1 וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה וְזִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת־הָעָם לֵאמֹר שָׁמֹר אֶת־כָּל־הַמִּצְוָה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם הַיֹּום | 1 Moses and the elders of Israel gave the people this command: 'Keep al the commandments which Iam laying down for you today. |
2 וְהָיָה בַּיֹּום אֲשֶׁר תַּעַבְרוּ אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן אֶל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ נֹתֵן לָךְ וַהֲקֵמֹתָ לְךָ אֲבָנִים גְּדֹלֹות וְשַׂדְתָּ אֹתָם בַּשִּׂיד | 2 After you have crossed the Jordan into the country which Yahweh your God is giving you, you mustset up tal stones, coat them with lime |
3 וְכָתַבְתָּ עֲלֵיהֶן אֶת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵי הַתֹּורָה הַזֹּאת בְּעָבְרֶךָ לְמַעַן אֲשֶׁר תָּבֹא אֶל־הָאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר־יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ ׀ נֹתֵן לְךָ אֶרֶץ זָבַת חָלָב וּדְבַשׁ כַּאֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי־אֲבֹתֶיךָ לָךְ | 3 and on them write all the words of this Law, when you have crossed and entered the country whichYahweh your God is giving you, a country flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, God of your ancestors, haspromised you. |
4 וְהָיָה בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן תָּקִימוּ אֶת־הָאֲבָנִים הָאֵלֶּה אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוֶּה אֶתְכֶם הַיֹּום בְּהַר עֵיבָל וְשַׂדְתָּ אֹותָם בַּשִּׂיד | 4 'When you have crossed the Jordan, you must erect these stones on Mount Ebal, as I command youtoday, and coat them with lime. |
5 וּבָנִיתָ שָּׁם מִזְבֵּחַ לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ מִזְבַּח אֲבָנִים לֹא־תָנִיף עֲלֵיהֶם בַּרְזֶל | 5 There, for Yahweh your God, you must build an altar of stones, on which no iron has been used. |
6 אֲבָנִים שְׁלֵמֹות תִּבְנֶה אֶת־מִזְבַּח יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְהַעֲלִיתָ עָלָיו עֹולֹת לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ | 6 You must build the altar of Yahweh your God of rough stones, and on this altar you will present burntofferings to Yahweh your God, |
7 וְזָבַחְתָּ שְׁלָמִים וְאָכַלְתָּ שָּׁם וְשָׂמַחְתָּ לִפְנֵי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ | 7 and immolate communion sacrifices and eat them there, rejoicing in the presence of Yahweh yourGod. |
8 וְכָתַבְתָּ עַל־הָאֲבָנִים אֶת־כָּל־דִּבְרֵי הַתֹּורָה הַזֹּאת בַּאֵר הֵיטֵב׃ ס | 8 On these stones you must write al the words of this Law; cut them careful y.' |
9 וַיְדַבֵּר מֹשֶׁה וְהַכֹּהֲנִים הַלְוִיִּם אֶל כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר הַסְכֵּת ׀ וּשְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל הַיֹּום הַזֶּה נִהְיֵיתָ לְעָם לַיהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ | 9 Moses and the levitical priests then said to al Israel: 'Be silent, Israel, and listen. Today you havebecome a people for Yahweh your God. |
10 וְשָׁמַעְתָּ בְּקֹול יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְעָשִׂיתָ אֶת־מִצְוֹתָו וְאֶת־חֻקָּיו אֲשֶׁר אָנֹכִי מְצַוְּךָ הַיֹּום׃ ס | 10 You must listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and observe the commandments and laws which Iam laying down for you today.' |
11 וַיְצַו מֹשֶׁה אֶת־הָעָם בַּיֹּום הַהוּא לֵאמֹר | 11 That day Moses gave the people this order: |
12 אֵלֶּה יַעַמְדוּ לְבָרֵךְ אֶת־הָעָם עַל־הַר גְּרִזִים בְּעָבְרְכֶם אֶת־הַיַּרְדֵּן שִׁמְעֹון וְלֵוִי וִיהוּדָה וְיִשָּׂשכָר וְיֹוסֵף וּבִנְיָמִן | 12 'When you have crossed the Jordan, the fol owing wil stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people:Simeon and Levi, Judah and Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin. |
13 וְאֵלֶּה יַעַמְדוּ עַל־הַקְּלָלָה בְּהַר עֵיבָל רְאוּבֵן גָּד וְאָשֵׁר וּזְבוּלֻן דָּן וְנַפְתָּלִי | 13 And the fol owing wil stand on Mount Ebal for the curse: Reuben, Gad and Asher, Zebulun, Dan andNaphtali. |
14 וְעָנוּ הַלְוִיִּם וְאָמְרוּ אֶל־כָּל־אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל קֹול רָם׃ ס | 14 The Levites wil then speak, proclaiming loudly to al the Israelites: |
15 אָרוּר הָאִישׁ אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשֶׂה פֶסֶל וּמַסֵּכָה תֹּועֲבַת יְהוָה מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי חָרָשׁ וְשָׂם בַּסָּתֶר וְעָנוּ כָל־הָעָם וְאָמְרוּ אָמֵן׃ ס | 15 "Accursed be anyone who makes a carved or cast idol, a thing detestable to Yahweh, a workman'sartefact, and sets it up in secret." And the people are al to respond by saying, Amen. |
16 אָרוּר מַקְלֶה אָבִיו וְאִמֹּו וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 16 "Accursed be anyone who treats father or mother dishonourably." And the people must al say,Amen. |
17 אָרוּר מַסִּיג גְּבוּל רֵעֵהוּ וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 17 "Accursed be anyone who displaces a neighbour's boundary mark." And the people must al say,Amen. |
18 אָרוּר מַשְׁגֶּה עִוֵּר בַּדָּרֶךְ וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 18 "Accursed be anyone who leads the blind astray on the road." And the people must al say, Amen. |
19 אָרוּר מַטֶּה מִשְׁפַּט גֵּר־יָתֹום וְאַלְמָנָה וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 19 "Accursed be anyone who violates the rights of the foreigner, the orphan and the widow." And thepeople must al say, Amen. |
20 אָרוּר שֹׁכֵב עִם־אֵשֶׁת אָבִיו כִּי גִלָּה כְּנַף אָבִיו וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 20 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his father's wife and withdraws the skirt of hisfather's cloak from her." And the people must all say, Amen. |
21 אָרוּר שֹׁכֵב עִם־כָּל־בְּהֵמָה וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 21 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with any kind of animal." And the people must allsay, Amen. |
22 אָרוּר שֹׁכֵב עִם־אֲחֹתֹו בַּת־אָבִיו אֹו בַת־אִמֹּו וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 22 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his sister, the daughter of his father or of hismother." And the people must al say, Amen. |
23 אָרוּר שֹׁכֵב עִם־חֹתַנְתֹּו וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 23 "Accursed be anyone who has sexual intercourse with his mother-in-law." And the people must alsay, Amen. |
24 אָרוּר מַכֵּה רֵעֵהוּ בַּסָּתֶר וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 24 "Accursed be anyone who secretly strikes down his neighbour." And the people must al say, Amen. |
25 אָרוּר לֹקֵחַ שֹׁחַד לְהַכֹּות נֶפֶשׁ דָּם נָקִי וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ ס | 25 "Accursed be anyone who accepts a bribe to take an innocent life." And the people must al say,Amen. |
26 אָרוּר אֲשֶׁר לֹא־יָקִים אֶת־דִּבְרֵי הַתֹּורָה־הַזֹּאת לַעֲשֹׂות אֹותָם וְאָמַר כָּל־הָעָם אָמֵן׃ פ | 26 "Accursed be anyone who does not make the words of this Law effective by putting them intopractice." And the people must al say, Amen.' |
