils de Yosadak, le grand prêtre, pour qu’il leur dise: | 1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, |
| 2 “Voici une parole de Yahvé Sabaot au sujet de ce que dit ce peuple, que ce n’est pas le moment de rebâtir le Temple de Yahvé.” | 2 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD." |
| 3 La parole de Yahvé fut donc adressée par l’intermédiaire du prophète en ces termes: | 3 Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, |
| 4 “Est-ce donc pour vous le moment d’habiter de bonnes maisons quand ce Temple est en ruines? | 4 "Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? |
| 5 Voici ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Voyez un peu ce que vous devez faire. | 5 Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. |
| 6 Vous avez semé beaucoup et vous avez peu récolté; vous avez mangé, mais vous aviez encore faim, vous avez bu, mais vous aviez encore soif, vous vous êtes habillés, mais vous n’étiez pas assez couverts. L’ouvrier a mis son salaire dans une bourse percée. | 6 You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to put them into a bag with holes. |
| 7 Voici donc ce que dit Yahvé Sabaot: Voyez un peu ce que vous devez faire; | 7 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. |
| 8 montez à la montagne, rapportez du bois et reconstruisez le Temple. Cela me fera grand plaisir et j’y ferai éclater ma gloire, dit Yahvé. | 8 Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may appear in my glory, says the LORD. |
| 9 Vous attendiez l’abondance et la récolte a été maigre: j’ai soufflé dessus. Pourquoi donc? - demande Yahvé Sabaot. C’est parce que mon Temple est en ruine alors que chacun court à sa maison. | 9 You have looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while you busy yourselves each with his own house. |
| 10 C’est pour cela que les cieux ont retenu la pluie et que la terre n’a pas donné sa récolte. | 10 Therefore the heavens above you have withheld the dew, and the earth has withheld its produce. |
| 11 J’ai appelé la sécheresse sur la terre et sur les montagnes, sur le blé, le vin nouveau et l’huile fraîche, et sur tout ce que produit la terre; sur les hommes et les animaux et sur tout le travail de vos mains.” | 11 And I have called for a drought upon the land and the hills, upon the grain, the new wine, the oil, upon what the ground brings forth, upon men and cattle, and upon all their labors." |
| 12 Zorobabel fils de Chéaltiel, Josué fils de Yosadak, le grand prêtre avec tout le reste du peuple entendirent la parole de Yahvé leur Dieu que leur adressait le prophète Aggée. Il parlait conformément à la mission qu’il avait reçue de Yahvé, leur Dieu, aussi le peuple fut-il rempli de la crainte de Yahvé. | 12 Then Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him; and the people feared before the LORD. |
| 13 Aggée, le messager de Yahvé, parla ainsi au peuple, selon la mission reçue de Yahvé: “Je suis avec vous, parole de Yahvé.” | 13 Then Haggai, the messenger of the LORD, spoke to the people with the LORD's message, "I am with you, says the LORD." |
| 14 Alors Yahvé amena Zorobabel fils de Chéaltiel, gouverneur de Juda, et Josué fils de Yosadak, le grand prêtre, à se décider avec tout le reste du peuple; ils arrivèrent et se mirent au travail dans le Temple de Yahvé Sabaot, leur Dieu. | 14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of She-alti-el, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the LORD of hosts, their God, |
