SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 O sábio procura cuidadosamente a sabedoria de todos os antigos, e aplica-se ao estudo dos profetas.	1 How different the man who devotes himself to the study of the law of the Most High! He explores the wisdom of the men of old and occupies himself with the prophecies;
2 Guarda no coração as narrativas dos homens célebres, e penetra ao mesmo tempo nos mistérios das máximas.	2 He treasures the discourses of famous men, and goes to the heart of involved sayings;
3 Penetra nos segredos dos provérbios, e vive com o sentido oculto das parábolas.	3 He studies obscure parables, and is busied with the hidden meanings of the sages.
4 Exerce o seu cargo no meio dos poderosos, e comparece perante aqueles que governam.	4 He is in attendance on the great, and has entrance to the ruler.
5 Viaja pela terra de povos estrangeiros, para reconhecer o que há do bem e do mal entre os homens.	5 He travels among the peoples of foreign lands to learn what is good and evil among men.
6 Desde o alvorecer aplica o coração à vigília para se unir ao Senhor que o criou, e ora na presença do Altíssimo.	6 His care is to seek the LORD, his Maker, to petition the Most High, To open his lips in prayer, to ask pardon for his sins. Then, if it pleases the LORD Almighty, he will be filled with the spirit of understanding; He will pour forth his words of wisdom and in prayer give thanks to the LORD,
7 Abre sua boca para orar, e pede perdão de seus pecados,	7 Who will direct his knowledge and his counsel, as he meditates upon his mysteries.
8 pois se for da vontade do Senhor que é grande, ele o cumulará do espírito de inteligência.	8 He will show the wisdom of what he has learned and glory in the law of the LORD'S covenant.
9 Então ele espargirá como uma chuva palavras de sabedoria, e louvará o Senhor em sua oração.	9 Many will praise his understanding; his fame can never be effaced; Unfading will be his memory, through all generations his name will live;
10 O Senhor orientará seus conselhos e seus ensinamentos, e ele meditará nos mistérios (divinos).	10 Peoples will speak of his wisdom, and in assembly sing his praises.
11 Ensinará ele próprio o conhecimento de sua doutrina. Porá sua glória na lei da aliança do Senhor.	11 While he lives he is one out of a thousand, and when he dies his renown will not cease.
12 Muitos homens louvarão sua sabedoria: jamais cairá ela no esquecimento.	12 Once more I will set forth my theme to shine like the moon in its fullness!
13 A sua memória não desaparecerá; seu nome será repetido de geração em geração.	13 Listen, my faithful children: open up your petals, like roses planted near running waters;
14 As nações proclamarão sua sabedoria, a assembléia apregoará seu louvor.	14 Send up the sweet odor of incense, break forth in blossoms like the lily. Send up the sweet odor of your hymn of praise; bless the LORD for all he has done!
15 Enquanto viver, terá maior nome que mil outros, e, quando repousar, será feliz.	15 Proclaim the greatness of his name, loudly sing his praises, With music on the harp and all stringed instruments; sing out with joy as you proclaim:
16 Refletirei ainda para contá-lo, pois estou cheio de um entusiasmo	16 The works of God are all of them good; in its own time every need is supplied.
17 que diz: Ouvi-me, rebentos divinos, desabrochai como uma roseira plantada à beira das águas;	17 At his word the waters become still as in a flask; he had but to speak and the reservoirs were made.
18 como o Líbano, espargi suave aroma,	18 He has but to command and his will is done; nothing can limit his achievement.
19 dai flores como o lírio, exalai perfume e estendei graciosa folhagem. Cantai cânticos e bendizei o Senhor nas suas obras.	19 The works of all mankind are present to him; not a thing escapes his eye.
20 Dai ao seu nome magníficos elogios, glorificai-o com a voz de vossos lábios, com os cânticos de vossos lábios e a música das harpas. Direis assim à guisa de louvor:	20 His gaze spans all the ages; to him there is nothing unexpected.
21 Todas as obras do Senhor são excelentes;	21 No cause then to say: "What is the purpose of this?" Everything is chosen to satisfy a need.
22 à sua voz conteve-se a água amontoada, a uma palavra de sua boca as águas ajuntaram-se como em reservatórios.	22 His blessing overflows like the Nile; like the Euphrates it enriches the surface of the earth.
23 À sua ordem, fez-se calmaria, e a salvação que ele dá não será mesquinha.	23 Again, his wrath expels the nations and turns fertile land into a salt marsh.
24 São-lhe apresentadas as ações de todos os viventes, nada é oculto aos seus olhos.	24 For the virtuous his paths are level, to the haughty they are steep;
25 Seu olhar abrange de um século a outro: nada é maravilhoso para ele.	25 Good things for the good he provided from the beginning, but for the wicked good things and bad.
26 Não se deve dizer: O que é isso, o que é aquilo? Pois todas as coisas serão examinadas a seu tempo.	26 Chief of all needs for human life are water and fire, iron and salt, The heart of the wheat, milk and honey, the blood of the grape, and oil, and cloth;
27 A bênção dele é como um rio que transborda;	27 For the good all these are good, but for the wicked they turn out evil.
28 como o dilúvio inundou a terra inteira, assim a sua cólera será a sorte dos povos que não o procuram.	28 There are storm winds created to punish, which in their fury can dislodge mountains; When destruction must be, they hurl all their force and appease the anger of their Maker.
29 Assim como ele transformou as águas em aridez e ressecou a terra, e o seu comportamento é determinado pelo deles, assim, em sua ira, seu comportamento é motivo de queda para os pecadores.	29 In his treasury also, kept for the proper time, are fire and hail, famine, disease,
30 Assim como os bens, desde o princípio, foram criados para os bons, assim os bens e os males o foram para os maus.	30 Ravenous beasts, scorpions, vipers, and the avenging sword to exterminate the wicked;
31 As coisas mais necessárias à vida do homem são: a água, o fogo, o ferro, o sal, o leite, o pão da flor de farinha, o mel, a uva, o azeite e o vestuário:	31 In doing his bidding they rejoice, in their assignments they disobey not his command.
32 todas essas coisas são bens para os fiéis, mas tornam-se males para os ímpios e os pecadores.	32 So from the first I took my stand, and wrote down as my theme:
33 Há espíritos que foram criados para a vingança: aumentaram seus tormentos pelo seu furor.	33 The works of God are all of them good; every need when it comes he fills.
34 No tempo do extermínio manifestarão sua força, e apaziguarão a fúria daquele que os criou.	34 No cause then to say: "This is not as good as that"; for each shows its worth at the proper time.
35 Fogo, granizo, fome e morte, tudo isso foi criado para a vingança,	35 So now with full joy of heart proclaim and bless the name of the Holy One.
36 como também os dentes dos animais, os escorpiões, as serpentes, e a espada vingadora destinada ao extermínio dos ímpios.
37 Todas essas coisas se regozijam com as ordens do Senhor, e mantêm-se prontas sobre a terra para servir oportunamente, e, chegando o tempo, não omitirão uma só de suas palavras.
38 Por isso, desde o princípio estou firme em minhas idéias; refleti e as escrevi.
39 Todas as obras do Senhor são boas; ele põe cada coisa em prática quando chega o tempo.
40 Não há razão para dizer: Isto é pior do que aquilo, porque todas as coisas serão achadas boas a seu tempo.
41 E agora, de todo o coração e com a boca, cantai e bendizei o nome do Senhor!
